Most people rate Kelly and Aish above Sheed. I rate Sheed above both, but I'd be happy with Aish and Kelly because we can pull the trigger on an inside mid at 19 and there is few. Really like Dumont, he'd be my fav of the draft, really hope we land this kid. Talking to blokes who know a bit, they say we'll take Aish and that he is a standout at 2.

Our second round pick gives us a chance to select A grade talent that slips out the first round. And.. Talent should slip, there's a lot of inside midfielders in the first round, not only are they better than Jones - but we have more of a need for mids. From most people I talk to, they seem to think Jones will be there for our third round - because country were one of the weaker sides. Hard to say whether he'll be there, but I'd think we'll take the risk that he is. Our second round pick is gold, we could very likely get a player equal of our first 2 picks, the first round itself is very even. A player like Durmont has arguably shown more than Aish recently in the SANFL, he could be there, otherwise Dunstan could very well be there. They cannot all go in the first round!

So ignorant supporters don't keep whinging that Jesse Hogan hasn't signed, that's why.

In Leigh Brown's defence, the Collingwood forward line has looked a shambles since he left. Hard to gauge who's departure hurt more for Collingwood - Brown or Dawes.. Either way, their forward line certainly looked better with both those blokes at Collingwood.

An experienced coach would never of let an inexperienced playing group pick their captain, so we can rest assured this debacle won't happen again. Btw, who said anything about Charisma? It's not a political candidate, it's a football captain FFS. Key areas we lack as a club, just so happen to be the best attributes of Nathan Jones, hence why he stands out like a beacon - on and off the field. Jones is such a logical choice that it's just hard to fathom why he isn't already captain. The Jacks won't be captain next year and anyone who agrees otherwise is kidding themselves.
-
Our two captains have been a failure, that is all we really know for sure.
-
Williams and his long lost son Dusty... Sounds good.
-
I don't think they are reasons not to appoint Jones captain. For example, that doesn't sound any different than Ablett Jr whilst he was at Geelong, yet when thrust the captaincy at the GC - he has risen to another level. Jones and Ablett share similar hobbies and they are just quiet blokes who lead by example. I've never heard a bad word spoken about Nathan Jones.

Fyfe is a pipedream, he is a WA lad, so it's unlikely he'd leave. Sloane, Parker, Sidebottom and Martin should be high on our list. Any of those players would go a long way to helping Nath Jones out. The AFL need to give us extra cap space to get these players across. A priority and extra cap space would be good.

Yep, I'd do that in a heart beat and it's realistic if we can land Choco. Not sure Roos would approve of such a move if he were coach, but he might be able to land us Luke Parker. If we lost Sylvia and delisted Davey, we could easily afford Dusty. We are going to have to do something anyway and it's a figure we'll have to pay to get players here.

Gold Coast football club has obviously built an organization that players want to play for. MFC resembles a rabble atm and it's understandable if players don't want to play for MFC. I love our club, but I also try and see things from a players perspective in terms of what is best for their future. Players no doubt have love for the club, but there comes a time when staying at the club might not be best for their future. We owe it to Jesse Hogan to create an environement that players want to play for and see a future in playing here. PJ has said that as much. Thank god for Peter Jackson.

Blease will get another year to show his wares. I'd love the club to target Luke Parker, Steele Sidebottom.

Knightmare knows his stuff, he is a good dude and he puts his material up for others benefit. He doesn't boast and rave on that he is an authority on drafting. Take opinions of his and others on board, watch the players and come to your own conclusions. Drafting isn't exact science and great junior players don't always make it in the AFL. IMO clubs should be looking more into the mental make up of certain individuals than they do. On James Aish, it will be interesting where he goes. I personally think he is a bit too outside for our club. But blokes who knows more about Aish than myself say that Aish is an outside/inside player. So, perhaps maybe his shoulder injury has him treading more carefully this year. One thing I like about Aish is that he has the blood lines for football, he comes from a renowned footy family. I'd still have Sheed ahead of Aish and if we do get two picks, I'd take both and then look for another inside mid with 19. * This is if we can't trade one of our pick. I spoke to my cousin this week, who watches a lot of SANFL and he rates Aish higher than Toumpas, who he didn't rate that highly. But in saying that, he said he rated Trengove higher than both in the SANFL.

