  1. Same could of been said about Sunday's game, they had the high of the win against Geelong then the low of Gold Coast away. They looked tired on Sunday, but knowing how footy goes, they will come switched on to play.
  2. Yes and no because it's those learning experiences that have helped shape him. He's now found his home as a fwd and it's here he must stay.
  3. Mentally grown in as opposed to physically, he's been of a good size for at least a couple of seasons.
  4. Watts is now the complete player and a genuine game changer after addressing the one part of his game that was missing. 12 months ago I didn't think this would be the case.
  5. Another factor could possibly be that "now" they can absorb pressure better than most. Every club attempts to "get up" to play them as they are the bench mark of the competition and have been for some time. I remember Malthouse saying something similar about Collingwood playing in front of massive crowds every week put them in good stead come finals. Teams lifted when playing the Pies, especially us, playing them in recent years in some ways has been a final of sorts because of the crowd and the game being a stand alone match. People have mentioned on here about the coaches timing of - Petracca's debut - Trengove's return - Grimes 100th As a means of motivation, no disrespect to the above mentioned players but their inclusion alone wasn't/isn't going to greatly effect the game on their own ability but maybe lift the team as a whole, because we still don't come to play every week. For the remainder of the season, especially against the Eagles, Port, Hawks and Cats I want to see some real resilience about us, we also Obviously we all want a big scalp, but if one isn't to come we must fight out every game until the end. We need to learn to come to play every week regardless of how weak or strong we deem the opposition to be or whether or not we are a chance to play finals, or if there is a milestone on hand. We need to build on this winning mindset.
  6. There isn't a stat for this but the Hawks are one of a handful of teams that if at the start of a game they aren't mentally switched on they can just flick a switch and bang they're away. Most teams including ourselves can't do that, if we're not on at the start of the game it's all over.
  7. That was actually quite funny. A side of you I was yet to see.
  8. Did anyone watch the Bulldogs v Tigers? Late in the game Cameron Ling talked about once a player bounced the ball/touched the ball on the ground the period of "prior opportunity" was reset, has this always been a rule? It was in relation to Dustin Martin gaining possession then going for a run, having a bounce then immediately getting tackled. I've never heard of it and thought if someone's gone for a run they've obviously has prior.
  9. There is a bit of that about it, similar to the Petracca debut and Trengove game. Only problem is we need to come to play every week regardless.
  10. I would ask the question as to why Garland signed on for 3 years if he knew he wasn't in the coaches best 22? Was he shopped around but received no interest and a 3 year deal playing in the VFL was better than no deal at all. I get that clubs want depth and having players fighting for spots is a good thing but I would of thought that Garland want under the impression he was a certain starter hence the 3 years.
  11. We have four (five if you include Saints at Ettihad) real test left, Eagles, Port, Geelong away and the Hawks at home.
  12. As I mentioned in the post match discussion thread.... As we know at seasons end every player has a review, Grimes at 27 years of age will be of the belief he's best 22 at "an" AFL club, he will ask the question of incumbent coach Goodwin as to where he stands, I think he will be told he's not in our best 22 and which point he will thank the club for the time he's had here and asked to be traded.
  13. You're right i have called for him to be moved on and for good reason. The moving on of Grimes or the mass reduction in his wage should he be kept (personally can't see it happening but we've just signed Garland on a 3 year contract to play in the VFL) or chose to stay on as a depth player will allow us to keep our talented list together as well as chase talent from outside the club. His decision....or simply ask the question, a rhetorical question at that. There's a lot of class currently out of the side. If all were fit or had another 20 games to their name would he of played last night? As for your comment for Grimes haters let's look at that a bit closer and keep it in context, he played against Freo last night, arguably the most disappointing side this year. Let's see how he goes next week against the Saint, let's see if he's still in the side when we play West Coast, Port, Hawthorn or Geelong and how he goes against those sides when the heat is really applied. And to all the people that think that he's been so hard done by, how do think he's going financially? I think for a player that hasnt reached any great heights as a player he's cleaned up. I love how constructive criticism is seen as "heaping it on him", maybe I should buy into the captaincy destroyed his career, the same captaincy he could of relinquished when Trengove did but chose not to for reasons we've already discussed. Either way in a little over 7 weeks we will have our answer.
  14. I'd put Garland, Dunn and ANB in the same boat. Whilst we have started to develop some depth I can't see the above mentioned happy to sit around and wait for a call up.
  15. Some of out efforts against the Crows, Hawthorn and North show we are improving but sustaining it for four quarters is another thing.
  16. I didn't see the game but everyone's disposal needs to be judged in a game like Geelong/Sydney played in Friday night, in particular the first half. Only then will we know about our players. (I'm assuming the game wasnt played with the same intesity from both sides?)
  17. Appreciate the feedback, will try at watch the first half at the airport tomorrow.
  18. Missed game due to family reasons, more information on White please.... What he did well? What he didn't do? Disposal? Does he hold his spot? cheers
  19. Fair call, the other part is that how the final 8 system currently works is perfect. Any wildcard scenario would add a fifth week of finals which is stupid. This year who ever finishes 5th or 6th could win it, 7th and 8th will be North and West Coast so they'll be out in the first week.
  20. Still missed one, dead in front 10 metres out. To be fair took a couple of great marks. In summary nothing's changed, regardless of what Buckley spoke about post match.
  21. It is ten, I was going off what I head on 3AW. I was initially against the wildcard but am now leaning towards it. 8 rounds lest and ten teams are playing for (technically) nothing.
  22. Again, what part of come switched on to play every week don't the players get? People often throw up the argument "have you ever had an off day at work", well if we want to get technical, bar finals they only have 22 days a year where's they need to come 100% switched on, and yet they either can't or refuse to do it.
