  1. moronic Melbourne fans are parking their brains and basic decency at the gate

Nowhere in society is provocation accepted as a defence except evidentally by the AFL. Brains and Decency in the form of fair punishment were put on hold by the AFL to achieve an amicable and expedient outcome in both the Selwood and Headland cases. How do we get the message to the AFL that this is as unaccpetable as some forms of sledging? Booing would be one way.

  2. Honestly, after watching this guy in the past 4 weeks i believe he is finally coming of age. He seems so confident with his use and disposal of the pill. Thoughts?

Only blemish was a half hearted effort against McManus(?) in the second just before the worst kick in league football kneed him in the head. Hopefully he is OK for next week.

  3. Um lets see...cause all he could hear all day was supporters booing him. He deserved to shut u all up and prove u all wrong.

Well it didn't work very well then did it?

Headland was booed because he shouldn't have been playing. Not his fault I know but who at the AFL would listen or care with the spin like they have put out this week.

The booing got decidley louder when he gestured to his tattoo. After complaining last week he turns the tattoo into part of his on-field antics! Unbelieveable! Just a complete contradiction to what he should have done. A grade moron.

  4. Our skill level and preparedness to run hard defensively are so far below AFL standard at the moment that it's actually quite funny at times.

Back to YM's original post if you realise that Fremantle had something like 30 more interchanges than us today then that is your ability to run. When it comes to legs it is not a question of skill or effort. If there is nothing there then there is nothing there

  5. If I were Adam Selwood and I was genuinely innocent of the games (I'm not suggesting, nor do I believe that he is), I'd want to sue too. His name is completely and utterly mud now.

Selwood should take action against those who called him a paedophile as it was a false and unwarranted conclusion. Unfortunately for him he has reaped what he sowed in so far as his name being tarnished and I think that relates to the fact that he made a sexual sledge not the context (whatever it was). He is simply the first player to be exposed for it.

  6. But having supported MFC for 38 years...........

The last game I went to was the Geelong - Melbourne final the year before last. After a heroic last few games to the season we made the finals and I went to that final and after that game I wanted those 3 hours of my life back. They were woeful.

I trust by support you mean you buy a membership. Do you live in Darwin?

I'm sure you can think of endeavours which have been a greater waste of time. And yes they (we) were woeful.

  7. I think we see the sort of supporter character you allude to on weekends like this where the supporter numbers drop away (besides the fact we are playing the worst supported interstate team). Some of my favourite footy going moments are when I have turned up after a run of losses or expected defeat and we have won or a new talent has debuted and played well or kicked their first goal. Those of little faith often miss these great moments.

Graz. You should send this post to the club. It may be a good tonic, then again it may make no difference at all. Getting desperate!!!

  8. It's worse in the popular footy chat rooms. The abuse in these forums beggars belief both of the participants and the correspondents.

You'd be forgiven for concluding Aussie rules inflicts nothing but desolation, division and bitterness. They can be miserable websites, written by miserable people, for miserable people to read.

I wouldn't disagree with that but it depends how your team is going doesn't it?

Forums such as this discuss current events and Selwood/Headland was a particularly unpleasant one. I proabably wasn't surprised how some people interpreted and extrapolated the events.

It is often said along the lines of.....If you don't want bad news, don't open the papers!

  9. Given the likelihood that a few more losses would see us unable to have anything but a minor part in September (if at all) I hope someone at the club can bite the bullet on getting Sylvia and Moloney rested or even operated on if required and they aren't just kept going in the hope we can squeeze a handful of games out of each.

That would also give the inexperienced players more game time.

Which round will we put the cue in the rack?

  10. What is an appropriate topic then? Mums? Sisters? Calling someone a homo?

    Its sledging, get over it.

I am from the camp that just could never be bothered and it never bothered me so I'm not the best one to ask. It probably bothers me more as a bystander.

Like some above I will concede that there are different opinions on this topic and we'll agree to disagree then!

  11. Because it was a little throwaway line that clearly has no basis in reality.

Are you really stupid enough to think Selwood has or wants to do what he said?

