  1. I posted on another thread during the week and Collingwood having a large number of players hit the scoreboard. Today we had 15 hit the scoreboard, 12 of them kicking goals (3 players with 3 and 3 with 2). In the first half of 2021 TMac stood up for us, he was massive up fwd, in the back half and through the finals Brown played some great games. Both were instrumental in our premiership year but after watching todays game I’m not sure either of them are any longer in our best 22. Fast ball movement into a mobile diverse fwd line is the key.
  2. 17 (that’s including Jordan) Premiership players out there today. The team looks strong as does Sydney’s, perfect day for footy, as always no excuses.
  3. And just like that we’re in Melbourne, we caught the first flight as it’s never delayed. Got a few hours to kill in the CBD. Looking fwd to a big response today, Oliver’s 150th and JVR debuting. Carn the DEES
  4. You mean like in last years GF? Should have retired, hoping him being selfish costs then one of Amartey or McDonald.
  5. Ok, I get that so I’ll put it this way…. JVR is like a jack in the box. TMac and BBB play at times like they’re broken men.
  6. He goes at the ball hard, he creates a contest and his follow-up at ground level is exceptional. This is what I enjoyed reading about JVR, Brown anc TMac are both getting on, they’re not done but they have their limitations. Brown’s goal kicking is solid and his marking is at times too (our delivery and slow ball movement doesn’t help his cause) but if he doesn’t mark it then he ability to impact that contest is almost gone, he does lay the occasional tackle. Tmacs issues have been well documented on here. Having JVR and Chandler in the fwd line gives us something different, which is what we lacked last season, we’d become very stale.

  8. For all of Harry McKay’s and Aaron Naughton’s contested marking ability. They are terrible set shots on goal.
  9. Because the majority were barely the required distance.
  10. Watching this adds to last weeks pain.
  11. That kick from Macrae wasn’t 15, yet lions got pinned earlier in the qtr for exactly the same thing.
  12. Pretty happy the club waited until my first game for the year. Looking forward to watching him play. Best of luck JVR
  13. Another quality young player leaving an expansion club. Onwards & upwards to 20 teams.
  14. The Suns normally start a season strongly before tapering off. Rd 1 would have been tough for anyone facing the Swans, last week they couldn’t beat a undermanned Bombers. They are a mess on and off the field, trading away pick 7 last year due to salary cap issues highlighted how far backwards they’ve gone. AFL currently 18 teams (population of Australia 25.6 million) NFL Currently 32 teams (population of America 336 million) 19 or 20 teams would further dilute the talent pool, we have 3-4 clubs who are heavily reliant on AFL funding, are we foolish enough to think that 2 extra teams means 10 games a week and more in the next tv rights deal and that solves all our problems?
  15. Regardless of plays fwd we need to get the ball in there quickly.
  16. Which makes last weeks loss even worse.
  17. My wife and I are flying down Sunday morning so there’s two more, can’t wait.
  18. No they’re not, but they can be set up. Comments like these are up there with “Pies won’t be able to play like that every week” after they beat the Cats in rd 1, to which I responded they don’t have to. The same applies to us, we have Lions and Swans back to back, Swans are fast starters, we need to shut them down early whilst getting off to a good start ourselves. Losses to two other top 4 hopefuls would be s disastrous start to the season.
  19. Another reason this competition doesn’t need 19 teams.
  20. Collingwood had 16 players hit the scoreboard yesterday, 14 of them kicking goals. Last week it was 13 players with 10 of them kicking goals. I understand some people on here have greater knowledge of the tactical side of the game than me, but I’m sick of reading that i / we / someone doesn’t understand someone’s roll within the team. We supposedly have the no.1 ranked midfield and defence and no.6 for our fwd line. We have numerous fwds that on a regular basis don’t kick goals, but I’m led to believe they’re in the team because of their defensive efforts and or their role within the team. It’s seems to me it’s everyone’s job in Collingwood’s fwd line to kick goals. We’ve gone from slow predictable down the line into the fwd pocket, to slightly quicker ball movement to the top of the square where we have more than one fwd competing for the ball. We need to get some separation from our fwds, an extension of that is the separation of the oppositions defence. Cloning Kosi would help enormously as he gives us variation in the middle but his creativity around goals is unrivalled. We need quick entries inside fwd 50 and some more youth to go with it. I’d love to see JVR given a chance, Chandler is starting to show a bit, along side Fritsch and Brown we would have a diverse fwd line. If not this week, then the 6 following games are a lot easier and gives us a chance to try something different.
  21. Jackson having another shocker considering he’s probably in the ballpark of 700k a year.
  22. Our 6 games after the Swans game are what i’d consider to be guaranteed wins, if we beat Sydney and and sit 8 & 1 that would be our season well and truly back on track. 7 & 2 at face value sounds great but when broken down, every time we were challenged we lost means it’s fools gold. Something I said at the start of the season about the Lions also applies to us, we should only really be judged against Cats, Swans, Pies & Lions (maybe Carlton).
  23. Eagles Bombers Tigers North Suns Hawks That’s the games Gawn will / could miss after Sydney. We need to find a way to beat the Swans then get our season back on track @ 8 & 1. 7 & 2 would be fools gold.
  24. Agree with that. We have the talent not the gameplan, and as you e already pointed out we know what to do.
