  1. The machianations of the gold coast deal for pick 1 in the mini draft were: Gold Coast give Pick 2, unactivated 2010 end of Rd 1 compo pick and pick 63 to GWS GWS give mini draft pick 1 and unactivated 2011 end of Round 1 selection. I'm expecting that on this basis the Melbourne deal for MD pick 2 will be a little more complex. Without being certain of what GWS currently hold in terms of compo picks i wouldn't be surprised to see something like: Melbourne give pick 3 and later pick GWS give MD2, an unactivated end of round 1 compo pick. I believe the rules of trade week then allow for the club to activate the compo pick received. Therefore it the Demons would look something like: MD 2- Hogan Pick 4- Toumpas/Wines/Stringer Pick 13- I believe likely to be tied up in a trade for Dawes with a swap of further later picks. Pick 20ish Pick 23- Viney A pretty reasonable overall result i believe...(the only disclaimer will be that the Dawes trade is a success- balancing his form and not paying overs).
  2. It will finally all be over one way or the other. The bandwidth savings alone will be astronomical. Helleluljah. For the sanity of the vast majority of Demonlanders this time cannot come quick enough. ... perhaps all the other JV threads can then be obliterated and we can focus on new topics like polls of what we should use the remaining picks on or who we should take in the under 17 mini draft.
  3. Welcome Shannon. Glad you are at the MFC. Fills a need and from all accounts an outstanding leader and someone who given his playing background, can teach our kids a great deal...
  4. Heard him on Marngrook tonight. Was midfield coach at Carlton with a specialty or focus on stoppages and clearances. Has an absolute passion to stay in the coaching caper. Has worked with one of the best midfield units in the competition and also a product of the Sydney culture/premiership. My personal opinion is that he would make a great replacement for Royal as senior midfield coach and would provide much needed expertise in an area we struggled badly in. GET HIM!
  5. 3.18am. LOL A time when all of us do our best work! Love the passion if not much else...
  6. Hey Robbie. Where in my post did i say i was happy with Frawley's game? Show me? I actually made the comment that MANY were bad. You have resorted to making stuff up and baffling with bulldust to try to defend him. You love trying to divert attention away from the facts. Stop making stuff up and look at it realistically. Yep i do know Jacobs is one of the best. But you can at least make a bloke like that earn his hitouts, not have him palm you off with one hand and feed the ball down Thompson's throat with the other. Tippet is only a bit part ruckman and a fairly run of the mill one at that yet even he dominated Jake. If you cannot see that Spencer's game was truly horrendous today then you have lost all perception of reality. His primary role is as a ruckman. He was completely uncompetitive. It wasn't just the centre bounces, it was the ball ups and boundary throw ins too. It is a regular occurance with Jake and he doesn't offer anything around the ground in terms of mobility or marking targets. That is the issue Robbie.
  7. I do not believe he will be an assistant next year. I believe his time is up and i actually would love to have Ratten back as midfield coach if Carlton gives him the arse. However, Pretty hard for a midfield to win a clearance when the opposition ruckman wins 80% of the taps and stuffs them all down his own midfielders throat.
  8. Take a look at his second half of the year and he has actually been pretty consistent. Neeld highlighted as much in a recent press conference and like it or not, he spent the first half of the year regaining fitness after suffering broken vertebrae. He is one who does appear to have taken Neeld's message of hard work. Trade talk is ridiculous. How shite for how long do you want us to be? Trade away one of our very few with any real talent. Please. A full pre-season with no injuries and under Neeld i believe Col will flourish.
  9. Being at the game and not watching on TV might result in differing opinions but my votes would be: 6- Sylvia- Clearly the best in a team getting smashed 5- Jones- Is an absolute workhorse 4- Howe- the only marking target we had all day 3- Sellar- given he played a bit of everywhere i thought he performed most roles well but for one horrible shot at goal 2- Blease- the only bloke who looks remotely dangerous in the forward line 1- Tapscott- a lot of hard efforts and strong marks today And the 5 votes from red and blue forever were a typo.
  10. Jacobs and Tippett were sexually aroused when Spencer was on. As a ruckman he was worse than horrible. As a marking target around the ground he was terrible and but for his courageous effort in the goal square in the last quarter he was a liability. Pretty hard for our midfield to get their hands on the ball when you have Jacobs and Tippet jamming it down their teammates thoughts 80% of the time with consummate ease. There were plenty who were bad today. Jake was at the head of that list.
  11. Check the best players. Do not only do his possessions contradict you but the coaching panel reckon he was pretty good today.
  12. If you don't believe Melbourne to be a cause or entity in which you feel comfortable to donate money then don't do it Bluey. Other people feel do feel comfortable doing it and take great pride in it. Some believe donating to the RSPCA is a waste of money, some believe the same donating to the Salvo's or Make a Wish or whatever other charities are out there. But others find them to be worthy causes. Bottom line, if you don't like it that is fine. Don't denigrate others for it.
