Absolute gun tonight. I love watching him play. I have to sometimes pinch myself to remember that he's 19/20 years old. Looks so at ease in the AFL. Beautiful player to watch.

Hilarious!!!!

I accept that mistakes happen, and that the initial batch of jumpers have turned out to be the wrong shade of red. However, if Melbourne run out against Sydney in Blue and Pink jumpers, I will be severely [censored] with NB. Fair enough if the supporters can't get proper jumpers for a few months, but it is ridiculous that a football club, that has over 100 years of Red and Blue history is forced to play in pink guernsey's due to the incompetence of a clothing/manufacturing company. They are not doing themselves any favours here, let alone the MFC.

Forgive me for this post, but, when Killer did the don't argue in the defensive 50 tonight, I had a footy fan climax. Trengove, Jurrah, Jetta, were superb tonight, but seeing Watts starting to add physical dominance to his presence on ground tonight was something worth waiting 3 years for. He has copped so much undeserved criticism from so many people in his first two seasons. The silence will begin this year. Good on him.

I don't disagree with that, but using the OP's definition of a 'star' as being top 5 in the league (Judd, Ablett, N Riewoldt etc) these guys just aren't it. I guess your definition is more liberal that Wolfmother's.
Even if Frawley is Fletcher / Scarlett good, he won't be a star as per WM's definition. IMO Morton and Grimes could be A-grade but not elite, even as midefielders. Much like Trengove they lack the physical attributes to be elite players. That's no knock on their ability as footballers, it's just they way it is. If you don't have burst pace and gut-running ability you cannot be an elite mid; and as a forward you need to have a midfielder's endurance and be exceptional overhead and convert at >65%. Therefore Scully's our best chance with Jurrah an outside chance (ultimately it'll probably be his lack of endurance that will probably stop him from reaching the top).
Watts hasn't taken a mark above his head in his career and has only been near about half-a-dozen marking contests in 20-odd games; that doesn't bode well for him reaching Riewoldt's level.
Several of the players you are casting judgement on have not played 50 games. Jurrah has never completed a full pre-season. Whilst Judd was a freak early, Ablett took several years to become 'elite'. Ditto Hodge. I think Jurrah will surprise you this year with how much of a weapon he is. Not just as an 'exciting' player, but as a genuine game winner.

I highly doubt that Davey will play all his time forward this year, however, with the new interchange rules coming in there will be less chances for a mid to have a breather on the bench. They'll throw him forward for a spell due to this.
Davey in the forward line from time to time alongside the likes of Jurrah, Green, Watts and Petterd sounds pretty bloody awesome to me, especially when you consider you'll still have Sylvia, Moloney, Scully, Trengove, Jones, and hopefully the likes of Blease and Tapscott in the middle. Not to mention Grimesy sweeping across half back. Loving the options we now have!!!

This is the main demon you'll see.
Nicely done Chop. I think its a ripper. How is it going to work on game day? Are all three going to be wandering the boundary? Or just checker?
-
Whoever let that Demon out should put it back in. It's not ready yet.
Hahaha classic!

The clash strip is as good as it can possibly be. Its the the traditional jumper with only as much white as is required. This board just keeps on kicking goals.
-
I was wondering when his name would be linked with GWS. For the love of god, I hope the kid extends his contract with us. He is meant to be extremely close with his family so hopefully staying in Melbourne is more important than an extra $100,000+
-
Good question tu. Let us all know if you get an answer.
CS commented on the clash jumper last night...perhaps he can shed some insight into why Juice is still with us....or perhaps not.
-
If we are taking this strip we wore for less than a decade because of historical reasons then why not go back to the all-white we wore in our formative decades? (all teams wore them and I know DC hates it when I bring it up but we were called the invincible whites)
To me, that awful strip from the early eighties means less to me as a Dees fan than white.
For me it wasn't for its historical significance, it was (borrowing a line from BP here)the next best available. If I can't watch the dee's run out in the Navy & Red, then my next preference would be the Royal & Red.
-
All but Cassidy are in the list above (bolded in my post quote) and all are mids/small forwards (excluding PJ and TMac)
Ah cheers. Are any a likely prospect as a rookie? I must admit my knowledge of them is zero.
-
The 80's Royal blue would work as our away strip perfectly! It doesn't clash with essendon, carlton or port! Navy for the rest.

