The Incredible Hulk - Jesse Hogan
He stated a couple of days ago that you've got to get your talent from the draft. He's been burnt by FA and traded in injury prone players. I reckon his view on McCarthy has changed to one of thinking he's a bit of a pillock by staying in WA and training with east Freo and clearly burning his bridge to GWS. Turning his attention to Hogan is illogical imo because you'll have a jet CHF surrounded by a group of L platers. He's there until 2020 so we'll see how it pans out.

There was a bit on ch 10 over here last night about Hooker, McCarthy and Hogan but the kids were screaming so I didn't hear it. But honestly, if Hogan leaves us for Freo I would be gobsmacked. Lyon has proved once again he is a coach who rides in on the coat tails of previous coaches development Proceeds to decimate the list whilst chasing a flag Freo's list is full of only average players that can't execute an attacking game plan (Jesse would love that reduction inside 50's I bet) Bennell can't get on the park Neale probably leaving Walters the only decent small forward Fyfe doubtful Fortnightly travel I could go on but if you care to reflect these items against what we have to offer and include his desire to be a great player in a team with so much potential for success well, I consider it'd be an extremely dumb decision for him to leave.

Listened to the broadcast of the NAB game over here last night on Grandstand. The commentators were quite effusive with how the Dockers will sign both McCarthy and Hogan. To quote one commentator who said, "the fact that Jesse Hogan has put off contract talks just screams to me that he's coming home." Clearly they're a parochial mob over here and logic is rarely included into these types of conversations. They did continue to say that Freo will most likely slide after this season but then make another run for a flag in 4 to 5 years time - "just when Hogan and McCarthy will be in their prime," they said.

Not sure if this link has been posted before. Roos confirming the club also thought it best to postpone talks until end of season. Interesting that apparently 'others' out of contract are awaiting Hogan extending before resigning... McDonald and...? http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/teams/melbourne/paul-roos-says-melbourne-agreed-to-put-jesse-hogan-contract-talks-off-until-seasons-end/news-story/cf578526fceee79b8767436ac126642e?from=herald%20sun_rss

I'm a born and raised Victorian but love it over here. That said I still feel the pull of home every so often. Jesse is a competitor and wants a flag. In the grand scheme of things I truly believe we have a better core of youngsters to help him achieve that compared to Freo. I reckon they'll really slide this year.

Which I find a little amusing to be honest. When did he leave Perth? He was a 17 year old and has spent the last 3 to 4 years in Melbourne. Sure he's had opportunities to experience Perth as an adult but not in the same way as Melbourne. Perth has heaps to do and a much nicer climate to do it in.

It's more than that. All of those players were inducted into the MFC when the environment and culture was beginning its long and gradual erosion. Having the desire to perform well is one thing but if the workplace culture is shytes and giggles, it sets you up for failure. We bagged Scully at the time but if we are true to general commentary of that era, there's little wonder he was unimpressed - millions aside. JT is a competitor but was guided by loyalty, the same with Grimes. Its the development versus talent argument. You need to provide the environment to bring out the fierce competitor in people. We have that now.

For me, it's clearly a by-product of the standards Viney is setting and the culture the club is trying to foster. I can remember watching training under Bailey and Neeld and the players were stuffing about by playing tricks and games on one-another throughout the session and individual drills. Where's your head at when you're behaving like that? What you do at training.... No wonder the coaches keep reinforcing the behaviour rhetoric. Viney could've been given instruction to ruffle Tommys feathers for all we know. The more competitive the team becomes, the more battle hardened individuals will need to become.
