Cal was on SEN today, saying that we might split 8 today or Wednesday. He mentioned for 15 & 20. Not sure how to feel about that. I have to assume we get Weightman at 15?

It’s pick 10 now. So that would be a trade with Gold Coast then. I wonder who we’re targeting with those picks.

Can effectively rule out any of Young/Ash/Stephens and probably Kemp will be gone by then too.

Kemp and Weightman would be ideal with 15 and 20.

Use 28 on a small forward. There will likely be a few out of Pickett, Taylor, Williams, Cahill available at this pick. Would prefer Taylor of that lot.

Alternately draft a half back like Gould, Bianco, Rivers if we think they slide.

Realistically though this pick is going to be a small forward. Would be staggered if it's not.

Probably won’t be a small forward if we take Weightman at 10 though.

However, I think it’s likely we split 10.

The latest phantom draft from Jay Clark @ the Herald Sun.

If correct, Dees rate Weightman very highly..

While I don’t like it, I actually think Clark is on the money here. Be very prepared that it’s Jackson and Weightman that we take with our first two picks.

I think a bid for Henry will come within the first 13 picks which Clark hasn’t factored in though.

I don’t really follow much of the draft stuff but what are the chances we get both Green & Kemp ?

    I would say extremely low.

We could potentially draft both if we wanted to as it appears that GWS would not match our bid on Green in favour of Jackson. However it’s sounding like we will be taking Jackson at pick 3 and not bidding on Green.

At pick 10 it’s sounding as though we are most interested in one of Young/Ash/Stephens/Weightman. If we split pick 10 then we might be a chance of landing Kemp but personally I think he will be out of our reach if we were to do that.

I for one would be very pleased with Green and Kemp but just don’t see it happening.

I've been told by a few people that the player we have in mind for pick 10 is Dylan Stephens.

we apparently are concerned with Ash's disposal under pressure? maybe some of the draft watches can confirm this.

Caleb Serong is in the mix as well but Stephens is the one we really like.

i don't see us splitting the pick again.

If we’re worried about Ash’s disposal then surely Serong is not in the mix.

I tend to agree, but I am just passing on what I have heard  around the traps.

but there are other needs for those clubs, so there is a belief that stephens may fall to us.

Have you heard anything about the potential pick swap with Geelong?

Yeah you'd think that's what the deal would be should it happen.

If that is the scenario then I’d say Weightman would be a definite for one of those picks.

With us seemingly cooling on Young at pick 3 in favour of Jackson or Green, I wonder whether we would be targetting  Gould with pick 17. He would likely be gone by pick 28.

Hoping to split pick 8 into 10+22.

Take Young/Jackson at 3. We could then use 10 to grab whoever is left out of Kemp, Serong, Stephens, Ash etc. 22 can then be used on a small forward such as Weightman, Taylor or Pickett.

A combination of those 3 players being added to the list would be a great draft period for us.

Add Langdon, Tomlinson and Bennell, and it's a good off-season!

Yeah would be happy with that outcome.

Specifically Young, Kemp and Weightman would be my dream result.

Reasonably confident that Kemp would still be there at 10 but less confident on Weightman at 22.

Ruckman as very early draft picks are scary...and mixed. Josh Fraser, mishandled by Malthouse and failed to meet expectations. Jeff White, fantastic until rule changes limited his impact. Any others?

    Nic Natanui goes alright.

I was chatting to a friend who supports Carlton and he was saying they're quite keen on Serong at pick 9. he said though there is pretty strong word that there may be some behavior/attitude concerns with him which is why he may slide a little bit, has anyone else heard this?

Think it’s all on-field stuff. Can get caught up in the heat of the moment and lose his cool giving away frees and 50 metre penalties.

    Don’t think there’s any off-field issues though.

Much more to a player's make up than just disposals and accuracy but FWIW...

    From the u18 Nats (numbers in parenthesis - DE% = total disposals, KE% & HB% = average disposals)...

                    DE%           KE%           HB%

    Young  79.5 (88)   75.0 (16)     91.7 (6)

    Rivers  77.0 (87)   69.8 (10.8)  84.1 (11)

    Gould  69.8 (86)   67.9 (14)     73.3  (7.5)

    Sharp  69.0 (84)   60.0 (13.8)  86.2 (7.3)

Would you happen to have Ash’s stats breakdown as well?

Sorry if this has been mentioned elsewhere but someone mentioned there had been discussion in the media that Anderson was not a lock at 2 and might fall to us as GCS will nominate Green at 2 and GWS won't match.

    Has anyone else heard this?

    Magical if true.

I think the question is do we think Hayden Young is supremely better than other prospects, considering that Jackson will be gone by 8. If we take Jackson at 3, perhaps we feel one of the players we’ll also want will be there at 8 anyway. Assume the following

    1. Rowell - GC

    2. Anderson - GC

    3. Jackson - Melb

    4. Green - matched bid GWS

    5. Young - Adel

    6. Flanders - Sydney

    7. Robertson - Freo

    8. Serong/Ash/Kemp

it’s also possible that Young slips to number 8 if Adelaide and Sydney like other prospects, whereas there’s zero chance Jackson gets past pick 7.

Stephens has been linked to Adelaide so they may very well pick him in which case Young could still be there at pick 8.

Will all of Adelaide, Sydney and Freo pass on Young though? Would think that’s unlikely.

Freo could probably land Robertson with pick 10. They would be praying no bids come for Henry until after pick 10 and if that were the case, they would be well placed to pick Young at 7 if both Sydney and Adelaide haven’t already picked him.