  13. In total agreeance with Old Dee, RobbieF and others. If i could i would happily donate that kind of money to the club. No-one is being forced to donate. No-one is being threatened. The donations are made because people love this club and want to contribute those amounts. If people here for one minute think it does not happen at every AFL club they are exremely mistaken. It happens at just about every football club in the land. I have a Collingwood friend who does exactly this. Melbourne's function receives more press because it stems from the original debt demolition and Jim Stynes' campaign. But it is nothing that other clubs do not engage in. If it is that extra 1% that puts us ahead of the opposition in years to come and delivers us what we all so desperately crave, then go for it. Whilst everyone who posts on this board has their own opinions, and comes from different walks of life, like it or not we all have the same love. The Melbourne Footy Club. It is what unites us all in happiness and makes us tear each other apart in anger. I have been guilty in the past of losing sight of this when engaged in discussion with fellow posters, and sometimes it pays for everyone to just take a step back and remember this. Good on the club for holding this function. Good on the Foundation Heroes for their wonderful generosity. And good on every Melbourne member and supporter for the contributions they make, be it through memberships, donations, apparel or simply turning up of a Fri/Sat/Sun and supporting our team.
  14. What. No bump this week Robbie? Beaten in hit outs again, less possessions than the opposing ruckman again and far less marks which is a signature of a good mobile ruckman. Oh and we were playing an atrocious team. And we haven't even mentioned how well he used the ball today. And Giles has only played 1 year. Sugar coat this one Robbie....
  15. Not on the Melbourne website Doc which is what I was using. Perhaps check your facts first next time....
  16. Wow you're selective Robbie. In previous posts I'd granted Spencer a years grace for the knee. And Cook was kicking goals and had been in the best a few times at Casey seniors when I made that suggestion. But that's ok Robbie, you look at Spencer with rose coloured glasses, I don't. Just different opinions in the end, as much as you try to ram yours down my throat and believe you are right, I don't and time will tell.
  17. As per my last post Robbie, you and I just agree to disagree. I mounted the Cook argument for forward structure reasons, not as a ruckman. But you can be selective in the manner in which you read things. Yep Cook is really battling. How have I gotten it wrong with Spencer? In 5 years he's been in the best once and played an ok game today. Wow. Yep, really proved me wrong there. Give Cook 5 years and he might do that too. As I said, if he proves me wrong then that is great for him and the MFC. But he hasn't yet shown enough to change my opinion. And all your bleating and carrying on won't change it either. Good luck to you Jake, and to you Robbie.
  18. Hardly a counter argument. He wasn't even in Melbourne's best players. He played ok today. Good on him. If he proves me wrong then that is fantastic for MFC, however let's not get ahead of ourselves. He had 28 hitouts. McEvoy had 39. So he still got beaten in the ruck which is his primary role. Possessions and tackles were about the same. As i have said before. His endeavour is great and he is probably a ripping kid. But after 5 years, today was hardly a counter argument and if it wasn't for injuries he'd still be behind Jamar, Martin and Gawn. Good luck Jake. Keep showing that endeavour and i hope for you and MFC my opinion is wrong. But nothing has changed it so far. As for you and i Robbie, guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.
  19. Blease? Just listen to Neeld's last couple of press conferences. He has a good opinion of Blease.
  20. Played a very good game today full of precision kicking, courageous efforts, ferocity at the ball and the man. I am not one who wishes injury upon anyone from any team, however, That hit on Luke Russell in the last quarter by Tappy was tremendous for all the right reasons and has seen Russell taken to hospital. I wish Russell a speedy recovery. We have become whipping boys of recent times. And on the receiving end of such instances too often. Today many stood up and hit back, I just thought Tappy's effort was significant.
  21. Thanks for the calming influence RPFC. Enough of this back and forth with my fellow Melbourne die hards. Onto other topics. We won after all. And in the end we all want the same result.....
  22. You are a fool. My post on Magner was sarcastic because you were so wrong with your understanding of which pre-season Spencer was selected in... Here it is spelled out for you: EVERY PICK IN THE 2007 ROOKIE AND PRE-SEASON DRAFTS Gee i wonder when that was held? End of the 2007 season and before the start of the 2008 season. YEP that is CORRECT. But wait lets see..... Here's Wikipedia's records As you can see. It is referred to as the 2008 Rookie draft however was held BEFORE the 2008 season started. Pretty simple stuff really. If you are struggling so much sober, i'd hate to see you inebriated.
  23. No. Second by my count. Clearly i need to spell it out for you.... All of 2008 = 1 year All of 2009 = 2 years (and therefore second year) All of 2010 = 3 years and so on.... All of 2012 makes 5 years. Not that hard to understand. As for Cook. He was kicking goals and in the best regularly during the year and then with the VFL byes and a few poor games he has dropped off again. I am first to say i wish he was performing well enough to be playing for the Demons now. He isn't and therefore isn't. Does that mean he is a lost cause. I don't believe so. Does he look close at the moment. No. What will 2013 bring? Who knows. I hope for MFC's sake a performing Lucas Cook.
  24. Sober or not, i was still correct Robbie whether you want to admit it or not. But given we're on the "Give Big Men Time" argument, i was merely stating that maybe Cook should be afforded that. however it was a digression off thread topic. I apologise. And i actually believe our problem has not so much been the drafting as the ability to develop and get the best out of the players we draft. Would Melbourne have turned Sidebottom into the player he is today? But that is another argument for another thread and you would probably agree a little more there...
  25. Magner was drafted in the 2012 Rookie draft. Guess his first year doesn't count. If you're gonna try to smash me with stats, get it right.
