  1. beware the swooping magpie
  2. Naughton signing for $10M for 8 years makes JUH's contract negotiations next year interesting. Some pundits rate JUH above Naughton
  3. Assuming Oliver stays the process has been interesting in looking at how clubs value draft picks over proven players. No matter how you look at it Oliver is in the top fifteen of present players and at 26 has another say 7 years to give. The fact that presumably neither Eagles or North were willing to float picks 1 or 2 plus a sweetener intrigues me. The same happened last year with Jackson where we got 2 pick 13's (by a fluke the future 13 morphed into 5) for a pick 3 proven key position player. To the uninitiated the market seems skewed and if that be the market compensatory draft picks, Academy and father-son picks are incredibly valuable
  4. but there's a bakery (which has been renovated) and ??? Thank you for explaining what the strange monument was
  5. Wudinna.... looks interesting judging from the pictures on Google maps
  6. We could ask the Richmond foot medico... wait on he's a Richmond player... he'll be fine
  7. I'm warming to Lynch but not for a first round pick. Old, injured and highly paid = mid second at best
  8. Our star players are likely to have uplift clauses reflecting the new EBA. McKay may have one as well. I have no issue with the dollar amount but tying up the money for 6 years plus draft picks to get the deal done. In racing parlance.. prefer others... but they are not available Difficult
  9. The H McKay contract is reportedly $1M per year until end 2029 That's a lot of money
  10. There's a numbers $ issue somewhere. Not sure what it is
  11. Bulldogs have young Darcy to return. In the first round or two they played Darcy as well as Naughton, JUH and Lobb forward. It didn't work. Darcy went down back and then to VFL and then was cruelled by injury. He should be right for 2024. Lobb was played on the wing and was dropped towards the end of the season. Dogs would be open to a low cost transfer and might be prepared to throw in some money to assist. Do we want him? He rucked occasionally at Freo as I recall
  12. Pies aren't dumb... They have said they will ask after the trade is done. By doing this they have devalued our trade ability by the usual uncertainty that accompanies any legal opinion. Hard question .. will we guarantee the Swans that they only have to pay $650k per year It's a mess
  13. The MRO and the grading system was meant to simplify things. I wonder if we should bring back the appeal jepoardy. One week or more discount for pleading guilty seemed to work well. The brush of the hair incident that cost us the SF has made me question the whole "touched goal" rule. Frankly I cringe when the ARC says "we can clearly see XYZ" because most others can't
  14. Essendon were vying for 5th until the wheels fell off around Rd 18. WC membership and reserved seat holders almost notionally sell out Optus each week so it doesn't matter much attendance wise. Similar with Adelaide. Sure you might not get the last 20% but you now get a bigger base crowd at each stadium. Then there was Gather Round (an extra round) and the luck of sell out Melbourne finals. Pre covid even PF's rarely sold out
  15. With the increased capacity in SA and WA this is not a surprise. Combine that with Essendon and Pies having good seasons plus Carlton's late run. By % of population, crowds are way down from the VFL days of the 70's. (You can skew figures anyway you like these days) GCS and GWS are attendance failures and don't look like going anywhere. AFL is a very long second to NRL in NSW and Qld. Let's be honest television money saved the competition
  16. Perhaps he can assist us by seeing the dark moon rising so as to keep the good wheel turning (Boy this is going to be a long few weeks)
  17. Read the post please Bedford is a Laurie type who we drafted The Hibberd comment was a separate point lamenting the fact that we knew Hibberd was slowing down 3 years ago yet we did little by way of recruiting for that position. The six Lauries are: Spargo Laurie Moniz Wakefield Woewodin Chandler and Bedford (now gone). 6 players in a similar mould. Sure there are minor differences but they are all from a similar bowl of vanilla ice cream
  18. Can he part time ruck and would he move to the East on a one year contract. I'm all for one lottery ticket but don't want to tie up too much
  19. How did we end up with so many Laurie "type" players. If you include Spargo and Bedford we probably have 6 of these players of the same type, height and skill level. Did we come up with a Hibberd understudy.... can't think of one
  20. Agree Not too much joy for viewers either. Watching the same gameplan at VFL level is even worse
  21. Time to drop Alice... Used to like it but no more I live in fear of being GCS' bunny in Darwin. Bulldogs lost to GCS this year and lost the following week in Melbourne Bulldogs also got an SA team in Gather Round (and lost)
  22. too small we need a tall
  23. The boundary line game is finished. Ask the Lions who are probably best suited to play the style with multiple fit high class experienced forwards. The strange thing is that when two corridor teams meet (GWS v Pies for example) the corridor gameplan often falls down as well
  24. You simply can't carry two injury prone under performing aged forwards. If we had no salary cap and a list of 60 then maybe.. but in the real world something has to give
  25. Take a look at the third quarter Last quarter only marginally better (put the scores out of your mind as that was the thing that kept it interesting)
