Hate to rain on Oliver's parade, but I am genuinely amazed that people keep saying that he's our best player since Flower when we literally have Max Gawn.

People value different things in football players.

As a lifelong midfielder throughout my amateur career, he was impeccable to watch.

  2. Probably the saddest and most deflated I've felt in years.

It was probably time to say goodbye, but he was the best player the club has seen in four decades.

Four time B&F winner, including in our premiership year. Honestly going to be gutted to see him in GWS colours next year. I hope the move out of Melbourne is good for his personal life, and he can find his peak form again.

Always a premiership Demon, and always a legend of the club.

hes a complete and utter distraction, and is crazy unprofessional on and off the field. seeya clarry time to grow up

I agree, but to pay his salary for him to play somewhere else is a very bitter pill to swallow.

I'm almost inclined to say pay him his full clip to play at Casey and do whatever he wants off-field for the next four years, and don't show up to the club.

Howdo we even know the Collingwood player isn't actually gay? He has every right to be a professional footballer and every right to pretend he's not gay (as sad as that is in so many ways).

I'm more of a lurker than a poster, but just wanted to highlight this comment as it kind of gets to the heart of it. Statistics would say there is a better than 60% chance there is a gay player on the field in any given game of football.

I personally know one ex-footballer who is gay and has chosen not to come out, even now after he is retired.

He doesn't want to come out because one, the footy public is ruthless, both at the games and on social media, and two, he felt there would be a lot of pressure put on him being the first openly gay player. He was worried that media in their quest to do the right thing would make him a poster boy, and he just didn't want the spotlight and inevitable abuse that would bring.

Even if you were to put aside the crowd and general public who have to hear these things, you can't say that there is no victim.

There is no excuse for leaking. NONE. Do we know for fact that the players didn’t know? I suspect they would have found out last night as well.

According to Morris who broke it, the players were set to be told this morning.

    111-90-1 Record

    5-5 Finals, broke a 12 year drought

    2021 Premiership, broke a 57 year drought

Forever a legend of the club and sad to see it end like this. Love you Goody and hope whatever is next goes well.

I dislike Geelong so much. I don't know how good Sam McClure's information is, but it has rubbed me the wrong way.

In all honesty, I would rather have Clarry on his current salary averaging 22 possessions for us than paying him 700k to play well at Geelong.

If he is deadset on leaving, the club needs to make it clear that his fresh start has a significant associated cost and the club will not be paying a single dollar of his salary to play in other colours.

  8. Tommy has had an absolute rollercoaster career with us.

From the depths of our slump in the early 2010's, to the false start in 2018, to a premiership player. From backman, to forward, to swingman, to forward to backman.

Honestly just a great servant of the club who at 32 is in as good of form as he has ever been. An absolute credit to his work ethic and ability to get and keep his body right.

Hope he makes it to 300, he certainly deserves it.

I know it’s a long shot but  I wonder if our recent issues and Trac’s situation might have occurred if Gus was still at the Club.

I really think Trac might like others be missing the Gus effect within the Club.

Good point, and I highly doubt it would have. Gus was loved amongst the playing group because of the strength of his character, and you know he would've been talking to Christian non-stop and keeping others apprised of the situation.

There is no doubt in my mind that Gus was the next captain of the club, and his speech saddens me to see. I can only imagine whatever he does next, be it in footy or out, he will perform extremely well

Very common sense approach, especially given in Fairfax Vs Voller the high court indicated a web forum could be considered a publisher and responsible for content posted on the site

'Journalists don't make things up'.🤣🤣🤣 Only one brain-dead take here. Sam McClure " my sources are strong that Harley Reid will not go to the Eagles". Goodnight.

I said they may have unreliable sources but they don't just make things up.

Another room temperature IQ take from you.

  13. 9 minutes ago, Deelectable said:

Point being mate anyone can say they have a source to support anything.  It's totally meaningless.

