As the truth began to emerge in the final days, and the press releases and actions of the club became more and more disconnected with reality, I was very angry at Don and co for the mess they made of things, but I find it impossible to believe that these people wanted anything less than the best for the club. Egos may have over ruled common sense, and there was a very real rot from the core, but these things didn't happen in a vacuum. This whole ugly mess was a good decade in the making, and a reasonable amount of the chaos was because we (the lot of us) were trying to become a professional outfit, without any real idea what one looked like. I think that there was a fair bit of spade work done in the last couple of years that will benefit us in the future, but it was probably done to quickly, too ruthlessly and too inefficiently for the effects to be anything but painful in the short term. Maybe we just need to take a step back while the wounds are still raw, and have another look at the ugly years five or so years from now.

New Major Sponsor: Automotive Holdings Group (AHG)
Carrot Top replied to Demon3's topic in Melbourne Demons
Looking to spend 30 - 35K on a car sometime in the next 12 months, and hadn't heard of this mob until today. I wonder if I can get them to knock 20% off the price because I'm an MFC member? -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - AIDAN RILEY
Carrot Top replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
Why? Do you get extra points for being right? Do you get to stand up to thundering applause at the end of the year as you proclaim "I told them to keep a lid on it" Man, if I can't dream in November then I'm walking away from this sad club, because November dreams are as close as I get from footy joy these days. You don't want to play make believe, then don't. But don't [censored] on the rest of us because we do. -
I love that one. Everytime I'm talking to Yanks and they start frothing on about how great their world is I tell 'em to stop drinking their own bathwater. They get all quietly weird after that. Makes me think they have no idea what I'm saying so they say nothing rather than look foolish.. I'd offer the same advice to Collingwood supporters but we all know that 1) they don't have baths (or a sponging), and 2) even if they accidentally did then it would be cruel and unusual punishment to convince someone drink said bathwater. I have no idea if I'd go to jail for convincing a Colllingwood supporter to commit suicide via bathwater, but I don't want to find out in case I find out just why 99% of Collingwood supporters prefer showers.

If I was Chip I wouldn't even look at anything Melbourne put on the table until around July. For all the Roos hoopla (and I really want to believe in it) we are still a dysfunctional basket case until we prove otherwise.

Interesting, and about what I figured without thinking about it too deeply. We added some depth and class to the mids, but we didn't suddenly get a midfield of A+ graders, Viney, Toumpas and #9 and still babies, and we were coming from a veeeeeery long way back. I'll be happy to see us win a couple we didn't expect, fight out a couple more, and start to gel as a team that enjoys playing together. Everything else will be a bonus.

About 3/4's of the way through a bottle of Jack, I'd say. Classy as always, Robbo.
-
Lol. How does that medicine taste?
-
Yeah, but they also trolled themselves with Buckley.
-
True. I probably should have added a 'very' or three.

WWF, and has been since the mid eighties. You can pull your hair out or howl at the moon about it all you want, but it is what it is, and it's not going to change any time soon. The only thing we have in our power to change is whether we want to be viewed as Hulk Hogan or The Masked Schmuck who is slapped around for the crowds entertainment. And we all know that there is only one way to decide that.

Ordinary player in ordinary side confused as to why he is delisted.

Screw the AFL. And screw this whining sense of entitlement we have. If we play football that is AFL standard people will come to watch and we won't need handouts. If we don't even the Lord God above wouldn't be able to save us.

A crumbing forward, my kingdom for a crumbing forward
Carrot Top replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Bloody Hell. I didn't realise picking Vince gave us another recruiter. -
The pick we got from Col was probably the best thing he ever gave the club.
-
Depending on how many spots we want to free up I reckon it would go in that order.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - DANIEL CROSS

The [censored] Barrett disapproves? Good. We must be doing something right. -
Have some faith. He isn't worth pick 9 to even a drunk recruiter.

Wins will do that. Warm fuzzy BS just sucks the life out of us. I believe nothing coming out of this club right now. I can't. For the best part of a decade I've been sold Florida swampland and I have no faith left. Play with G&D. Win some games. That's the only message I'm going to be looking for or listening to.

Ahh man, don't be like that. The PSD is the magical cure all to every ill we have: need a player and don't want to give up picks? PSD! Coach not performing? PSD! Looking for a sponsor? PSD! Want to impress men and score with the woman? PSD PSD PSD! We don't have much. Leave us with our dreams.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BERNIE VINCE

I liked Col, and I'll miss him, but I have potplants in my back yard that have more brainpower than him.
