  1. The premiership is a great vaccination against MFCSS, but I would like a booster in late September ...
  2. All too true just now, it seems ... https://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/1130811/viney-to-miss-roos-clash
  3. He also had his right boot off after the siren.
  4. My take on it was that he was expecting a Hawthorn defender to come at him while he was watching the ball. Not part of his highlight reel, but something for which he would rightly be expected to shepherd for, even though in this case the best thing to do would have been get out of its way and watch it go through.
  5. I remember hearing somewhere that the 7.50 Friday start is due to the popularity of a program that finishes at 7.30. We hardly need any more proof that TV runs the game ... So I suspect the real reason is "TV schedules" more than anything else.
  6. On a marginally related topic, every Dees fan should, when in New York, make a pilgrimage to the George Cohan statue in Times Square. You may not have heard of him; he is an American composer (albeit perhaps not all that famous). But you have definitely sung a song of his, called "You're a Grand Old Flag" with some slightly different words ...
  7. I have come to know Happy Street rather well in the past six months ...
  8. Get Max over there to spew on a couple and that should sort it ... 😋
  9. You never know ... perhaps the premiership cup contains a fountain of eternal youth? 😃
  10. Thanks Ash. I grew up watching the Dees, and Robbie was often the only reason to remember anything from the games. I had forgotten that he had played briefly in the same team as Lyon, Stynes and Viney. I am also still staggered how he went to centre half-forward in a state game as captain of Victoria and thrashed Ross Glendinning, who was no mug at all, and about twice Robbie's size. The marks, the long runs, and those left-handed bounces ... perhaps the only player from that era who could walk into the 2021 team and pick just about any spot. Wouldn't be a sight to see Robbie, Trac and Clarry all in the same team?
  11. You know better than that Redleg. There is only one way to 'rail' this thread, and that is getting dangerously close!
  12. True, but Sydney got as close as you can get without doing so (loss by 1 point in 2006).
  13. Trac's dribbler goal by a short half-head. That was the most difficult kick, executed beautifully at a critical time, and the one that would be the most difficult to repeat. Gus's goal was also up there, mainly for effort to take the mark. The set shot was basically one that he should kick every single day of the week. I find I really missed being at the game the most for the final two goals of the third term. I love it when there is a big involved crowd, and there is a centre break like those, as the whole crowd senses what is about to happen, and leans forward in anticipation. Then when it all unfolds like that with a high-speed, high-energy perfect execution, it is hard not to jump for joy due to the sheer excitement. So Trac's was the best, but the other two got he fists pumping ...
  14. Bit of a violent streak there Ernest, even for you. Maybe it is time to cut back on the booze for a bit and focus on banana bread ...
  15. Time to drop an MFC membership form anonymously in the letter box, followed up by a 'Demons are Premiers' poster the next day.
  16. So when was the chariot race? 😇 And Frank Thring's handkerchief? 🤣
