David King thinks Eagles will Belt Us.
Agree Kingy, but sometimes it's good to win ugly. But to know we have another gear or 2 is great internally. My fear is that the players have had 2 amazing crowd-backed adrenaline-filling games. The next one will be flipped on its head in that respect. Also Coast have Kennedy & Darling, unlike a few weeks ago. Before Demonlander's vilify him and throw metaphoric eggs at his windows, Kingy has been our greatest supporter in 2018, even when the simpletons (Lyon - 8 by default; Demonology slitting its wrists after Geelong and Sydney) were wallowing in the veil of negativity.

My 3 word player analysis V Hawthorn
Tyson has to 'know his limitations', and sometimes doesn't. Unlike Vanders, he is so easy to tackle. Hence, Tyson shouldn't take the tackler on. Tyson is also treacle. Lewis might actually have him for pace. Hence (II) Tyson's radar/antennae for footy awareness must be on-song. TGR (channeling Joe-Boy)

My 3 word player analysis V Hawthorn
Mate, I gave Spargo the glass-half-full treatment. If I was brutally honest, the 3 words he would have got from me was "Lucky to Play" For a glass-jaw like you, just accept the '2 important contributions'.

My 3 word player analysis V Hawthorn
Then you and I are in a minority. You can add Mitch Duncan and Josh Caddy while you are at it. Breust is only ever icing on the cake. In a dominant team, he will kick 4. MFC supporters and many others have been sucked into his actual individual brilliance. This guy would have done zilch if he was at Melbourne for most of this decade. Go to any hot hard final that Hawthorn has played in, and he has done nothing other than the odd 'joe the goose' over the top.

I doubt you see a realist.

The Jack Viney Made Me Cry Thread
Matthew Lloyd recounted on 3aw, that Viney was amongst a youth touring team (I think). Players were soft and coaches (Kirk, Lloyd, O'Loughlin) gave the group a spray and got out the bump bags. Kirk held the bump bag and Viney apparently just hit it with all of his might. Kirk had his head split open, but didn't cry.

OMac has arrived.
A majority here owe OMac an apology. The Hawkins game was only a month ago, where he was on song and delivery was almost unstoppable. OMac's best game for the club last night. A sense of calm now when he gets it. Will progress and mature ala his brother and D.Grimes.

Has OMAC surpassed his brother? (The Age)
A month is a long time. Most sheep around here were calling for his head. Not many of the nervous nellies were sticking fat with OMac.

The Importance of Jordan Lewis
Have a look at his first marking effort on the southern stand wing. Not setting physical examples despite the 'leadership' mantra. His kickout in the 3rd should have cost us a goal too. Even when Geelong were coming in parts of the last, he gave Kelly a bit too much room. We were a 13 goal better side tonight. Their entries were small, slow and indirect. You can applaud him on tonight. A good footy mind wouldn't.

The Importance of Jordan Lewis
Incorrect. His milestone game against the crows was relatively brilliant. On land and ology, we have tended to laud players who play well when it doesn't count or when the victory is relatively easy. He hasn't played well at all in most of our losses for mine. Lets see what happens on the wide expanses of the G, against the best teams, when the stakes are highest. Surely, they will play through his opponent and/or drag him up and beat him home. If he is an on-field liability in the next stanza, his experience counts for nothing. If he plays well in the next 1 (or more) finals, I will be happy to admit I was wrong. If he doesn't, then the simpletons will quickly forget the email and other feel-good rhetoric. There is a fine-line between the importance of Jordan Lewis, and the impotence of Jordan Lewis.

Key tactical issues v Geelong
Frost will not start on Hawkins, despite doing well after the horse bolted at KP. We need him rebounding shallow entries, as he has done.

Key tactical issues v Geelong
On the flip side, Scott will instruct his big forward(s) to knee Gawn in the back whenever they get the chance.

The Importance of Jordan Lewis
Whether Lewis is considered valuable or not will be determined in the next 2-3 weeks, where he will play against the best players/coaches where the speed is on and stakes are highest. If he loses his feet, and gets caught lagging, allowing Duncan 3 easy goals in the last half of an elimination final; thereby throwing us out, the glowing tributes will about-face here quickly...again. Then all we will hear is the intangibles of emails and leadership.
-
Slamming Sam Frost
Then I'm a genius and a fool. As for Jordie. I am crossing my fingers and toes in every minute in finals, on the big expanses of the MCG, against the best teams/coaches in the AFL.
-
Slamming Sam Frost
For the majority here who could not see Frost’s value to the team, it is a cop-out now to suggest he is a different footballer now. He is still prone to the odd poor kick, and god forbid, holding the pill. While many supporters focus on these, his closing speed and rebound-inducing-overlap is pivotal to a slowish team. Roos couldn’t believe that he was playing for Casey, as did a few backers here. Lever’s injury forced our hand; and Frost is sticking it up a majority of supporters and a doubting coaching group.

How many games has Weed played in succession? I recall him getting picked then dropped...then picked and dropped and so forth. One thing that Goodwin and Co have done poorly IMO is not giving guys at least 2 games to shine. Yes his marking looked great today and will probably play next week. But young guys coming in, shouldn't have the shadow of the axe over them constantly. Most guys with reputation are given a licence to have a poor game or two. Yet young kids aren't given a licence for at least one. Many a great coach has picked a kid and guaranteed him two or three to remove focus from the axe above.

Farewell Jesse Hogan
This possibility is why I think Melbourne is a potential suitor for Tom Lynch. Trading Hogan secures us picks to trade, and frees up salary space. If I was Tom Lynch, Melbourne would virtually guarantee him ulitmate supply. We get the ball I50 more than any other team.

Losing Jack Viney
Irony is that Mr. Hyperbole wouldn't have let Viney return so quickly after plantar fascia surgery in 2017. You reap what you sew. I don't feel sorry for the club or Viney with this foot saga. Totally preventable.
-
Jordan Lewis is absolutely cooked, never pick him again
Amount of times Lewis goes for the kick of the ground when the ball is even off the ground, is quite alarming. If Melbourne are after another cooked player to bolster our 'experience' on field, we should also go for Harry Taylor. At least we would show some consistency.

The Need for Outside Midfielders
Gaff is vanilla squared. He and Shuey are front-runners. Surprised we didn't go for Saad last year. We have paid 800k for Lever. That makes TMac worth 900k in my book, which would be a bargain. Do we have the luxury to keep purchasing, or do we try to keep our talent that will get offers in the next few years. Lets go for outside speed in the super-draft. Hang on, we have hand-delivered Adelaide our picks in the super-draft. Sometimes, when you pee in the bed, you have to lay in it.
