  1. With Viney and pick 4 being "ready to go" midfielders and Rory Taggert being a 2011 second round pick who has yet to play, fingers crossed Pre season draft pick 3 could get us another mid. I think Dawes is a great decision at pick 20. Anyone know who pick 20 was last year? Some of these draftees are much better on paper than when they arrive at the club.

  2. Would GC not think that, should Viney go in the second round, one of our other early picks will be available for trade. Given they are probably going to need multiple clubs involved in the Caddy deal, perhaps it would benefit them to leave those pick active. They may end up trading for one of those picks.

Eg. McIntosh and Gysberts to Geelong

    Caddy to North

Pick 13 and North 1st round pick to GC

Pederson and something from GC to Melbourne

Example only. But if we use 3 on Viney surely we're less likely to trade with picks before the second round.

I guess what I am asking is what do GC get from bidding on Viney, unless they genuinely want him. The winner if we take him at three is the other clubs with selections directly behind us. They effectively move up one place.

  3. 2 points. Sylvia - while he is capable of a lot more, on the eve of the year he broke his back. Not a hamstring injuriy, recovery is long and painful, high expectations are unreasonable, perhaps took time to catch up with the new coaches, our best player over the past month. Jake Spencer some ability but he's not Dean Cox. Pretty good return from an ACL injury for a big man

  4. Had a couple of reasonable games. Hes a fair mark, good kick at goal but ordinary field kicking. His bad ones outweigh the good ones for me. Sick of seeing him carry on when we are being belted. Gives away a lot of free kicks and 50's. Man without a position. I'd like our leftover / depth players to be midfielders. He's not young and not improving.

  5. Thought Nicholson was coming good too prior to injury. Individually I think there's a bit to look fwd to. Its just when you add the long list of disastrous seasons - jurrah, Bate, Petterd, Maloney, Davey, Gysberts, Morton, Dunn and MacDonald (for most of the year), Stef Martin, Cook - it never ends. Lot of disasters!

    I'm optimistic about next year.

    Was last year too.

  6. After the energy watch disaster the club seemed to be in all sorts. Off the field. Since then we secured webjet, hertz, Opel and minor sponsors, seems a good recovery on the surface. The onfield performance, and the off field antics of some of the players would do little to attract investment. We have no bonafide stars for sponsors to use in marketing. His year looks good , all things considered.

  7. Interesting to see that there is not a single no. 1 draft pick at a top 8 team as the ladder sits right now. Not even sure if there are any priority picks, maybe hawthorn with Franklin / Roughhead. Looking at the ladder, it looks to me that the majority of early picks are at clubs in the bottom half. Top teams have had early picks, but none excessively so. Perhaps airing the truth will help the club more than it will set them back. I doubt there will be any ramifications from Brocks comments, it has been speculated on in the past, surely the AFL has looked at it before.

I'm a little over pinning my hopes on early draft picks, we just do nothing with them.

  8. Neeld's challenge will come at the end of the year. Hope he dosen't hold on to the same players and make the same mistakes as the previous coach. Petterd, Bate, Dunn, Bennell and the rest of the players that have no ability to play midfield roles hopefully have one foot out the door.

Feel of Neeld, he has the worst midfield around. Drafted Tynan and Taggert - one game between them. Gysberts also has been in rehab all year.Reigning best and fairest has been poor all year and Sylvia broke his back on the eve of the season. I'd say free agents signing at their current clubs, so it will be back to the draft. Viney will probably start round one, possibly with picks three and four. Either way a whole new midfield mix for next year.

Neeld has been in the job since September. Giving him ultimatums, or deadlines at this stage is nonsense. Like all coaches he will have to perform. So far I'd say all we have learned is we have a list of players, a lot of whom are not up to it or injured at the moment.

  9. Just not sure his poor form means he wants out. He appears to have a lot of friends at the club and a good lifestyle. Obviously struggled to cope with the new coaches, the leadership group and even being passed by his mate Nathan Jones as our best midfielder. He Hasn't caught on with new game style. And looks either confused or disinterested on the field. I think he should be dropped, but I think he can fight his way back. Hell never be our best mid again, he dosen't run well enough, but we are desperate for midfielders, for experience and strength. Surely the bombers won't pay anything for him, he's certainly not in there best midfield. I suspect he'll get a better offer at MFC than anywhere else because of our weak midfield. Surely he'd have to go for a lesser contract, or am I missing something? He hasn't shown any rival clubs that he's worth any reasonable offer. Not this year anyhow.

  10. Never been a huge Maloney fan until the auskick clinic on Wednesday. Was having a kick with my boy, he's 6, about 20 mins after the clinic. After I pin pointed a pass onto my boys chest was surprised to see Brent lay a bear hugging tackle on the little guy. Lifted him off his feet. Both had ear to ear grins as Brent walked away. I suspect my sons smile lasted the longer of the two, however Maloney looked happy, and seemed to appreciate my sons love of the red and blue. Got me thinking, just possibly, he's a good person. 2011 b & f, poor year so far, but perhaps deserves more time to impress the coach than some of his team mates. Hope he finds some form soon

  11. I'd say Sellar and Dunn will play fwd and try to expose Carlton against taller type fwds. Problem being Sellar and Dunn couldn't catch a cold, Clark is still the only guy down there who can mark. Apologies to Howe, dosen't count because his marks are quickly followed up by poor disposal. Clark also the only player likely to chase or lay a tackle or pressure running defenders. Just wonder if McDonald will go forward this week.

  12. Seems to be one of the few this year who has taken steps to changing his ways. Think he'll be made to work hard by Neeld, and it'll be good for him. Number in the team who are still being gifted their spots. We're a poor team, all on the list will get plenty more opportunities before the end of year delistings. I doubt anyone's papers are stamped just yet, perhaps Green is locked into retirement but that's it I'd say.

  13. Think you can add Luke TAPSCOT to your list, Tynan and even Viney have got injuries early in their first year at the club. Col GARLAND too missed alot with a foot injury early on. Is this why players are not developing at the rate that players do from other clubs?
