  2. Sacrilege! This will breathe new life into its!
  3. Are you saying we are Gawn? 😅
  4. Steven Kong in charge of the Demons? Other clubs be afraid, be VERY afraid! đŸ¤Ŗ
  5. I don't know why but I recall hearing rumours that as Robbie's loyalty was a given, it was sometimes manipulated to give the B&F to someone else to ensure that they stayed. What I think is even a bigger bilght is that Robbie never won a Brownlow in an era when Keith Greig won two in succession and Peter Moore also won two (with Robbie third behind him in 1984). So Robbie was robbed! IIRC we won only one game in 1981, Barassi's first year as Melbourne coach. And guess who it was who took a speccy in a pack in the goal square to kick the winning goal in the last minute or so of the game ... A classic captain's goal if there ever was one.
  6. Gawn is certainy up there, but Robbie Flower is near impossible to dethrone as the greatest Demon for me. He had the loyalty and never-say-die attitude of Nathan Jones, the skill and poise equal to few if any in the league today (think Pendlebury's decision-making and sense of space, Kozzy's pace and the kicking skills of Bailey Dale/Touk Miller/whoever), the versatility to play just about anywhere apart from the ruck, and courage in spades, especially from a bloke who was as skinny as a rake and always seems to be the little brother playing with the big boys. If you were picking the Melbourne Team of the past 100 seasons, Robbie would be the first name picked, with Gawn as first ruck and Barassi as one of the midfielders. Who would be the captain is another interesting debate ...
  7. You would probably have to explain that reference to most on here BB ...
  8. The real question is whether they are bananaless ...
  9. Mate, whatever has possessed you, shake it off! Shake it off! 😀
  10. Shouldn't be a problem for us demons :-)
  11. I am not sure that I follow this. I see that any footballer would rather miss 5 home and away games rather than any final. But this not about what the players want; it is about what is fair for a given offence. Put another way, when Kossie got rubbed out for three weeks in Round 1 of 2023, are you saying that he should have only got one or two weeks if he had done the same thing to a Collingwood player in the first final? It seems to me (an ignorant non-lawyer) that this is the first step on the road to the situation where Barry Hall doesn't get rubbed out for a Grand Final after thumping someone simply because "he would miss a Grand Final".
  12. Great title for a country & western song ...
  13. It would be even more fun if he coached us to a 'cake walk breaker' of five flags in a row from2026 to 2030! (okay, okay a Demon can dream, can't he? 😆)
  14. And Leigh Matthews (the [censored]!) who won flags at his first and second clubs as coach ... (gee that was hard to type!)
  15. Some good signs, but same old result in a close game! When will we win one of these? Also, great effort from Sam Darcy in the last minute, but no way was that a mark!
  16. There is a saying that conspiracy is less likely than a stuff up. Looks like the MRO is more of the latter, given the blatant inconsistency between the May incident and this one.
  17. Agreed. But the victim plays for Collingwood so the MRO will probably give him 8 weeks....
  18. If Horse is rhe favourite, does that mean Buckley has Buckley's? 😁
  19. The previous time we sacked a coach was Mark Neeld. I think we all thought that was the right decision at the time, and since then have had a premiership (admittedly 8 years after the sacking). So sometimes it works ...
  20. Was it just me, or did others think the same when Goody said he would miss giving George Gawn a bag of lollies after we win? My thought was "You stingy bugger Goody!"
  21. Unfortuantely there is plenty of precedent -- just not one that makes any sense. The precedent seems to be about whether you play for certain clubs, are a star player and on the media's "good bloke" list, and the stage of the season. Any resemblance between similar incidents and their outcomes is purely accidental ☚ī¸
  22. I noticed a few times yesterday that Gawn would let JVR or Petty take a ruck contest in the forward 50 while he stayed a kick behind the play. Is this something new? I must say I like the idea if it means preserving Max for a season or two longer. As he showed yesterday, he can kick a goal, but that is better left to specialist forwards IMHO.
  23. The vomit one will do for this ... 😃
  24. IMHO he should have got a lot more. Deliberately elbowing a defenceless opponent in the head when being held on the ground? And not even being involved in the tackle? A lot of potential for serious damage there. But unfortunately we have all come to expect nonsense from the AFL ...
  25. Can we just call Gleeson "The Goose" from now on? ☚ī¸ BB, you can get your geese on any time you like ... 😃
