  1. Love this pic - brothers in arms.
  2. Of course he will - his underwater helicopter emergency rescue situation skills are elite. Brisbane's pitch was hilarious, with Schwab basically saying "we're so bad you'll probably get a game with us".
  3. This is one to put on the watch-list. Won the B&F this year for the Mandurah Mustangs in WA a few weeks ago - in their Year 8 team. Don't know too much else about him at this stage... except that he happens to be the son of the Wizard. Wish we had a pic of him like we did of a very young Billy Stretch, but this will have to do for the time being. http://i.imgur.com/bKAya7F.png Updated Photos: http://resources2.news.com.au/images/2011/05/21/1226060/175382-cloudstreet-jeff-farmer.jpg
  4. You're a pretty hard taskmaster, Adam, although to be fair I've only seen them in action once this year.
  5. It's amazing how close their numbers are at the moment. Wiz: 249 games / 483 goals Eddie: 253 games / 479 goals
  6. Yep, a pretty good start to the season for the Reds, Macca, considering their tough draw, with wins away to Chelsea and Arsenal, the Foxes at home and a point at White Hart Lane. Klopp would be pretty happy with that return.
  7. Is this a cut-and-paste job or are you typing these responses out individually?
  8. .. so you spend your days 'regularly' driving past an all-girls school? ... ummmm ...
  9. Pretty good game at Old Trafford once Mourinho's men actually got going, by which time they were already 2-0 down. Ibrahimovic will be ruing what should have been an absolute gimme for his second right on half time, but didn't realise how much time and space he had for the shot. As it is, his goal means he has now scored in a string of top European derbies, including for Barca against both Real and Espanyol, the Milan derby for both Inter and AC, the Italia derby between Inter and Juve, for Ajax against Feyenoord and for Paris Saint Germaine v Marseilles. Elsewhere, Liverpool and Spurs both won big while Gunners needed a last-minute winner to get past the Saints at home. Your boys continued their inauspicious start to the season, Macca, succumbing to Watford after being two goals to the good.
  10. You got the warning point because you continued to post about it after you'd been asked to stop. We took the initial decision to keep news of Jesse's dad's illness off the boards because it hadn't been made public yet. This meant that the media either didn't know about it, or that if they did, they were respecting the wishes of the club and / or Jesse for it to remain private. We figured that if the information became public, it might add to the pressure he was already facing at a difficult time, and we didn't want to be responsible for that happening. It ultimately became impossible to monitor and delete every single post mentioning it. But the broader point still remains: posters should think carefully about the consequences of revealing sensitive information about a player's family or personal circumstances on a public forum.
  11. Good to see that Jetts has been nominated for the Jim Stynes Community Leadership Award, which is presented on Brownlow night. His work, which saw him pick up the MFC Club Ambassador Award at the B&F for the second consecutive year earlier this week, includes: * work with the Red Cross; * the Juvenile Justice Centre; * the Melbourne Indigenous Transition School; * Headspace in Western Australia during the off-season; and * as an ambassador for Melbourne University's Indigenous Eye Health Unit supporting trachoma. He also works with the Neville Jetta Squad at the Dandenong Stingrays, which gives footballing opportunities to players born overseas or of Indigenous heritage. Pretty impressive resume given the time commitments on modern players. Hope he gets the nod. Edit: Not sure why I created a new thread for this when I'd already 'liked' an earlier thread announcing the good news..
  12. Finding 'cultural similarities' between current and previous generations of MFC teams is an easy trap to fall into, but it's based on a narrative that only a supporter can sustain. Bartlett, Goodwin, the players - none of them know or remember when Essendon came back from 47 points down to beat us at the 'G, or the time we lost to Sydney when they hadn't won a game all year. These memories live on only in the minds of the fans; they can't be passed down from one generation of MFC personnel to the next when the board, admin and playing group are constantly changing and evolving. This is especially true in the modern era, with clubs no longer made up of former players and staff. Look at Hawthorn - they have more ex-MFC people on staff than we do, yet haven't become infected with the MFC cultural syndrome or whatever you want to call it.
  13. Port: "Hey, what's Toumpas like?" Melb: "He's great, you guys should take him." Port: "Ok, we're in."
  14. Please leave the Facebook / Big Footy rumours where you found them. I've removed all posts relating to it.
  15. We're going to miss her when the real comp starts, as we missed Ellie Blackburn tonight.
  16. There's a whole separate board where you can discuss these issues to your heart's content.
  17. He is absolutely a terrific bloke and a first-class human being. About 10 years ago, a friend of mine was in a plane crash in which a number of people died. Miraculously, she survived, but suffered severe burns to large parts of her body, and the combination of that and an infection meant she ultimately had to have both legs amputated. This would be hard enough for anyone, but was particularly so for my friend, whose favourite past-time was running and competing in marathons - the loss of her legs was devastating. My friend and her partner had been involved with the Swans at this time, and ended up coming into contact with Roosy, who took a close interest in her recovery, which was a long, slow and incredibly difficult process. We see and hear often how players do the right thing by visiting hospitals, spending time with sick kids and the like, but for the most part, by necessity, these relationships are fleeting, one-off acts of kindness. There's just not enough time in the day for it to be any other way. In a way, this happened to my friend, who worked in Parliament House in Canberra - many senior politicians and other 'notable' people were around to support her at the beginning, but most disappeared pretty quickly and got on with their lives, as people do. Roosy was different. He stayed in touch with her, regularly checking in on her health and her rehab as she slowly tried to put her life back together and recover from the horrific trauma of the crash. His friendship and support was invaluable during this time, helping to keep her spirits up despite regular returns to hospital for more surgery and the painfully slow rehab she had to undergo. Ten years on and she's largely been able to move on from that terrible time, but she's still very close with Roosy and his wife, who are now godparents to her young son. My friend and her partner can't speak highly enough of both of them, that they're just A-1 people with a good perspective on life. He doesn't do it for accolades, or because he feels obligated - he does it because he genuinely cares, nothing more and nothing less. So yeh, I reckon he's a legend in more ways than one.
  18. VFL Player Review ~ Round 20
  19. Just for comparison's sake: Buddy: 58 goals in 17 finals @ 3.4 per game Carey: 60 goals in 23 finals @ 2.6 per game Dunstall: 78 goals in 21 finals @ 3.7 per game Lockett: 35 goals in 9 finals @ 3.8 per game Matthews: 72 in 29 finals @ 2.5 per game.
  20. He kicked 3 in the '92 GF and was arguably among the Cats' better players, and you can cross the '91 finals off your list, too, given that he missed most of it with suspension. Would you like to change the goalposts yet again? And going back to the original point, has anyone ever suggested that his so-called sooky attitude somehow cost Geelong a flag? Would you pass on a player if it was guaranteed that he'd average 4 goals a final over 16 finals appearances? I'd take that in a heartbeat. Even if you take out the mercurial '89 finals as an anomaly - and why would you? - he still finished with an average of 3+ goals a final over 12 finals.
  21. You're the one who needs to 'check out' his other finals series. He finished his career with 64 goals in 16 finals - that's an average of 4 goals a game. And you reckon that's 'woeful at best'?
  22. What, like the time he kicked 27 goals in the 1989 finals series, including 7.7 against us? Either your knowledge of footy history is poor, or you're tolling. Having read your posts on Jesse over several months, I suspect it's the latter.
  23. Yeh, and at the end of season 2, Watts wasn't in the best 22; clearly, his career hadn't been salvaged at that point. Are people really arguing that 2016 isn't the year it's clicked for him?
  24. We're not talking about whether he's a good bloke. The point you quibbled with was whether his career had been saved, something which Jack himself concedes.