Reality is irrelevant. It is not a topic to be joked about or addressed in a sledge. That is the point.

And, no. But you were stupid enough to ask.

  12. I cannot believe some of the people in this thread.

It was a little throwaway line that clearly has no basis in reality and here we have posters mentioning it in the same breath with pedophilia? Are they for real?

The alleged sledge encompasses this very issue. How can it not be relevant?

  13. Cannot understand how the subject of this sledge is considered within the grounds of acceptability. Comparisons between factual events and intent and the location (sporting arena) are irrelevant in the context of decent behaviour unless we are trying to give comfort to paedophiles?

And to save people asking, yes, I have played competitive sport and I am aware of the depths sledging can reach and far from having a high horse I consider myself as down to earth as any other a**hole on this forum.

  14. I agree, it was woeful.

Reminded me of being at a funeral... which is indicative of not only the sounds of the trumpet, but also the mood of the crowd.

I think they said he'll be there for every home game we play at the G' this year. Heaven help us!

    And another thing....

I realise we are only a tenant at the 'G' but must we be subjected to replays of Geelong passages of play (goals) at half time and a ground announcer asking Geelong fans to "lap it up" at the end of the game. It realise it is hard to create an atmosphere in a half full MCG but are we afforded such a warm and fuzzy treament at Geelong?

Maybe the AFL wants football to be sterile on and off the ground.

  15. i love his willingness to get the ball but when he gets it it mostly goes to the opponent

That is just plain wrong. No, he does not hit a target 100% of the time but his disposal today was on a par with all his team mates.

  16. HFF Possibly the hardest position on the ground, they dont call it starvation corner for nothing, Once the domain of skillfull opputunist sharp shooters, Craig Mcrae from Brisbane redefined the role, in brisbanes great era just passed. Hard chaseing tackling fwds with great speed who cause goals by turnovers and chipping in with a goal or 2 is the go. Thats great when team is going well, but when struggling everybody says we need 4 or 5 goals from davey. Opposition teams know Aaron is rarely that productive goal wise if heavely tagged, not many are, but when key fwds are getting beaten the flank is no place to be. Andrew Mcleod went through the same scenario at Adelaide, and was moved to the back flank, look at how productive he has become with many clubs now trying to stop him from that position, Davey is not as good in the air as Mcleod but his run would cut sides to ribbons and the release from tagging pressure would give him new life.

I'm a bit worried about suggestions that Aaron can fill the shoes of Robbo or Neita this weekend. Unfortunately I don't think we have any choice but to retain Aaron close to goals with these blokes out but I can only remember one game wher he has kicked 4 or more goals? I prefer the suggestion of playing him down back though far more than in the middle as some are suggesting. Think he would be far more effective down back than Yze.

  17. So rated in fact, that they traded him.

At best Bizzell plays FF, and kicks a couple. At worse, he does absolutely nothing and his player runs off him all day creating more headaches for us.

Bottom line is, this is most likely Bizzell's last season. He never was and never will be a FF, and playing him there will be like wallpapering a cracked wall. It won't help us in the long term, and it probably won't help us in the short term either.

On the other hand, we can let someone like Newton or Dunn play at FF for the next 4 weeks. They may not dominate, hell they may be completely useless, but at least we'll know. Either we'll unearth a long-term option, or we'll find out if these guys can cut it at senior level.

Neita is not going to be around forever, neither is Robbo, or especially Bizzell.

We're in a [censored] situation, and we can either be brave and make bold moves and gain something, or we can continue to fill gaps with players who are never going to get us anywhere.

Not making the most of this situation would be absolutely criminal, and a further blow to the team.

Can't help but agree with these sentiments. We have quite a few players on our senior list who are yet to play a game for the MFC? It wasn't that long ago that Aaron Davey stepped straight into senior footy where he wasn't even rated as having AFL potential months earlier. The talls on our list may not have the same X factor but at some point we need to identify the next Neitz and Robbo.
