It is now February by the way
Yep... and not full of any hope or optimism!

The quality of game is exponentially improving each season and nearly each game.
The second quarter was the best I have ever seen.
Just quietly... how good is it having a key forward!!!!

Out of interest, which club is cutting $3mil from their softcap without doing (at the minimum) an internal review?
It's such a nothing story.... Even the eventual Premiers will need to do a review including coaching.

There are definite leadership issues at this club
Maybe that’s where the senior leaders went at 3/4 quarter time yesterday?

Hmmm.....

The games are too close together. Doesn't give Dan Murphy's enough time to restock my house..........

Yep and we could've drafted Georgiades. We picked 2 players ahead of him
Yep, that’s how drafts work..... maybe Jason wanted to.......
Do me a favour and grab Dodoro’s or anyone of your fancy over same time period.... then your are objective......
-
Elegt....
Its not a 50/50 marking system... it’s also not one guy’s decision.
Rookies, >40 in draft have less theoretical success rates.61% of players play >10 games. Less than 1 in 3 play 50 games. So are they all successes?
Would be interesting to have a look at Dodoro, etc “success” or whoever you deem as a replacement... you will be surprised.
I don’t read every thread, so probably mentioned elsewhere, the guy 3goals against us this week, Jason wanted.

Are we sure we're doing the same this year? It feels like our opponents have a loose defender but is that a byproduct of us sending an extra up to the stoppages?
Absolutely 110% happening this year. Fox Footy showed down the ground angle multiple times last match with Houli free. Macdonald and Fritsch were both socially distancing from him..... across the top of the 50 arc. Hannan in three examples was the only forward inside 50.
If I could work out how to post screen shots I would.

Too much structure, not enough natural skills in my opinion
I'm not sold on this. The trouble is the current structure appears to allow for you look up and see there is a spare defender. Which puts you under pressure to look for the second option. We need Miller, Holland or Pedersen: presuming this was meant to be Preuss. There are options, but they are all aren't playing!!
2nd or 3rd key forward has to have the responsibility for the loose defender if we are going to play an extra around the ball. You don't get 4 points for winning inside 50!!!! And this hasn't changed all year!
I would pick Brown this week and tell him that his only job is to stay inside 50 and bring the ball to ground. No if's no but's. Give away a free kick rather than an easy mark to unmanned defender. Why Brown? Last chance saloon!

Not to simplify too much...
We continue to play one extra around mid field stoppages... We win the majority.
We expect to run and spread.... Tomlinson and Langon bought in to do this...
We expect to handball clear... Clarry et al. Interesting that Brayshaw had 15+ more mins last weekend.
We expect to be able to play on every time... This is fatal.
We expect to be able to kick with accuracy... This is fatal.
We expect to see a forward... We don't select one. McDonald is near wing trying to provide the first option.
We look up and the extra around stoppages leaves a spare defender in our forward line.... A forward doesn't make it their responsibility to make it a contest... Or the forward is 6" shorter and gives away a free!
We win inside 50's... EVERY WEEK
We get killed on the rebound as we don't like to run both ways - and we have our best kick playing 2's because he didn't do this in his first real game (on limited time) in 4+years.
Ahh footy...

Not often I wonder “why am I here?”. There was about 15k at the ground - it was putrid and so were we in the first half. I was very tested in my resolution of never leaving before final siren - the Bullring looked warm and comfortable.
Was speaking to an ex Melbourne staff member about this game a couple of weeks ago - how good is footy!
This and a Brisbane game around same time are vivid memories.

Not sure what game you were watching. Bradtke got smashed in the ruck. even the vfl fill in did a much better job.
Have you seen Bradtke play previously?
Didn’t say he won the ruck, didn’t compare him to another player... he showed significant improvement vs the games I saw him play last year....
Is he AFL ready to ruck? Not a chance. Not many cat B rookies are.....

Lot to like about today... Several picking themselves for round 1.
Kozzie a certainty
Brown a certainty
Lockhard very close to certainty
Bedford could play early
Rivers looks very good
Brayshaw.. no concerns, rust is quickly disappearing
Bradke gone up another gear

Really? I just have the AFL app free with my Telstra account, but are you saying if I paid extra they’d lift the restriction on screen-mirroring?
Missed this sorry.. No, Telstra only has the AFL contract for mobile phone size, can't remember the specs, but is why you won't see it big enough to fill an iPad, etc... they can not allow their feed to resize to anything larger.

If Telstra allowed me to screen-mirror via Apple TV I wouldn’t bother with it. But Telstra are adamant that all the broadcasts of their matches via the app must remain tiny to the eye.
It's not Telstra that is adamant... when you only have the contract for the tiny size, you have to keep it at a tiny size.....

Positive to hear that there were big numbers in participation.
Less positive that a second year small forward ran second in a time trial in front of a host of midfielders coming into their prime.
Oliver, Harmes, Brayshaw and Petracca (wants to play more mid).
Quite alarming really.
Really? How many 3kms are they running in a game? It is a relative measure of fitness: not an absolute. I would be more concerned if no improvement in individuals time come Feb.
You need to look at combination of results to get even a moderate view of their overall fitness/endurance/speed. Would prefer a midfielder who was quick in repetitive 20/50m's and a 13:45-14m Tan than a 12-13min Tan runner...

Didn't Hawthorn just add a 4th ruckmen to their list?
Yes, Hawthorn added Ned Reeves. And this is meant as no disrespect to him, but he is no where near an option for Hawks this year; based on seeing him many times last year. He is Hawk's Project Bradke. He didn't play that much in the ruck in A grade amateurs, let alone VFL, let alone AFL. But then again, in the ammo's he was up against a guy who pushed Jamar to the reserves.

GAMEDAY: B-Side vs Richmond
in Melbourne Demons
Posted · Edited by Steno
Seems everyone is in consensus...
Bowey and Laurie level above
Rosman has to work harder
Farmer has tricks - let’s see how they go in WAFL
Forward line is a struggle - don’t judge Brown or Bradkte on this
VFL players haven’t had a long preseason
Edit:
Petty been solid
Rioli want to join Melbourne?
