Hi Megs. Are you confident that the Melbourne AFLW side will be able to keep the team together and reject lucrative offers from other clubs.

Good question.  On the recent AFLW Tagged Podcast, Ruby Schleischer also raised this issue.  Expecting movement.

Gold Coast are chasing our defender Charlotte Wilson and along with speedy father-daughter selection Jemma Rigoni joining us, there's 2 changes already.

Gemma Bastiani has written a piece here highlighting some of our weaknesses.

List management will inevitably result in some existing players moving clubs this offseason but hopefully none of the untouchables.

A big-bodied midfielder and a strong key defender would surely be on top of our shopping list.

This is the first year that I feel like what we added in personnel or game plan was consolidation rather than progress.

    Great post @Dees_In_October

100% concur with this particular statement.

Blaithin Mackin certainly one exception who has improved and Aimee looks a keeper.  Agree on Goldie too.  Our Irish contingent really stood up these last 3 ordinary weeks.

  4. 6.  Edo Z, was incredible with 5 marks, 5 goals and a poster.  BOG?

    5.  Gay, Maddi was strong all day and led our defensive group

    4.  Goldie, incredible energy and matched the Crows’ strength at the contest

    5. Hanksy, was in everything trying her best against the Crows’ behemoths

    6. Hore, moved into the middle by Mick to counteract their mid strength which reduced our forward power

Special mention to Lize Mac with 2 fantastic running goals.

Agree that a mix of Casey and Princes Park games is preferable. I also like that PP attracts a different crowd of Dees fans. We're also undefeated at PP from five starts and it's becoming the preferred finals venue.

Yes, those Ikon evening vibes have been an enjoyable experience for Dees fans.  Winning helps!

The Season 8 opener against the Pies on Friday September 1, with Bri Davey and Brit Bonnici returning, will be a cracker.

Will they run a practice game double header like they did last season?   Hope so.

Steven Baker gotta be the tagger.  He was suspended for 28 games in his career.

Retired from AFL, then got suspended for 6 weeks for rough conduct in a preseason game for Sorrento!

Had to be de-registered from all forms of football but he won his appeal.

Yes, he was an ‘Thug’.  Regularly terrorised Aaron Davey, a true Saint, and once KO’d The Whizz earning a 7 week suspension.

  7. The standard of footy tonight is terrific. Two Top 4 teams for sure.    Max Holmes looks a beauty.  What could’ve been.

Anyway it’s such a contrast to last night’s fumblefest.   Enjoying this entertainment.

  8. Meggs would argue that the AFLCA champion players award rating system has slightly more gravitas than Mr Robinson’s rambling prognostications.   So let’s not pay too much attention to him, Clarry should be no. 1.

    Previous ‘Demon’ winners of AFLCA:

    2022 Oliver / Miller,  2021 Oliver,  2018 Gawn and in 2006 Simon Goodwin 😉

Brisbane getting the rub of the green big time.

The umpires non call when it was clearly holding the ball allowed Brisbane to kick inside 50 and receive a 50:50 free and convert.  That’s the quarter time difference, a free kick.  Hopefully over the course of the game it evens out.

I think I'd rather get Adelaide in the QF and an easier preliminary final, than vice versa. Then hope that Adelaide can surprise Brisbane on the other side.

North are building ominously towards finals and will likely finish 4th (they should defeat Richmond next week).  Their Irish girls are slamming it, Wall is a beast, and Jazzy Garner is (close to) the best player in the league.

If we miss top spot (more likely than not) then Brisbane will have to play North.  The Lions 🦁 may well be surprised.

But we are building nicely too.  Our depth and skills and the evenness of our list has positioned us as genuine Season 7 contenders.

Just watched the Crows Geelong game. Crows scraped home by 2 points.

I don't think the Crows are at the same level this year at all. You can't write them off because they're a champion team but I don't think they can win it. It's us and the Lions I reckon

North look awesome this afternoon at Victoria Park against the Pies.  A 5-goal 2nd quarter and up 25 points at HT.  There’s still a half to play though.

Geelong have really improved so not surprised they did well.  Crows are still a threat but agree they are look inferior to the Season 6 version.

The doggies have had a soft run. they've beaten GWS, Freo, Port and the Hawks who are all siting in the bottom 6. They've been beaten by North and Geelong

We'll beat them handy I reckon.

    Agree @BDA

Meggs is in USA with no coverage unfortunately so will be appreciatively monitoring this thread for updates 😎
