Farewell Jesse Hogan
Honestly I think if they have turned down 5+23 then I want to thanks them. I would’ve been extremely pizzed off if we’d accepted that. Only way that gets done IMO is if they throw in their future second rounder as steak knives.

Farewell Jesse Hogan
It’s only early here in London but I had a gut feeling something had changed and I had to have a look. What I’d love for the club to do is when Jesse gets back from his holidays to have a meeting with him and tell him how pathetic Freo were to deal with and that they clearly don’t rate him as highly as we do. We should then put a contract in front of him for at least two more years but I would love it to be a long term contract so Freo never get their grubby little hands on him. You’re an idiot Bell.

Actually sorry you're right, I think the deal was basically agreed a upon and it was Fergburger that said no.

Farewell Dom Tyson
I wouldn't be totally against Tyson for Preuss, we need a decent back up ruckman to take the pressure off Max and Braydon is the best option out there. Maybe we could try to bargain for a swap of picks to improve our position somewhere in the draft even if it's just third rounder or something.

The only time I can recall a player doing that was Brad Sewell (ironically Hawks as well) when he was going to be traded for Ryan Ferguson. It's a tough position for the player because you'd coached by the bloke that tried to get rid of you. Still worked alright for Sewell and unfortunately not us.

When you consider what we gave up for Garlett he's been fantastic value. But that's what these trade of experienced players can do sometimes, look at Dunn at the Pies. Gone for all money with us but has found his place among the Collingwood backline, I was genuinely gutted for him the he got injured and missed the finals. If the saints get a serviceable player then it's a win for them, I actually think if he'd stayed with us and been injury free I could've seen him playing 15+ games next year but I with where we're at there wasn't much job security with him.

Our leading goal kicker? No thanks I'm happy to keep him forward.

Even if WC could satisfy a trade I’m not sure how they would fit him in. They’re already very top heavy and while that worked this year I don’t know how you’d add Hogan into that mix. Interesting that another team may have entered the mix, if it’s Victorian and Hogan is considering it any goodwill I’d have towards the bloke would be shattered. I understand a desire to get home, surely it’s Perth or stay at Melbourne.

Farewell Jesse Hogan
Wanting to go home but having love for the club and the players aren’t mutually exclusive. Have a listen to what the boys said about him at the B&F, they all said no matter what happens Jesse will always have mates at the club and they love him. I’m sure there’ll be words said but they are professionals and they’ll get on with the job. Plus should he remain a demon he’d surely see it as one of his best chances to win a premiership.

Hasn’t played much footy in recent years due to form and injury. We were never going to get much for him. Good deal for the saints and sadly we lose a decent fringe player.

If the Neale trade fails, then the Hogan trade fails. That’s the way I read it. Unless Freo can find something else to satisfy us with (established player of some sorts) then pick 11 as a starting point will not get the trade done. We can and should dig our heels in.

Jesse has done amazing things for his age and has massive upside and potential still to be realised. But as a player in the here and now I can understand Wingard being talked up more as he’s a proven performer. That said pick 11 and a future second round pick is insulting not only to us but to Jesse. Of course it’s posturing but if you’re playing poker you always have to be careful not to overplay your hand. I feel like they’re in danger of doing that now. Pick 5 and 11 is what we should be saying is our final offer and stick to it. I don’t know what people are getting flustered about potentially having him on the list next year. I’m happy for us to hold onto him if needs be and who know Freo’s pathetic dealings might spur his position towards them.

Depends on whether what’s being said in the news is close to the truth. There are some reporting that we have softened on the idea of a second high draft pick going so far to suggest a pick 5 plus a low second rounder would get the job done. I’m hoping that’s pure speculation because if true that is disgraceful and should never be entertained. If we lose Hogan we MUST be coming out the other side saying “oh well it sucks but we’ve been given an amazing deal”. I will be very annoyed with Mahoney if he drops the two first round picks deal. We should be bargaining hard for 5 + 12 and below. We can send back a second or third rounder if they want but I don’t like the idea of us swapping future first round picks next year. We have to be willing to walk away from the table if they don’t satisfy us.

Aaron vandenBerg not going - signs a new deal!!!
Given the limited time he had in match fitness before coming back in his impact was fantastic. A full pre-season could see him become an important part of our engine room. Glad to have you on board AvB!

Future 3rd round pick? Sounds like an absolute steal to me.

And what if having May this means the difference to our defence being solid enough to win the premiership in 2019. I’m willing to back us getting him could make that difference and therefor worth it.
-
Farewell Jesse Hogan
Because this is likely our best opportunity to get him and it will help us in the short term for our premiership chances in 2019. Collingwood we’re into him big time this year and if we don’t get him now we going into a FA dogfight.

Farewell Jesse Hogan
No way would the Suns go for that, as it stands they will receive top level compensation for losing a FA which would probably end up being BETTER than whatever pick they’d end up receiving via Freo’s future pick. They’ll want a low draft pick THIS YEAR. If we give them pick 5 and receive May and KK I’d be satisfied with that. But on the Hogan trade, I’d be pushing for 5 and exchanging next years first round pick plus a second round pick this year. If all they want to offer is 5 plus a second round I’d straight up give them the middle finger and tell them to be prepared to battle with WC next year. This is quite possibly Mahoney’s big moment with the club, we MUST NOT cave. Consider what they are saying about Neale and how they are rating him, we must make sure it’s significantly higher than that. We must be prepared to walk.

Farewell Jesse Hogan
My thoughts of a fair deal would be Pick 5 plus a mid first rounder (around the ballpark of 10) for Hogan plus perhaps a mid-late second round pick. I want us to trade aggressively with Jesse and not undercut, of our current crop he’s the first of our big names to potentially move on. We can’t end up on the losing side of this one, least of all to Freo.

Like it or not a lot of water has under the bridge since that interview. I'm not saying Goodwin wasn't truthful in that interview but since that time the door has been opened ever so slightly. I feel like the talk that came about in the media following Weid's great game vs the Cats and missing out on playing finals may well have created doubts/thoughts in his head which has lead us to this point. As for the club, I would be very interested to know what has gone on internally with discussions with him, clearly it hasn't been the straight down the line "you're a required player and we don't want to entertain a trade". Now that the club's stance has softened along with whatever is going on in Jesse's brain, it is very much a possibility until I hear it's been completely quashed by the club.

You would think to run such a big AFL story the producers in Seven Perth would ask for double confirmation and offer up more than just a 6 second clip with zero additional info.

Farewell Jesse Hogan
If true it’s fantastic that he’s staying And I would be looking to the club to sit down with him to renegotiate an extension beyond next year. Just with people suggesting we play him in defence, I would actually argue we develop both Jess and Weids with defensive capabilities to be able to swing either one of them back depending on needs and form. I was as happy with Weidermans form in the latter stages of the year but he’s still got a lot of developing ahead of him.

Farewell Jesse Hogan
Surely if he’s chilling in Bali (and happy to let the world know about it) he’s told the two clubs to try to make it happen given the conversations that are being had. The only The I wonder is his desire to get home, how many times have we seen contracted players use their managers to leverage a deal? The silence from the Hogan camp has me thinking his position is get the deal done if it can be done, but he wouldn’t be desperately sad if he was with us for another year. Of course this is total speculation on my part but there just doesn’t seem to be as much noise as we’re used to.