Just saw a list of the players that have permission to train with melbourne.
Corey Buchan (Dandenong Stingrays), Corey Cassidy (Oakleigh Chargers), Brad Harvey (Eastern Ranges), Paul Johnson (Melbourne), Cameron Johnston (Geelong Falcons), Alex McLeod (Calder Cannons), Tom McNamara (Melbourne)
Interesting to see big PJ there!
Does anyone know much about some of the blokes named?

CamSchwab Cool announcement to be made today at the MFC
Must be something pretty impressive....

Maybe, but you'd think, considering the timing, it would have to be coupled with an introduction to the draftees and the presentation of their numbers.
Was hankook brought on board at the same time as Scully & Trengove were presented?
Not entirely sure, but I think that was the case.
Hancook were onboard for the 2009 season, long before we drafted scullgove

Does unveiling our new jumper design count as important? that was what first popped into my head.
-
Lets see what someone can come up with design wise first before slamming the gate
Depending on what comes up I might end up agreeing with you on pale blue, but lets see
I put one up at the end of the last page. I'm not a fan.
-
OK to kick it off here's one suggestion
All pale blue background
Red V stripe (a'la old South Melbourne)
Red piping at neck and sleeves
Red "MFC" gothic letters (as in emblem) under point of vee
Sponsors logo
New emblem over the heart
Pale blueshorts with red piping or strips
All red socks
Edit: maybe add some navy blue highlights too ?
"pale" blue to be as "dark" as Vlad will allow
Just threw this together quickly for you. IMO the sky blue looks far worse than the white.

My Dad has had the renewal invoice sent to him, but I have not got mine, and I need it so i can pay online, I can't contact the club cos I dpon't get home til after 5.
Is there a email addy that will get some one to reply to me?
-
Like the jumper maybe make the blue more darker, also theres a demon logo on that site.
Looks pretty good.
Edit: found the jumper.

Not a fan. Especially the light blue face.

With the exception of Cook, you would imagine that they will receive higher numbers to begin with. LJ started in the forties (47 i think?) but was rewarded with 24. I think it should be the same with this new batch. If you are a later pick, earn a lower number.
-
I hate it how people talk about howe as if they know who he is. 48 hours ago, people had no idea who he was..now they're talking about his chances of lining up in the dee's jumper next year.
On another note, I think Tapscott is our most promising forward youngster coming through. But we just have so many forwards. I think people also need to question whether Watts should be in the team. Last season he was played purely because he was a number 1 pick, now that we have a forward set up of:
HF: Green Dunn Tapscott/Bate/Bennell/Howe
FF: Petterd Jurrah Wonaeamirri
There is no reason to suggest Watts should play if we are fully fit. If we are all honest with ourselves, Watts hasn't shown anything more than what an average player would show given the great playing minutes he has had thus far. now with a full line-up I dont think he should be there.
I think Watts is played to get the experience into him while his body matures rather than letting him wallow in the VFL until his body is ready to handle the role he will eventually play. If you left him at Casey to mature, then you would have to wait for him to adjust to the pace of AFL once you did play him. By playing him over the past 2 years when he was underdeveloped, he's gotten used to the pace of the game and will only get better as his body gets stronger.
IMO I'd rather have Watts in the side than Bate.
Jurrah or Scully
in Melbourne Demons

Scully is going to be a super star, I have no doubt about it. I also, for one, do not believe that he will leave the club at the end of the season. Gun midfielders are not easy to find and if you get one, you try to hold onto them at all costs....however! There is and has only ever been, one Liam Jurrah. He is that good.
