I remember reading somewhere that coming off after kicking a goal was because there was about 2 or 3 mins between when the ball goes through the goals and when the field ump bounces the ball in the middle. So that's 2-3 extra mins that the player can rest where the ball is not in play. The theory perhaps being that the player who kicked the goal was the last to exert an effort, so needs the rest.

Thanks for putting your words into my mouth Ron.I'll base my comments on the reality that we effectively finished bottom last year, similar to the last 5 years. We haven't achieved anything except a shuffle of the deck chairs. Wins and losses count infinitely more than preseason over-optimism. I think that defines what Neeld was referring to as the 'reality bus'. But keep drooling over preseason if you wish. I'll wait till round 8 or 10. Cheers.

Good one. Thanks RR. Oh, god.... I just realised, we have another RR on Demonland. Please don't start any polls or begin banning posters for 'dubious' posts Rigoni Rigoni -

I know it might be after the fact, but given the Moorabbin ground was deemed not up to the AFL match day standard, has the club or the AFL done a risk assessment on the ground itself for training on? Has it been given the ok? St Kilda don't train there anymore. The decision to train there was made on the run this week, I believe. I hope the club has that covered, cause it would be pretty stupid to train on a substandard oval. -
What will be the benefit of naming this player? Lets be mature enough to not get into this gossip, regardless of guessing right or wrong. Give the kid a bit of privacy. It's what his family requested as part of the disclosure at the sumit. It was said at this gathering that every club has a drug issue, so whether this individual comes from us or not, we all have to deal with it to various degrees in a responsible manner.

No. Just trying to keep real, bing. I can no longer stand getting my hopes up unrealistically and then being crushed by round 5. I'll stick to boarding the reality bus. You can get on the Ferris wheel if you like

Lol. This joint is choc full of delusional optimists. Welcome to Groundhog Day 2013! A bunch of new kids, some veterans that other clubs discard, others on the slide elsewhere, all 'tearing it up' on the training track. Big year ahead. Heard it all before? And not a realistic supporter in sight. FFS, at least wait till round 8 or 10 before pumping up our tyres. Lol.

Would cinnabar be better?

I don't think you are flying normal altitude DL.

How bout two seasons per year, rpfc. Footy 12 mths of the year. Get rid of this 20/20 crapolla, tennis shmenish, etc.....
-
Editing quotes is bad form DL, especially when it is followed by such a lame response.Let me repeat to you in simple terms...... Buddy is a star, has been for a number of years, and he's only 25 yo. We have been terrible for 5yrs straight. To say we should not consider him (if it was to come up) because of rumours is sheer lunacy and arrogance. The fact that most betting agencies have him favourite to win this year's Coleman shows his best is not necessarily behind him. There are many great players I'd like to see in the red and blue in 2014. I wouldn't discount any based upon rumours. Whether they want to come to us is another matter.
-
Agreed, I'd have Cotchin over Buddy. But not sure I'd agree we are covered for forwards. Nevertheless, we now have a number of KPFs who (Clark excepted) are average or yet unproven. Howe will push into the midfield or up the wing increasingly. He's not a key fwd, IMO. I really hope Hogan is as good as you suggest PSD. I'd shout you many beers for your scouting prowess if he is.Not that I think that we are in the hunt for Buddy at all, but to simply say "no thanks" to a star 25 yo KPF (if the opportunity were to arose) is sheer lunacy without due dil. Edit: not saying that you made the 'no thanks' comment PSD

Geez, I'd love To see one of ours win 2 Colemans, kick a ton in a season, 4 x AA's, play FF in our next premiership and still only be 25 yrs old (26 in a few days). That's a substantial first half to a footy career, I'd say.
-
Get off the turps mate. You're rambling and making little sense.Buddy is an out and out star, has been for years. If the team that finished last amongst the established clubs last year (and has been terrible for the last 5) thinks it would pass on him if the opportunity came up, then we should fold now. He'd nearly pay for himself in extra memberships
-
I can't let that go by (even though it makes no sense, but I'll guess what the inference is). All rumours are yet to be substantiated, so I'll take him as innocent until proven. Besides all that, Buddy is currently one of the 3 best footballers in the game, if not the best. If he wanted to come to the Dees for the right deal, we'd be stark raving mad not to seriously explore the possibility, regardless of how we perceive our fwd strength ATM (which, I might add, is built on rose-colored hope more than reality). "No thanks" is perhaps the most simplistic response one could make if the opportunity came up. I'd love to see Buddy playing in the red n blue if he was keen to get on board, assuming it was the right deal, of course.

For Freo, rumours have it. Not us

I reckon Rivers opted for the change. As a FA he could go where he wanted, regardless of what our FD thought. I understood it that the FD wanted him to stay I think that Rivers opted for less $ and a shorter contract with Geelong, which is perhaps why he contributed so little to our comp pick. Moloney contributed SFA.

Buddy's in the mix too.

The tragic downfall of Liam Jurrah
Moonshadow replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
And how did that go this time Stuie? I would have thought that MFC would have made some small mention of a thanks if one was made. Good for both Liam and the club (not to mention us supporters). -
Agreed. Good point. Had forgotten that cap aspect.Sorry Dee-luded, don't agree at all with you. But like your women folk. Good distraction from from reading

I see what you are saying, yet he's on about $500k, cost a first round pick in a deep draft (pick 20) and will spend probably a lot of this season as our no 1 KPF until Clark returns to fitness. Maybe it's Dawes who needs support if Clark takes longer than expected. Neeld and Brown know him well and rate him highly...... higher than Buckley, it appears. They aggressively sought him out which says that he must fit their plan well. I'd love him to rip open game 1 and have a really good year. He's a top bloke, from all accounts. But I'll need more than that before I get a hard on. Apologies for digressing the thread.

Make sure we bl00dy well get his loan money back before he leaves.

Terrific report guys. Really appreciate when stuck at work. How was Judy Garland travelling on the track? -
It's worth noting that a lot of posters here (and Dee fans in general) thought we dodged a very large bullet when we failed to get Dawes last time. I know the circumstances are different, in that we also have Clark and (in 2014) Hogan as KPFs. I'm just wondering if in all the rose colored preseason hype, we are forgetting that he's really only had one half decent season (2010), in a premiership team full of class midfielders funnelling the ball to him on a plate as the 2nd tall fwd. If Clark does't play till mid year, Dawes is largely it for us, in terms of KPF.