Yep they can say whatever they want, you can choose to believe them or not, but no one that knows anybody at the club is going to come out and name them on a public forum.

Then you suggest professional journalists have no sources. Their source might be unreliable but they don't just make these things up mate.

Like I said before, to ask someone on this board to put someone they know at the club, and to suggest journalists just make up stories out of thin air, is a braindead take.

Just gotta love these people🤣🤣🤣" I have actual sources. I work in the field". Side splittingly hilarious! Go on, supply those sources. Of course you can't.Like McClure, Morris etc you have none. Meantime I have a source that says you're a Collingwood plant on these boards. Sorry, can't reveal who that is.😘

"Out your friend who gave you inside information in confidence publicly or you're a liar"

    Braindead

I ordered mine from The AFL Store the day after the Grand Final and it only arrived on Monday.

Still waiting for the Max Gawn Diary ordered through Booktopia which has been sitting with Australia Post since Dec 9. Was meant to come last week, expected delivery is now Dec 27.

Very disappointing. I know it's for yourself but you would hate to have been planning to give it as a Christmas gift

I didn’t know that there were two versions of the Premiers Beanies and Scarves.

Left was purchased from the MFC & right was purchased from the AFL.

I remember seeing the two different beanies when I ordered from the club on the night of the game. I preferred the one on the right, which finally arrived today.

A little annoyed that my copies of At Last $39.99 and Max's Captain Diary $32.99 have still not turned up but both are in my local Target store at $19.99 and $24 99.

All my big expensive items have arrived now but nothing from the club or the AFL store. Learnt a lot after 57 years of waiting. ie the Demon Victory Pack is $94 at JBs Yet wait a few months "If you can" at it will be $6.95 like the Richmond 2020 one. The Full season one is $139 and the 2020 one is $34.99.

Next year I will be buying from the Demons store in person and not on line.

Certainly hasn't been ideal, but at the end of the day I prefer the money to go to the club rather than Target.

Ha anyone received their premier's beanie yet? Just working out if I send the club a hurry up email

I haven't recieved mine yet either.

I note the website still shows them as a pre-order item with an expected release date of November 1
The AFL store website shows they have them in stock though.

I hope the club gets these out in time for Christmas, though I would've liked to have mine before next weekend.

  19. I see a lot of similarities with Carlton right now to when we hired Neeld.

Old coach fired after only a few years
Bring in the club legends to pick the new coach
Experienced senior coach pulls out of the race because the selection process seems a bit scuffed (Sheedy and the powerpoint)

I hope for their sake it goes a little better than it did for us.

Changing sports for a minute, 3 Portsmouth youth players (all aged under 18) were sacked after a racist conversation was leaked online after the Euros.  It's balancing act of punishing the individual/needing to set an example against educating the offender. (An Extension of the retributive vs restorative justice debate if you will)

I don't know the answer or what is appropriate punishment for any of these instances. For Walker you can say 6 weeks isn't enough and you're probably right. Even if the AFL went harder on Walker I sadly don't think that would reduce the amount of racist comments some indigenous players receive online.

Fair enough. Perhaps cancelling a contract is a step too far, but my main point is the disparity between the way the general public is punished for a similar incident, and the way Walker is.

It comes off like the AFL is tough on racism until there's a chance it will cost someone money, then 6 weeks is good enough.

6 Matches is not enough, i am of the view that if a player makes a comment like this they should be given a zero strike policy, they should be sacked on the spot.

AFL players carry a responsibility to be role models and how many feral Adelaide Supporters, and wider supporters (Collingwoods entire base) will now think it's okay to say things like this because Tex did

Im inclined to agree with you. Case after case of rank and file punters shouting things over the fence at players have resulted in membership cancellations and multi-year bans. The same integrity unit at AFL house then comes out and slaps a former club captain with 6 weeks.

Should the standard for players, especially a former club captain not be the same if not higher than that of the fans? What is this difference in this case?

I would think in this current year we would be moving towards flat out cancelling contracts for this kind of behaviour.
