Statistically surprising free kicks in favour of the visitors 25-24. Decisions were subject to momentum swings reflecting the hotly contested game.
Broadcast
Enjoying the terrific visuals of the action sans commentary. Until some bright spark decided to turn on the volume. Which distracted from the overall viewing experience. Nathan Jones preferred though. Dermot to the quiet corner with the dunce's hat please. Never repeat never to be given the microphone in adult viewing hours.
Opposition hyperbole watch
Adelaide has a worldwide reputation for cultural events such as the Adelaide Festival, classic wines and the saviour faire of its people. Yet at the high theatre of the Adelaide Oval. The audience is proletarian and 'the players' are second rate provincial actors. In the last act after the adjudicators reversed the holding the ball decision in the goal square. Up steps Connor Rozee with all the sincerity of a cloak room Lago. Struts centre stage with the self-conglatory aplomb of a bantam rooster to mass applause of the proletariat. Give him the golden banjo. (Wasn't that Tamworth?)
Overall comment
Can't readily recall a match where the team goal kicking performance was so exemplary. Given the heat of the contest in a closely fought match. Plus the degree of difficulty over distance and crowd hostility. Ultimately kicked the lights out in Port Adelaide. Now on to a quick recovery before taking on the sanctimonious Chardonnay sippers set.

Kicked the lights out tonight. Port were manic Helter Skelter. Demons more measured Here Comes the Sun.

joeboy - tripping night fantastic some inspired triplets tonight. Some Milton would be proud of or are sword and sandal movies being revived in Rundleland?
eg.
Gawn - an Herculean performance so apt
Chandler - courageous and clever bandages flapping in the breeze gives that ambulant epic look.Viney- blood and guts now that was an Epic!
El Langdon watch; yes young Ed is very much on track covering post to post.
Just slightly perplexed by;
Hore - limited but impressive skills wise or ToG%? Definitely not lacking ticker.

May's Hamstring in the GF was shot to bits couldn't jump, close down space to spoil, he was stationary and only useful in pack situations.
Beg to differ on May’s performance/presence in the 2021 Grand Final. Definitely not a cardboard cutout, gave his fellow defenders and teammates a great deal of confidence. Had ‘Astroboy’ and his teammates totally bluffed. He was still standing 24 hours after the final siren.

Fingers crossed for a more coherent performance from Casey come Sunday. A few guys will be racking up some Velocity points returning from being standby emergencies in Adelaide. Valentine and Kai Windsor named in the emergencies too. May get a call up in due course. Will be watching Oliver Sestan’s and AMW’s performances with a degree of interest.

We played Jack Bell for a couple of seasons after Majak Daw retired. Many here were asking that he be drafted. He had a few years at St Kilda as a youngster I believe
Not sure where he's playing this year
May have returned to the VAFA Old Haileyburians. Season not getting started in B section until 13/04/2024.

This may surprise some.
In horse racing parlance, Young Laurie is what is known in the industry as a wet track specialist.
So keep an eye 👁️ on the form guide and the BOM weather report. Ensure some of your powder is dry for that special day. Some blokes are a slow 🔥 burn.

Congratulations Jack. Had the great pleasure of attending games at the ‘G and seeing your Dad play and later captain the side. Not so much of your good self. Living in the periphery at Darwin. But l do strongly recall the first time at Marrara probably in your first season. One committed, courageous act intercepting an opposition pass with fierce determination. Where angels fear to tread. Another chip off the Viney block. Fast forward to September 2021 Preliminary Final in Perth. Max put on the show but IMM you were best on the ground. When complimented at training later in the campaign you were not only appreciative but humble to boot. Long May You Run.

AMW had another good game for Casey, good not great.
Not afraid to apply defensive physicality on his opponents. That is a desirable trait in the big league. Imagine Goody, Rick and Max on the Casey balcony last Sunday were fully cognizant.
For those with leanings to “learnings” lessons is perfectly adequate. Even Simon says ‘learning’ now.

Remember the loss of 2 list spots - Brayshaw and Smith, and the injuries to Turner, Melksham, Macadam, Bowey and Spargo which means in effect Casey are playing 8 men down...That's a lot of players...
True. Box Hill were one of the better Victorian teams in the ‘VFL’ last season.

On that outing and pre-season practice match form, it appears Casey Demons have slipped from being contenders to a re-building phase. Plenty of opportunity for a relatively young list to build resilience, develop their physiques and hone their skills.
Unlike some I won’t be announcing on a very limited sample, that players are not going to reach AFL standard, draft picks have been wasted or an immediate mass cull is in order.
Judging by the migration of posters from threads mostly celebrating the ‘Joie de Vivre’. of recent senior team performances. Out at Casey Fields there are hectares of space for wallowing in the wintry mire of MFCSS. etc

Game Day!
Andy, WJ and assorted D’landers, must have have been partying hard into the Wee hours. Celebrating the Mayblooms de-petaling.
Box Hill Hawks may be a different proposition, faint echoes of the empire strikes back? As the Enterprise voyages fearlessly into the unknown. This seasons new Casey Demons are also a relatively unknown quantity with many new faces on board. Mixed with some more familiar faces. Today’s transmission from Planet Casey will soon reveal whether the blend of new and old will gel. A New Hope?

Has the 50 metre penalty for belated unduly rough play been jettisoned? Or is it open season to physically target the opposition’s ⭐️ players? What was once policed (albeit inconsistently), has become nothing to see here. Priority it appears is given to the next sponsor placement.
Media Broadcast
Watched today’s game with no commentary and an alternative soundtrack. When the Fox commentary team appeared Gerard, Dwayne, Jason et al, the Stones were pumping out “Brown Sugar”. Piggy whatever the match situation would always find a positive about the hawks. So cliche.
Opposition Hyperbole watch
If young Watson is the new ‘Wizard’. After an errant goal kicking performance. (One solitary goal since debut). Mediocrity it appears transcends merit.
Overall comment
Despite losing some key players to injury, an admirable team performance. Replacements were activated or switched. Seamlessly, not missing a beat, the Demons left the carcass of the (formerly great) hawks, bereft in the MCG dust.

joeboy - keep on punchin’
A consistent and fair appraisal overall. Goody in his presser seemed pleased that Sammy Mitchell persisted with his master tagger. Just leaves the hawks one short offensively at the centre bounces and ball ups. The Demon onball collective appeared to enjoy an even team orientated performance. Clayton Oliver contributed manfully with 23 possessions despite quote ‘couldn’t shake opponent’ and being the focus of some extracurricular physical attention. With 14 disposals in the Round 23 clash last season that triplet would fit. Given the coach’s tactical response and the fact that #13 had an over 60% improvement in possessions this time.
Oliver - cunning plan gazumpedEd watch 26 disposals at 76.9% DE 4 tackles at 92% ToG%.
Langdon - kicks klicks quick
Young Caleb’s GPS data must be impressive considering his youth. Great addition to the Winger’s club.
Windsor - has the tank

joeboy; add some pizzazz!
Ok solid overall with very little to disagree about.
Ed Langdon must be the new whipping boy out on the Canterbury line.
18 disciplined disposals at 88%+ DE makes him a solid team contributor.

Given our strong connections as being the pioneers of inducting Irish footballers to Australian Rules. May fond memories of Jimmy Stynes, Sean Wight (hon) et al, be celebrated with your favourite tipple Jamiesons, Guinness, Beamish or Bewley's Irish Breakfast. 🤞 for luck of the Irish. Saint Patrick's Day 🍀 at the 'G Demon's win.- 2
