  1. Glad to hear it Bobby. It is sometimes difficult to tell a [censored] take from real opinion round here!
  2. Love all the spithballing. Also love the posters who have absolutely no ability to comprehend how the father son bidding process works, the manner in which compo picks can and can't be used and the illegal deals. We will know where we stand with Viney BEFORE trade week commences. We will either have used pick 3 or the second rounder. It is only then that we will have any true idea of our trade position. Picks 3, 4 and 12 to play with or Picks 4, 12 and 20 something in terms of trade table strength. No matter what the scenario with Viney, short of Pendlebury or Watson or Franklin being involved in the trade, i cannot see the club offering up any top 5 selection for a trade. Pick 12 in a "super draft" is what the club will be dangling along with perhaps the second rounder and / or a variety of players if necessary. The player that it would appear most likely that they are targetting at least at this early stage is Boak. He was Pick 5 in 2006. Has played 100 games and will be 24 by season end. He is in a similar position as Clarke was at the end of last year in terms of wanting to leave for another club. The first question is can he be enticed to Melbourne. Maybe. The second question is what can we offer to get the trade done. Pick 12 and 23. Maybe someone like a Petterd who they may see upside in. This is a fairly strong trade offer. It will be stronger than what Geelong can offer in terms of picks. As the ladder stands currently, only Dogs, Tigers, Blues and Saints could offer a higher first round pick but they wouldn't have a higher second round pick. The Blues and Saints are unlikely to have the cap space either. Which leaves only the Tigers and Dogs as other Victorian teams in with a show. The Tigers only have one first round selection which they may be reluctant to part with. The Bulldogs are the only other team with two first round selections. When you look at the situation critically, unless he flat out refuses to talk to Melbourne, we are in a very strong position without having to give up picks 3 or 4.
  3. Sorry Bobby but i didn't realise smiling was a 4 week penalty. Some people are the kind that will always smile regardless of good or bad situations. Maybe one of his opponents sledged him and he thought it better to just smile rather than react physically. Or maybe he just offered a smile of congratulations after the game whilst being dirty about the result in a show of sportsmanship. You are entitled to your opinion Bobby, but in answer to your question, i think it is a ridiculous notion.
  4. Assuming a 16th place finish and short of an astounding deal, I don't believe we will part with Picks 3 or 4. 12 is a possibility but still only a maybe. So having that in mind i believe we will be looking at the following situation: Draft picks 3, 4, 12, 23 and 3rd round all to be used. Rookie upgrade of Nicho with 4th round pick. That's 6 additions to the list. I believe that we will shop around a few players and try to get deals done most likely to improve draft picks. Bate, Dunn, Spencer, Jetta and Bennell will be straight up de-listed or maybe traded for very low value picks. That's 5. Then a decision by Green on his future may dictate what else takes place. Petterd i believe is in the boat for a trade (his form or lack thereof still baffles me somewhat tho!). He may be retained if no suitable trade is found. Much to many people's chagrin, i don't believe Morton will go anywhere unless someone offers a decent trade to us (and that is unlikely). Blokes like Fitzpatrick and Davis might be in a borderline situation depending on how many players the FD wants to turn over. It won't be the list cull that many round here hope and are baying for but there is certainly some dead wood that will be moved on.
  5. We only had one ruckman (and sorry it wasnt Jake) and no FF today Stuie. Don't be so blinded. Jaded, he is a problem. One of many including the likes of Moloney, Davey, Green, Petterd and Morton to name a few. But unlike those others who all at some point in the last 4 years have played good games/seasons or even careers, Jake has not. Perhaps my thread title was too confronting but that doesn't change the facts. He is probably a ripping bloke. But he doesn't cut the mustard. Oh, and he's had just as much time on the list as Morton yet you and many others are quite happy to throw him to the wolves.
  6. Silly post. First time I've done a thread like this. I never pot the new draftees. Nor do I have unrealistic expectations on players. I gave Spencer 4 years. Tell me where I'm so far off the mark?
  7. Is your fault if you can't see that there were other options structurally. Martin primary ruck. Sellar relieving. Garland back to defence. Cook forward. There's an option for ya. Gives us a permanent tall forward target. Defence loses nothing and we get two blokes playing ruck that ate far better options than Spencer. Didn't realize it was so hard to comprehend?
  8. Maybe. Better than the alternative. And I still haven't seen a post that actually explains why this is a 'dumb thread'!
