Of course he is a hardened body. You don't have to be 'big' to have a hardened body.

Laughable. Absolutely Laughable. Unless something has changed since I last watched him (8 weeks) as well as spoke to him, he is a lean, slightly built player. Doesn't matter if he is 5 foot or 6 foot, he is not hardened, never has been and never will be.

Agree with most of this but the game was well over at 3/4 time.

im at the airport on way home from game and I have to say that was one of the ugliest, boring games of footy I have ever sat thru.

Was it raining at the ground? Looked like it was on TV. Not sure if that may have had an impact on the watchability of it.

Yeah cos Bailey went down that path and .........oh, hangon a minute....

Honestly how can you compare the Era of Bailey opposed to the current Era? It's just bizarre. Should we not play any players until they are 22 and have 70 vfl games? Would that please you?

You know what GD, if you look at the Swans team, we really shouldn't be getting outclassed. They've got a hell of a lot of no names in that team tbh

They do, but they also have about 6 all Australians in their team. That experience has been telling today.

We just don't want it enough. Simple. Too many players hand balling to nothing under pressure, scared to go hard at the contest and are nowhere near their opponent.

Disappointing that we didn't take our chances.

I dispute that. We have had a red hot go yet again, but been outclassed

I understand playing for the future but IMO you don't ignore the present. You man up McVeigh. You tell the players what wet weather footy requires.  Poor selection is also poor coaching.

Anyway I thought we had no chance once I heard the weather forecast.

If it wasn't McVeigh who was mopping up it would be jack, or parker, or Kennedy. I understand what you're saying, I just don't think Grimes comes in and makes a difference in this game or others.

How do you think he would have gone playing as a defensive forward on the unopposed McVeigh. Might have made a small difference.

Maybe. We have several players who could but haven't though.

Vandenberg is completely clueless up forward. We drafted him as an inside bull midfielder who wins big numbers in the the middle. Throw him in there and get him into the game.

Him up forward is a waste of time.

Well he is more at risk of pneumonia than getting a touch today with the role he is playing.

No mate.  He is never an "outstanding" kick.  He doesn't have the technique to ever be outstanding.

But yes, he can hit targets on occasions when given time to execute.

OK, if we are going to argue over that wording.

At times his kicking hits targets and at times looks great. Sometimes he misses. As I said, at times.

You don't think a 27 year old, 98 game, ex captain, of 187cms, is an experienced hardened body, when compared to 5 game youngsters, well we shall agree to differ. BTW, if 187cns is small, I wish I was that small.

Look I love Grimes, ripper bloke. I'm about 191cm so maybe I'm being harsh. But if you think he would come in today and make a significant difference in the conditions, then yes we shall agree to differ. He isn't a "big" 187cm, hardened body, he's never been a great contested player. If he was, he would have been picked in any of our previous 12 games prior to today

  11. Let's be honest, Grimes and Michie would make no difference. As much as people want to whinge and complain, we are playing pretty well, Sydney are just playing better.

I'd love to see us push hogan higher and leave Vandenberg deeper as a target. He may not be a typical full forward but he isn't having a lot of impact up the ground. Perhaps we can use him deeper and use hogan and Dawes our targets 50-80 from goal

Sure we could beat the [censored] again, but we would need 18-22players to all play well on the same day. Not saying it can't happen but we are not at their level of  skill yet.

We beat 'em last year because they didn't take us as a serious opponent and paid the price.

    Geelong obliterated the Dogs

and deserve to sit on Top...

Nah, disagree. We completely outplayed them. They were a team that didn't make the finals and weren't that good, but we played a good game that day and they had nothing.

I'm not saying they don't deserve to be top, I'm saying they are not that great as opposed to other years. No one in the league is that scary this year. Even today is a winnable game ,Sydney have lost a few times this year when confronted with strong pressure.

I am staggered, given the conditions today, that Grimes wasn't played. A hard experienced body would have been a plus.

I know you're a fairly astute poster and I'd imagine you get to see your fair share of games and players.

Yet in what world is Grimes an experienced hardened body? I stood next to him while talking to another player at the Brisbane match, and I'm absolutely shocked at how small he is. This other player is no monster either, but grimes made even he look bigger.

The 2 flaws in Grimes that have been around for eternity, his disposal, and his strength over the ball. His competitiveness surely can't be question, but his lack of strength in the contest does.

If Good guys were given games, Grimes would go down a 300 gamer. I do hope he gets a chance soon to reward his vfl form, but I don't agree he is a hardened body.

The offer Tmc manager put to the club was far from low. It put the club on the back foot by the size $$$$ of it.

Have you a source for this? Because I've heard it was the opposite. And I've also heard there has been a counter offer that is now in the club's hands. That deal, from what I've heard, was very likely to be filled in the next few weeks. My mail has been for over a month that it will be done and a dual announcement with both Macdonalds to be announced around or shortly after the bye.

another ringing endorsement for the usefulness of statistics.

Were we the only team there that didn't have 3 players listed with a positive??

For what it's worth, I don't think Tom is a horrible kick all the time. I think he is an outstanding kick at times, but he has those absolute brain fart moments where he tries to do the impossible and it looks disastrous. The first quarter of the essendon game is one I'll never forget, waltzing out of the back 50 and switching, only to miss kick to I think merrett who walked in to a goal. But he also has moments where he lace out hits blokes pushing up on a wing. He's still a reasonably young defender, playing a new role this season. His last month has been very solid.

I think like numerous players on our team, they are still coming to terms with what's asked of them, or how to implement what's asked of them. Tom would be a disaster to lose, replacing him with hurley or similar would still create problems as hurley would need to learn the role, as well as being surrounded by young inexperienced defenders.

Last round should be a lot of fun!

Why? Do you think we are incapable of beating them again?

Honestly I just find these pessimistic posts absurd. For example, last week Jesse white and Mason Cox were going to destroy us. Look how that turned out. I just raise the question, do you think other teams look at us and question how to stop us?

Thus far this year, we have max gawn giving first ride to a midfield who leads the comp in clearances, we also follow up secondary stoppages with clearances ahead of any team. We win ball on the inside with the best of them and possess a forward line that not only has a multi pronged line up, but kicks more accurate than any other team.

I'm obviously not saying we will beat geelong, but they are hardly the same team who won everything in the years bomber coached, only 13 days ago carlton destroyed them.

This whole "well we won't beat them" mentality is a load of tripe, we finally have enough weapons that we can match any team, especially in a year with no absolute stand outs such as 2016

I think Matt Jones is improving. We have players on our list who aren't - or won't. I think M.Jones is still an improving player. I would hold him before many others. Also glad we have Spencer signed till the end of next year. He would most definitely of attracted interest from other clubs. If Gawn goes down (god forbid), at least we will have a back up ruck man. When Spence is fit, he can hold down the fort. I would back him in against the likes of Hampson, Lobbe, Sinclair, Leunberger, and most back up rucks.

Yep absolutely agree. Considering we would be paying him in only cans recyclable in south Australia, I think he is worth the place on the list. This time last year there were massive questions on gawn, and 12 months later he is arguably the best ruckman in the game. Who knows how Spence will continue to improve, but while that trajectory is up, I think he is great foil for gawny
