It is a gulf between 11 and 14 so I’m not too mad in that sense - does seem a lot to give, but they have plans. glad that we are holding firm on Grundy and if we end up with 6 and 11 that’s still a good hand.

Worst case we are driving up his price and hurting Geelong’s salary cap.

Can’t imagine it’s more than potato chips. Out of contract, is their 4th string ruck and their 4th string key forward.

Paul Connors was on Getable podcast a couple of weeks back talking about this. Worth a listen. From memory, the clubs don’t want to make massive changes, security in contracts, and the bargaining agreement that’s just been finalised. Mid season trading might change that, but he is saying it’s going to be the most boring trade period he’s seen.

It’s ok, this is a place where you can get your anger out (and remember to put your anger here and not at home). we will be angry, we will be disappointed, but we will be back. We get up tomorrow and start thinking about next year and how we build and go again. We have a forward line for next year of Petty, JVR, Smith, Fritch, Kozzie and Spargo. If we get a McAdam or a Watson, things look better. there is enough to like about what we are and what we will be. just get your anger out here and let’s get to the G in 2024

I like this. I think he’ll have the work ethic to do it as well. I’ve watched maybe 15(?) of his games over the last couple of years and he just gets better. His running is better, his kicking is better, his extraction is better. I’m keen to see him work with Max Viney on evading tackles. I’m not expecting him to play year 1 or 2 and be a regular contributor. But you can see that he is an afl player and is going to put pressure on selection.

ANB. Plays that roll really well.

Possibly with us trading them pick 24 back - i.e., 11 for Grundy (and us paying some salary) and 24. Possibly Grundy and our natural first-rounder for theirs and no salary. Its a great trade for us in any realm if true. And for Sydney - their first pick (even if it is 11) ends up being 15-18 due to Academy and McKay. So not bad for them either. Ah, I'll take the rumour :)

Goody has been on the record saying he wants JJ at the club. It is opportunity (and contract length / $$$). I cant argue with him wanting to go for opportunity. He has been great at the Dees, he will be better somewhere else where he is one of the big 3.

Jefferson had a bad games. He’s had a couple of bad games this year. He’s almost had many more good games than bad games. It’s just there was no men’s football this weekend so more people tuned in. Remember that Howes couldn’t get near it in last years granny. JVR had some quiet games. AMW has had some very quiet games. Its ok. We’ve got a much better team in to help him develop.

And not naming them at all as well and pulling them last minute. 8 AFL players - J. Adams, K Turner, D Smith, J Harmes, A. Moniz-Wakefield, M. Jefferson, W. Verrall, K. Farris-White Far out. Like, maybe we can win it, but Jefferson probably needs to have a blinder up forward to do it. We know that Munro, White and Harmes will get it out of the centre, our defence isn't going to be outstanding, so it comes down to forwards making every opportunity count. Ouch.

Dons are a) tough to deal with and b) have so many balls in the air. Remember that they said no to 3 first rounders for their first rounder last year because they wouldn’t give us a second back in return. I’d love for them to say yes, but probably not.

CASEY: Wild Card vs North Melbourne
Dee-licious replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
A little from column a. A little from column b. Grundy, T Mac, Jordan really played like they were too good and just toyed with them. You could see Grundy was showing off for Goody. He really looked for goals and just showed his size. Tommy Mac’s contested marking was really strong and Jordan’s highlight was Trac style out the front a stoppage and a goal from 50. I had Harmes and Spargo after that. But it gives me a lot of confidence in our depth running into September. -
Led to the ball really well at half forward and a few were contested too. He played well, but if he could kick off both feet he would have had a great day. Had to come back in to kick on his right 4 or 5 times which cost him a goal and probably a few goal assists. He played really well and put his hand up for next week.

Probably didn’t deserve to be that close, but annoying none the less. We were well beaten around the ball in the first and the last. Rucks - Grundy good in the ruck contests but really didn’t offer much follow up which is odd. Verrall developing well and played a solid game for a first year ruck. KFW - not sure how much of the game he played after the first quarter. Mids - Dunstan is very good, just not creative. Woey fine without being outstanding. AMW pinched hit. Jefferson looked good on a wing, still a forward, but it was good to see him up there. He didn’t really lead up on the stickers, more an outlet when needed. defenders - Adams best game I’ve seen. Dan Turner just so so so good. Giving away height and weight but didn’t look like it ever. Deakin Smith was his usual self, defended well, could have used it better. Kye Turner had some nice moments and looked like he had speed. forwards - Spargo was our best leading forward and did what he does well. We learned nothing about him this game. T Mac had one out the back, one contested mark goal (and other contested marks) and one free kick goal. Tackles well, but the large turning circle is the issue. we lacked one of a Harmes, Laurie or Jordan. I felt a decent decision maker in the middle (vfl level) was the difference.
-
Grundy with the chance to take the contested mark on the siren to kick the winner. And….
-
Far out. Throw which McDonald kicked the goal. 2 points down with nothing to go
-
Much better. Still not great when it’s hit the ground. And has run quite a bit (made it to the backline to defend). Delivery hasn’t been great but he’s presented really well.
-
Grundy, Dunstan, White, Tom, Goal
-
Dan Turner will be the biggest beneficiary of Petty’s forward form.
-
Size would help, but the two big contests he lost was he thought he had it and a smaller, quicker opponent stole the ball, turned and ran. Annoying, but not something he can’t fix for the second half
-
Think that is harsh on T Mac and Hibbo. Agree that the mistakes are bad (a combo of running under the ball and delivery [due to no judging the wind]).
-
For those who aren’t watching, we are not dominating. We are being well beaten. It’s just their kicking for goal has been as bad as our field kicking.
-
TMac spots up Jefferson and he goals. Two things here: 1. Jefferson completely missed the last kick into 50 which would have given TMac his 3rd 2. TMac went to Jefferson rather than Grundy in teh square. oh Grundy doesn’t help himself, but really could be setting the world alight if a few things went his way And Turner just out bodied Buzza….. sheeesh.