Interesting, that is exactly the opposite to what I have been told and was told in 2011.

The best leader should be captain. Usually the best leader works hard on and off the field, eats right, trains right, does all the right things - and more often than not that makes him the best player. Nathan Jones trains harder than anyone on our list and has done so for many years, that is why he improved out of sight - he would'nt be our most talented player. Jones got where he is today on sheer hard work, on the track, off the track and on the field. For a long time Jones has represented everything MFC hasn't and he is still basically doing so on his lonesome. The appointment of Trengove especially, that represents what MFC has become - high draft picks expected to get there on talent. Trengove didn't earn the captaincy, he only had one good year, he got the captaincy on the back of a year where he looked like a deadset plodder. Jones on the other hand was working his butt off and continues to do so. Nathan Jones represents everything that rest of the group don't, hard work, dedication and application. Thankfully we have Viney and Terlich coming through to help Nath Jones out.

We need to get the club in order before we can expect Hogan to even consider signing. Just because we drafted Jesse, he doesn't owe the club anything, I am sure all clubs would've treated him well up until now. Hogan would be silly not to keep his options open, the club should be under pressure to get things right - not Jesse Hogan. Hogan is in his rights to wait until his contract runs out and if the club hasn't improved, then Jesse should strongly consider leaving. Hopefully PJ can get the club back on track so we don't lose more high drafts picks.

The thread was made in 2012 on the back of Neeld appointing 2 young captains. Since then, Neeld has been sacked and his young captains have barely gotten a kick, whilst Jones is on his way to another Bluey. Hopefully the next coach gets it right.

I think we target Collingwood, the rest of those sides won't let their quality go. We have to work with what little advatnages we might have - which would be our ability to pay Sidebottom and co more than they'd get at Collingwood. Of course we need to perhaps pay overs to get some quality here, but we desperately need that quality. Target the top sides, players who might be getting pushed out the midfield - like Luke Parker in Sydney. Players who might be getting paid less than the big stars - like Sidebottom or other players at Collingwood. I'd ask the question to Rockcliff and co, but I reckon we target the top sides who's salary caps are already bursting.

I LOL'd... Good one, I needed that.

Trengove is a hell of a leader, good one bud! I can't believe you'd even show yourself again in this thread. Props for courage, precious.
-
If you want to see the love you'll get around here, go have a read of the Nathan Joness captian for 2013 thread. It's a real dooosy and will give you an insight into what you are up against. Should we strip Grimes of Trengove of the captaincy? Absolutely. Nathan Jones should be captain and shoud've always been captain.

Yeah, they were all spot on as well. Watts is either in or he is out. To quote a bloke who actually bled Red and Blue " If you don't like it, you can F-off to Carlton"...
-
Yeah, good post, I agree. I don't think Neil Craig is an option as coach anyway. Craig was there under Neeld during some head scratching times. Why Roos is a good fit, it's because he is well respected and will demand players to play for him. Craig can't do that, he is too nurturing and surely we are done with blokes nurturing these feminine players. Bailey nurtured them, Craig and Eade are similar. IMO, that leaves us with Roos or Choc.
-
I agree and I think the club really owes the supporters an explanation. We are struggling in the midfield and yet the type of players we need are sitting in the VFL. We all know Magner and Couch aren't superstars, but we know they have a crack and that is what the side desperately needs. The end of the year can't come quick enough.

They could trade Adams to another club for a decent pick, I don't think GWS are in that much of a need to go up 1 position in the draft. It's unrealistic to think they'll just give Adams away to move from 1 to 2.