  9. I'm getting smashed in another thread but you are spot on re Spencer. I thought Sellar was ok. And at least Blease provides dash and flair with skill. He was ok.
  10. With Cook forward one of Rivers or Garland would have been back. Not that hard to fathom. I agree re Dunn but he has played the role before under Bailey (ahead of Spencer too)
  11. No he didn't. Cook could have played forward. Martin the starting ruck and relieved when needed by Sellar or Dunn even. A permanent forward target would have been nice today wouldn't it?
  12. I ask those who are having a go to explain why it is a dumb thread? He has been on the list 4 years. He is behind Jamar, Martin, Gawn when all fit. He does not regularly win or dominate the ruck duels at AFL or even VFL level. He is immobile. He does not win the ball around the ground or even impose himself on the game. I know he's had a knee reco however he also showed very little pre-knee. And how is suggesting cook play being short sighted? I agree it is gifting a game perhaps however Spencer wasn't doing much at VFL level either. He is a liability on the ground and nothing has changed in 4 years. Pot me if you will but produce a quality counter argument in doing it at least.
  13. Has never played a good game. Is an absolute liability in the ruck and even worse around the ground. Surely knowing Jamar may have been sore it would have been a better option to play Cook, have Martin ruck with relief from Dunn or Sellar. I know Cook is only just starting to get consistent games in and develop his body and they don't want to gift games but this is just ridiculous. Spencer is just horrendous.
  14. All a bit of smoke and mirrors by the club. Just trying to pressure GC and GWS into making a hard call. I still firmly believe we will take him at Pick 3 if required. But I applaud the club for turning the blowtorch back on the expansion teams.
  15. Quite happy to have him back there for the foreseeable future. As everyone has said his sublime skills and ability to read the play, intercept and hit targets is what we have been crying out for. Stay back Jack and do it again...............
  16. Hope the recovery goes well Barty. Your toughness and hunger will be missed this year.
  17. He is pretty tough, generally a good user of the footy who also likes to drift forward and kick a goal. He was taken high in the draft (something like 10 i think) and had good wraps from the under 18's. Most of the Gold Coast kids have dropped away this year but i wouldn't really hold that against him. I am all for making a play at him but i am loathe to be giving up any of our really early draft picks. At the most i would suggest the mid first round pick and perhaps a player (who that is i don't know) in exchange for Caddy and perhaps a second round pick. If this cannot get the deal done then i say we let him slide.
  18. Love to see Scully knocked out in a Trengove sling-tackle. And Sheedy to coach from the boundary line and hit by an accidental Magner hip and shoulder! Edit- forgot about Tappy's suspension!
  19. Love your passion RPFC but the AFL have their hands planted firmly in GC and GWS's arses and will not allow any deal like that to occur because of the backlash that will occur from the other 15 clubs not involved. Sorry but there will be no shady deal to stop early FS nominations and there will be no trading picks 3 and 4 for pick 1. It is what it is.
  20. Here's assuming it is your marriage Belze?!? Congrats. As for any talent- i have none and don't know of any either. But a clone of Luke Hodge off half back, Eddie Betts up forward and lets throw in a Patrick Dangerfield clone for the guts...............anyone fitting these profiles?
  21. Man some people live in fairy land around here. And clearly don't understand or ignore several posts made by others. The Father/Son bidding process is completed BEFORE the trade period commences. Thus arranging trades to secure some back door deal with GC and GWS prior to this are 1- against the AFL trade period rules, 2- even if allowed, are done on nothing more than good faith because nothing can be signed and 3- would also likely to be tantamount to draft tampering at least in the AFL's eyes. There will be no back door deals with GWS or GC if they finish lower than us. Viney WILL be picked up by Melbourne. They will use the round 1 selection on him if necessary. END OF STORY.
  22. Cannot believe anyone thinks that we won't actually select Viney. Seriously? Regardless of the pick, he will be coming to Melbourne. All this talk of passing him up for another club with the promise of a big deal to come back to Melbourne in a couple of years is absolute horse chit and i cannot believe some of you actually entertain those thoughts. Get over it. If it is pick 3 (or 2 or 4 depending on the ladder positions) then so be it. If not all the better.
  23. There was a reason we declined PA offering picks 8 and 9 for pick 1 in the year we took Scully (regardless of how it turned out). Whoever finished last won't take that deal.
  24. No. Our compo picks are tied to our finishing position. Likewise if we trade them away they are still tied to our finishing position. So they are very likely to remain as picks 4 and 12.
