I want the likes of Ben Kennedy, Wagner and JKH to mention but 3 to keep improving and putting their hand up. I don't see these three ( and others) as locks for the team. What it means is the likes of Petracca, Kent and Hunt who are ahead of these 3 have to perform. It contrasts with the days when we all knew that players got games because there was no one else to put in the team. We knew it and I am tipping the players knew it.

I love that Jones has taken him under his wing. A good club has the players driving their own improvement, the coaches driving the players to improve but importantly, the players driving each other to improve. I don't think that Gus could learn from anyone better how to prepare for the game and how to eek the most of the talent you are given. (I sit in the camp that Jones does not have elite talent. What Jones does have is the ability to consistently play to the maximum that his talent allows him. That is far more important than raw talent as we have seen over too many years that there is huge difference between having lashings of talent and being able to bring that talent to the table consistently)

What you learn on Demonland - thanks Daisy... A tu quoque argument 1/ Have looked it up and now know what it means 2/ Goal for the week is to use it in conversation ( can you call someone a tu quoque'ist ?)

Training - Wednesday 11 January, 2017
nutbean replied to Straight Sets Simon's topic in Melbourne Demons
I like this - The "Hawthorns" don't allow their teammates any leeway - you want the players driving each other and not allowing each oher to put in half arsed efforts -
and only Chunk getting the footy in those photos - seems about right.

hey..up until this thread, I thought an ottoman was something I put my feet on. Then they got renamed in Australia to "poofs" then they got renamed back to ottomans for reasons unclear to me.

If you want to talk history why stop at 2 thousand years ? Go back another 100-1000 years. There is more than one claimant to that patch of turf.

Went to absolute sensational gig at the Caravan Club on Saturday night - Gregory Page - solo. Only 40 people in the audience - must be the time of the year. He was captivating and made you feel he was singing to you and you alone. ( any Sydney'ites - he is on at Leadbelly Newton on the 12th Jan - if roots ( if 1930's jazz is your thing - he is the bomdiggety)

This will just about do it.

i dream of being normal....alas.....sigh...

I must have missed the part where H threatened to sue the club - I do remember it being reported in the paper and then being debunked by Josh Mahoney

The meeting or the coffee ?

I'm was a big fan of Dawes because of his second and third efforts , his commitment to the contest and what seemed to be his not stop endeavor. But by by his own admission "he was embarrassed" about his time at Melbourne. His body definitely did not let him get the best out of himself, and at the time of trading him in we were struggling to get anyone to come to the club but the inescapable truth is that he was not a good buy for us.

apply it to your sore fetlock and you will be running in the Melbourne cup in no time

bongo still does "skyhooks" shows around the palce and his lead singer is a girl whose name escapes me. My squeeze went to one of the gigs and said if you shut your eyes it sounded identical to Shirley

couldn't agree more - no matter what the system or the label we chose for it - power corrupts and draws people in like magnets

To me it depends on how the Weed progresses. Our two locks for tall forwards are Hogan and Watts. That leaves the Weed, Smith and Pedo ( and Hulett ) as the third option and possibly a bench option - 4 talls ? . The only issue for me with this is who gives Gawn a chop out when he needs it ? Watts ? Frost ? Of the remaining options only Pedo is ok as a ruck.

What a stinker of a year. Andrew Sachs better known as Manuel from Fawlty Towers passed away. His interactions with John Cleese are unparalleled comic genius, RIP

It is interesting on Hogan. From all I am reading on here you can't help but think that the whole "will i go, will i stay" affected his footy last year more and more as the year went on. I guess it is different for each player as Dangerfield didn't seem to miss a beat in his last season at Adelaide having to make his season end decision (maybe he had no decision to make - his mind was made up).

you do realise the amount of work that goes into the legs in preseason ? It would surprise me with what Trengove has gone through over the last 2-3 seasons if he wasn't handled gently. Different players are loaded differently and I sure that there is a special roadmap for Trengove. Also - for the record - Being in the rehab group, running laps, being in the gym only does not necessarily indicate injury. The sports scientists have individually mapped out programs for each player and being in the rehab group could mean nothing more than a light load session.

He has been dead for years - it's just no-one has told him yet.

If anyone has seen my sense of humor please return it to Nutbean ( it may have something to do with having to relocate a warehouse interstate - a 4 month project which i need to do before Xmas)
-
I would read zero into his previous absence - one thing all league clubs are transparent on - if you miss a training session without knowledge/permission of the club then it is not kept a secret - it is in the paper in a flash and the leadership group hands down penalties.

damned if you do, damned if you don't
