PODCAST: Rd 13 vs Collingwood
Love the podcast, excellent work all. One topic that has barely been mentioned is May's kickout with 1.44 remaining. Why kick long to a contest? Presumably we were confident of winning by then, but I would have though the only thing to do would be to chip it around, short and safe, for at least 90 seconds. Going long to a contest gave the Pies a sniff, and that was all they needed to almost pinch the win. Thoughts?

PREGAME: Rd 15 vs Geelong
It does make me think about the long term future of Kardinia Park as an AFL ground. If the Cats play "big" games in Melbourne (eg Easter Monday vs Hawks), then all that is left are "small" games at their ground. Surely we have to go all in on a small number of major venues (ie 9 Victorian clubs at 2 major stadiums rather than 8 or 9 individual grounds) or Geelong play all home games, without exception, in Geelong. The crowd on a Thursday night at Geelong is in danger of being outnumbered by seagulls ...

POSTGAME: Rd 13 vs Collingwood
As someone said earlier, 16 points up with less than 2 minutes to go and us with ball in hand at a kick-in should mean that the opposition doesn't touch the ball again. Chip kicks and switches galore should have been the order of the day. We got there in the end, but heart palpitations should have been unnecessary!

It is a lot easier now than in many seasons. But I doubt it will ever be easy (unless one day we top Collingwood's cakewalk with the first ever run of five premierships in a row. We can revisit this issue then ... ๐)

I may be just old-fashioned, but I always take all my rubbish with me to the nearest bin on the way out. Is it too much to expect crowds to behave like responsible adults? I find it frustrating that it seems socially normal just to drop litter all over the place because it might be slightly inconvenient otherwise ... (and I guess that confirms that I am indeed old-fashioned).- PREGAME: Rd 05 vs Essendon

Personally, given that it is a mess any which way you cut it, I would say if the ball hits the padding it has hit the post, but the actual goal line is the vertical plane extending directly upwards from the line marked on the grass. So the line for touching adjudication for the Fritta non-goal would be closer to the centre of the ground than the back of the padding (just the width of the post becomes an issue for hitting the post, but not otherwise). Even better -- it is only a goal if it is clearly a goal. Otherwise, if there is even the slightest doubt, it is a point. In this case, much though we wouldn't like it, Fritta's kick was touched as it was not clearly a goal.- Training Ground?
