  1. Must say I am impressed with the club's marketing. I hadn't payed my renewal yet. Just got a membership card in the mail today with instructions on how to activate it. What a great idea.

Then an hour later I get the membership drive call from Oscar McDonald and I signed up on the spot.

He reckons he is in for a better year than Tom as well

Why would that be an issue?

He wasn't indigenous. He was Brazilian. Is he some advocate for 'affirmative' action hiring policies?

Not sure on his motivations, just that it was his complaint. Here is the section from the article

    Quote

The documentary does not cover his time at Melbourne but he says now it rankled him that at this club, too, there was not one Indigenous staffer based at the MCG office nor any Indigenous coaches.
"I did not see one person of colour in their administration and in my career I've never once had an Indigenous coach. The AFL loves to boast about its wonderful Indigenous talent so why aren't their talents being fine-tuned for coaching?
"You tell me Leon Davis couldn't teach footballers. He taught me things about football no one else could teach. Why was that never harnessed?"
Lumumba said his return to Melbourne in the coming days will see him deal with "unfinished business". Having spoken previously of his battle with depression he has now rejected alcohol and prescription drugs as a way to alleviate stress – a well-worn path presented to him and which he has seen others take. He meditates daily, has transformed his diet, is in a relationship with an American woman he does not wish to detail and is in a far better place than during his final year of football.

I've always been of the opinion that we should hire the best candidate for the job. If our indigenous players would be more comfortable have an indigenous member on the staff, then I guess that makes an indigenous candidate the best for the job.

As for the Leon Davis comment, H seems to imply that Leon wanted to coach but no-one gave him a shot. I was of the understanding that Leon wanted to go home to Perth, and wasn't interested in staying involved in the AFL.

Will be interested to see if anything comes out of this "unfinished business"

Chimp is unaccetable but so have some of mine.  I don't condone racism but I also think it gets highlighted in a politically correct world.

You are right of course as to how these things get blown up.

I guess this is always a weird one, because since the dawn of time giving insulting and hurtful nicknames has been a part of the footy club mateship and culture, but at the AFL level the clubs are also a workplace, so if someone starts making noise you have to stomp it.

He left a sour taste at Collingwood and the same at the Dees.  I was a fan but really didn't like how he messed us around for 6 months and left us a player short on our list this year.

I wonder what criticisms are in store for us and our doctors in his doco?

    I won't be watching.

Doco doesnt cover his time at Melbourne, but from the article, seems his main gripe at the Dees is that we had no indigenous people on staff. Not sure if this has changed since he left?

I've had all sorts of nicknames I didn't like. You cop them and move on. Stormy Charles was a shocker but you move on and let the players move on.

As have I, but chimp is pretty unacceptable.

Did anyone have the misfortune of watching the 7:30 Report last night?

They tried to compare Women's AFL football, AFL membership and AFL support to the NRL and then somehow concluded that the AFL were soft on domestic violence by comparison. Of course the NRL has no Women's teams, their female membership pales in comparison and I'm guessing their ground roots support sucks as well.

It had to be seen to be believed.

To be honest Im sick of the media trying to push it's social justice agendas on sporting codes.

The AFL, NRL and their respective clubs seem to be the only two orgamisations in the country held responsible for the conduct of their employees 24/7/365.

Very interesting to see demons whipping boy 2nd, yes he handballs and chip kicks a lot but the % is still elite, he has 1 bad turnover which makes it seem like he's had 7.

TO be fair to posters ripping into him, handballing to a man who gets gang tackled is still an effective disposal.

  7. A lot of UFC fighters are now taking longer and longer layoffs after being knocked out, with some citing that coming back too soon they find themselves more susceptible to being knocked out again.

As much as I dont like it for his development, maybe Gus would see some benefit to hanging up the boots for the year and just sticking to training.

Has anyone used ExpressVPN? I'm off to Canada on Thursday and am planning on giving it a go... first 7 days are free and they have a 30 day money back guarantee if you're not satisfied. $20 per month.

Might be worth trying the browser Opera before forking out for one if it's just for WatchAFL. It has a free built-in VPN, though I'm not sure if they have end points in Australia

    Still a pretty low start.

After the competition blows up in year one, I expect a lot of the athletes will be thrilled to receive a large pay rise for season 2018.

Either it's not factual and "Scoop" is a scumbag for making it up, OR it is factual and he's a scumbag for running off to tell everyone on radio about it.

    Either way....

Agreed. It's sad that most aren't even suprised by this behaviour from "journalists now"

There's lots of studies that indicate the effects get much worse as you get older. When you consider that H would have likely had multiple concussions through his career already then I think you're adding 1+1 and getting 3 mate.

Not to mention the documented links between concussion and depression. Whatever the case, all the best to H, can't wait to see him back out on the pitch in the red and blue

Still can't believe anyone would think Viney might be in trouble.

watch it again, he put Rance to the ground twice and yet the two tigers who came to support Rance, were not remonstrating but just pushing Viney away. They knew Viney had done next to nothing and that Rance deserved a lot more than what he got

Yeah, watching the replay now im home it doesnt look as bad as I initially thought.

Still what a champ he is.

  12. We're going to hear a bit about it over the next few days. Some will love it, some will loathe it. He might get weeks for it.

But no more are we the whipping boys of the competition. There was no hesitation, Jack Viney went in for his mate, something few of our players have been willing to do for the better part of 10 years.

    This is a disgraceful thread/idea.

The current players are innocent and this is mean- spirited at the least.

What goes around comes around. Draft fixing by us a few years ago?

Oh wait- that didn't happen did it?  Chris Connolly said so didn't he?

I will be ashamed to be part of a demon crowd tomorrow that participated is this process, not to mention the example so-called adults are setting to younger fans in the crowd.

Booing cheaters is disgraceful? You're right, maybe we should all get behind Sheeds and march in support of it instead.

What exactly are the players "innocent" of? They have been found guilty by the court of arbitration for sport of being drug cheats. They are only "innocent" in the same way we are "innocent" of tanking, in that we absolutely tanked, and were just lucky enough that the AFL's kangaroo court wasn't questioned on that occasion. It truly boggles the mind to see the rainbows and unicorns world some "adult's" live in.

Needs to think on his feet.

Spent 3 quarters being beaten in arm wrestles before starting to move and lead and provide a valid target and suddenly picks up 3 goals.

I was getting sick of yelling at him to lead and provide an option in the first and third quarters

Very disappointing first 3 quarters, but he took it on his own back in the last and wont the game for us. Im so conflicted ...

just run hola or a vpn, and buy a season pass to watchafl.afl.com.au. streams in hd - it's a little bit behind the real time, or even the time of the foxtel go or afl live app, but quality is outstanding thru a pc.

only a titch more exxy than the afl live season pass too.

Please dont run Hola. Have a look into their unethical practices that were revealed last year and choose a real vpn provider
