  1. Turn down the sound and just watch the game. Miss out on ads and all the crap commentary. Most commercial commentators only state the obvious and look for an opportunity to plug a product. Having said some are good. The Guy found dead in his Apartment was fantastic and most ABC Commentators. SEN are shockers same as all commercial radio stations. They are only beating the drum of Carlton and United this and Sportsbet that. Treat us like Canon Fodder. The MUTE button is very worn on my remote:)

Mick's comments about Watts were very close to the bone and contentious at the same time-maybe to close for some. Watts has got promise no doubt about it but he does hang back a little. I think that will change. He was terrific v Tigers last year. The first game :)

    Clinton Grybas is his name.

  2. I am an MCC/MFC member. I haven't renewed MFC but will soon. I rang them to see if I could swap the 6th scarf in a row for a cap which would be of some value to me. Many other clubs do caps instead of scarfs. I mean how many scarfs do you need. I live in Sydney and a cap can be used all year round. They said no but if I "donated" the scarf and the rest of the membership pack to the club I would get a $25 gift voucher which I can use if I spend over $50 at the demons shop. It really annoyed me and put me off renewing at the time. I still will before the season but the attitude sucks. I live in Sydney and the MFC full membership is a donation I make every year to support the club without getting any benefit. What does it cost them to swap the scarf for a cap.

Poor form from the club really. They continually badger supporters to jump on board as a member, even those who cannot afford it, yet they cannot offer a Sydney based support a cap instead of a scarf with their membership pack.

  3. If we're going to do something this year, we must learn to beat the middle of the road Vic clubs like St.Kilda, Bulldogs and North Melbourne.

I will hack losing to class sides like Carlton and Hawthorn but to lose to battlers like North without fail (since 06) every year shouldn't be tolerated anymore.

Totally agree; really need to win a few out of Richmond, North, Bulldogs, Saints, Essendon, and Sydney.

  4. Certainly positive signs, but I certainly agree with the "wait until the real season starts" mantra. We definitely had more eagerness to win the contested ball, and some of our rookies have been relevations so far. It has been a good pre-season thus far as we've been competetive and had no major injuries (touching wood).

Look forward to seeing how we go against the highly fancied Hawks.

  5. Another note of optimism...a lot was made of the discrepancies between the Dee's and the BL's marks and possessions. But Brisbane were just passing around the backline for most of the night and as a result, the inside 50's ended up about even..

A good call mate. Hindsight is, as they say, a beatuiful thing. The games were played in horrible conditions and there were plenty of good signs. This Saturday against the pies will be more interesting.

  6. Ha ha ha, funny stuff. Talking in front of a camera is quite hard. I tutor and lecture at uni, and it doesn't bother me much at all. When I was filmed doing an introduction (for an online unit, hence being filmed), I found it quite tough!

I 'spose it is a matter of practice I suppose.

  7. Live vision not great on iPad...vision keeps dropping out.

I was watching on Friday night and it dropped out quite a few times, though a refresh got the video stream back quickly.

I watched for about 90 minutes on Saturday night (GWS, Collingwood, WB) and it only cut out once. Also watched about 20 minutes last night with no problems.

I should note that it automatically cuts out after 60 minutes as you can only stream in 60 minute blocks for some reason, even though you can start streaming straight away.

The vision is only so/so, can be difficult to make out the numbers on the count down timer at times, although it was much better last night with the Ess v WC v Freo game.

Overall, I think it is worth the $50 for the entire season, which includes match summaries, press conferences and so on. It's a shame you cannot replay games and can only watch them live though.

  8. I watched the match highlights from Melbourne vs. GC from last year that was on the site still, and it was a pretty ordinary picture. I am hoping that the new games for this year will be better quality, considering they are asking us to pay for it.

Edit: just watched the current game on afl.tv (Geel vs. Syd) and it is watchable, but I am hoping the quality is improved once the 2012 season starts. Still good value for $50.

  9. Right now, I'd put both Trengove and Martin ahead of Scully, but that's just at the moment.

Scully had the knee problems last year and issues of knowing he would jump ship at the end of the year.

Giving that these two problems (perhaps the former, definitely the latter) should no longer plague him, he should have the capacity to play at this best more this year compared to last year.

We do, however, have to take into account the inexperience of the GWS team, which could go against him. Give it 10 years time and we'll be able to make a much more informed judgement about these three players. I am sure they will all be excellent in any case.
