This proposal at Caulfield is for an Administration and Training facility.

How many people on here have visited ( out of the 70K members ) who have actually visited the MCG offices, the AAMI offices or even attended a training session during the year?  Not just at finals time.

It is not for the fans,....... it is for the club, the players and the administration.  And if it is to be in Caulfield, Port Melbourne or Timbuktu, it has to serve that purpose alone.   MCG precinct is DEAD.  It was never an option because no matter what site was proposed, there just isn't enough land available.

This times 1000. First and foremost this is a workplace. Not a cool venue for members to visit every once in a while.

Thanks for this but it all feels a bit like we are being sold a monorail.

Firstly, I don't think its brilliant logistically and it's certainly not in the 'heartland'.  It's the Melbourne Football Club, not Caulfield.  It may be on 3 train lines, but they certainly aren't the 3 that all members or fans are on.  It's very limited thinking to have the view we are a inner SE club, we need to think bigger than that.

Also, Caulfield is not 10 min from the MCG unless you have a helicopter.  Again, monorail.

While the racecourse "could" house two MCG-sized grounds, will it?  There doesn't seem to be any solid plans or even drawings that have been shared, and no word from the VRC around their agreement to any of this.  It's like buying a Toyota Camry and saying "it could go 400km/h" - without saying you need to drop it out of a plane to do so.

A principal agreement really doesn't hold much water.

There may well be a need for facilities in the area, but that's hardly reassuring around who is going to pay for it or support it.

Out of interest, do you live closer to Port Melbourne than Caufield?

Dees will try get pick 7 or 8 using 11 + future first, then offer 6 and 7 (or 8) for pick one, West coast getting Curtin at 6 and another elite talent at 7 or 8 (Caddy osullivan) etc. That's a better offer than 2 and 15 (North) because if you're gonna take Curtin anyway, you'll be getting a much better player immediately after

Possible option. WC may prefer 11 and Future 1st rather than 7 or 8 on it's own.

  4. North have 2, 3, 15, 17, 18

    Dees have 6, 11, Future 1st

Is 2 & 15 better than 6 & 11, I reckon it is, unless you really want Curtain and are super confident he gets to 6 and think 11 is much better than 15. Then Dees would throw in their Future 1st on top, which North probably wouldn't do because they may finish bottom 3 again next year. So they would have to match with another of those 1sts, and does WC think thats better than our future 1st?

I think North are still favourites for number 1, but I can now see why we might be a small chance. And maybe why we were so keen move our pick 14 up 3 spots.

    We'll see, it's all guesswork

  5. This would be a sensational outcome. Worthy of enormous praise to the Administration if it comes to fruition. This home base issue is simply extremely complex and difficult regardless of how much and for how long we have all wanted it.

In my opinion, the most importance aspect of high quality facilities and a great location is the attraction and retention of MFC staff. This caufield option seems to ticks a lot of boxes

  6. Caufield is just as good a location as the MCG precinct in my opinion. If you can set up larger facilities (oval, gym, pool, offices etc) it's a much better option. Multiple train lines run through Caufield. It's also a very attractive area for players / staff to live reasonably close to, which is more important than fans IMO

    It was not Shache.

If we don't land the KPF we have been targeting I will let DL know at 8:30pm who it is.  If we don't get him this year I am certain we will try again next year.  He has been on our radar since he was a junior even touring the club as a16yo. We were to take him in our next pick in his draft year but were beaten to him.

From memory you mentioned a similar situation last year, and it was Tim Membrey. Him again?

  8. Hypothetical trade if Hawks get Bowes and pick 7 from Suns.

Hawks: In: 13, Meek.   Out: 7

Freo: In: Jackson.   Out: 13, Future 1st, Future 2nd (North), Meek

Dees: In: 7, Future 1st, Future 2nd (North) Out: Jackson

Are Freo giving up too much? I think Jackson is worth a lot, the future picks effectively the equivalent of a top 10 future pick.

So on the MFC membership page there is a category to select that is AFL Membership?

If you're an AFL member with club support, you're a member of that club. Counted in the membership numbers, chunk of the coin goes to the club, club sends you the member pack etc.

  10. I think the most important part of any new training facility is it needs to be super attractive to players and staff. That means the space needs to be large enough to house all facilities with room to grow and in a location where it's attractive for players and staff to live nearby or that it's an easy commute.

Any facilities for fans in my opinion are secondary. However honestly if it has the above, it basically covers fans needs also. Players and staff also want access to good coffee and food, either onsite or nearby.

If the MCG precinct can provide this then great. Otherwise in my opinion we should not be wedded to it

Disagree all you like that's great.

In the absence of something there is nothing! There is no reason that the club shouldn't talk about the preferred option

In my opinion there are plenty of reasons why it may not be appropriate to publically announce a preferred option yet. They publically announced a preferred option of Jolimont a little while ago and going public in hindsight was a bad move.

Fingers crossed we hear something soon ?

They have said nothing but to outline a process over 4 years

we either have a preferred site or not

I see no reason for the lack of clarity

I disagree with the opinion that because the public doesn't know the preferred site yet, we must not have one.

so the preferred site is??? I'm with HFF and don't think we have a site yet. Again when did the 4 year plan commence ? We are at least 18m months in.

Is the reason you don't think we have a site because they haven't yet told you what the site is?

Go and read the question I replied too.

People are surprised he isn't being talked up. My answer is pretty much that would most likely mean that he is simply not rated potential to draft standard.

It seems he's rookie at best.

Even if not highly rated, he's playing WAFL Colts and has enrolled in the draft. Given who his dad is and that he's f/s eligible at 2 clubs I find it very strange the media haven't mentioned him at all. Any article would get a plenty of clicks

Yeah I think you are correct, for some reason I actually thought he had another year left to be drafted.

    My mistake

Nah I think the media have always reported it as 2021 also, just did some googling of articles

  16. Might be way off, but something seems a little secretive here. I think the club took down a photo on its socials and it's pre-season training article from the website that had him in it, could have sworn it was him. Now it appears he's nominated for the draft and no media has picked it up either...

  17. I'd be leaving as many rookie spots open as possible if I was Dees. In my opinion there is going to be a heap of players undrafted who if they played in 2020, would have easily been drafted. Could be a real one off opportunity.

Has anybody looked into comparing historical mock draft's at the start of a season to what the actual draft at the end of the year looks like? Would be fascinating to see in the context to this upcoming draft

  18. The Rumour Only thread now needs links in the opening post to rumours, much like the training report threads need links to training reports. All because 90% of the chat is people getting their kicks out of keyboard arguments. Spare me!
