The club doesn't throw away its depth, the depth leaves for other opportunities.  If we look back 12 months Jordan, Harmes and Grundy sitting at Casey, they had chances to cement spots but couldn't.

To me it's nothing to do with fringe players, Viney, Oliver, Petty, Salem, Fritsch, Langdon, Billings have been terrible, May is stuffed playing on smaller running forwards looks slow, Tmac is limited,  B Brown is cooked, no Brayshaw, no Melksham.

Petty had a big price last year, would be lucky to get a third round pick for him.

We are slow both ball movement slow and leg speed slow or we just don't work hard enough to defend.

The one trade we need to consider is 2 first round picks for Oliver, we can't keep going with the same midfield group and Petracca is our must keep, Oliver is the only other one that has any trade value.  Get your 2 first round picks, go after Yeo as free agent to fill the gap for a couple of years.

i think people are forgetting how good clayton was just12-18 months ago. He has had no pre season at all, and is now starting to accumulate the ball again, albeit stil rusty.

We owe it to ourselves to give him a full pre season and reevaluate next year, we have put in the ahrd work to get him back playing, lets see if we can reap the rewards

    Why are we talking about?

Oliver got incredibly ****ty at Rivers for not short passing it to him, Oliver was basically stationary 15-20m in front, he was spewing about it.

Not sure if the game plan is to pass short to the 50 or not when we are slow playing it but he was very disappointed he didnt get the ball.

Just my weekly post gently asking that the one player who hasn't had an ineffective disposal in 2 weeks be given a go more around the ball. Our mids are not just butchers they can't 'solve the puzzle' of where or to whom the next possession should go. At one point I saw Oliver remonstrating with him about his decision making and disposal which was peak irony.

I saw that too cause he wouldn't pass to him

McDonald is retiring at seasons end. It would take a monumental change in heart to go around next year.

Personally I think the lack of key forwards who can ruck is a weakness of ours. As Binman pointed out on another thread, using our best prospect in JVR as a backup ruckman is not ideal. Other teams have shown, having a hulking aggressive backup ruck can do well at AFL level and this kid could fit the bill.

It also points to the changes going into next year. McDonald, BBB & Schache are out. Petty is still a chance to leave at seasons end while Jefferson and Fullerton are both still unproven. Better to get another prospect in early and see if we can get him up to speed prior to the preseason.

    has he said hes retiring?

Are you specifically talking about scores per i50 or overall scores for, or both?

In that period we had much greater scores against in both categories. Subsequently we spent big on KPDs not KPFs, and we modified our style to become the best defensive team in the league and that has had a negative flow on effect to our scoring metrics, but as @rjay observes, our ladder position has improved overall.  Chaplin looks like a genius and Stafford has suffered for the cause.

As has been widely noted, this year we're trying to rebalance the ledger to score more but without sacrificing fundamental defence-first and it's a work in progress.

No our scoring efficieny inside 50.

Yes we have had a defence first mindset but our forward structure imo has been completely lacking. At games our fwd line doesn’t move, they stick hands in the air etc. it’s incredibly frustrating.

love Stafford but I’d rather keep him as a ruck coach and get fresh eyes in

Anyone who thinks for even a millisecond that Stafford will be shown the door needs to think again, but this time for longer than a millisecond. 😁 He ain’t goin’ nowhere. No Siree Bob. Just ain’t  gonna happen. Therefore folks need to get used to seeing the man-mountain at the club for some time yet. 😃👍🏽❤️💙

i love him at the club, but our forward line ever since he took over this role has been putrid, no matter who we put down there. so this has to fall on him imo.

Taj is incredibly stiff, it's pretty rough to give a bloke a full game who's shown next to nothing in the 2's over a kid who's been playing quite well in the 1's

totally agree, Hunter has been average at Casey

What makes no sense is why, if Gawn is in doubt, did we take Fullerton off the emergency list and we don’t have Verrell listed either?

Gawn is fine he was testing the strapping on his leg if it was too tight or not. all good here

Plays for a little country town in the Central Vic wheat belt... Tyntynder. Last year he played for Bacchus Marsh after moving over from WA where he played for Peel Thunder. (He has been around)

He kicked six goals from the midfield last week

    So, question.

If every player carrying an injury is rested, and every player returning from injury comes via Casey, then we will need to play a 10 man side.

T McD I believe has been quoted as saying he will not be played forward as his foot / ankle limitations prevents him from running on a lead or flying for a mark.   Yes, if that is the case maybe he shouldn't be playing, but as above who can we play in his place?

Second year in a row we have scored a succession of unrelated injuries to most of our tall forward options and many of our tall backs.  Someone has to run out onto the field for us.  Who?

Tmac said his body wasnt allowing him to play the fwd role and was getting him injured all the time. now his body is right maybe its time to give him another go whilst we can?

With Brayshaw retiring is Sam Van Rooyen available for the mid season draft?

if not, surely there’s a key forward out there somewhere!! There has to be another James Podsiadly lurking in the state leagues!

Sam is actually no good not sure why this was even posted or mentioned. hes playing in the wafl reserves
