Or, if they really see a need to promote the game in the US, how about sending a couple of teams that will provide a good contest... possibly the match up between the previous season’s grand finalists?

  3. How much are we struggling for sport to discuss - American ā€œfootā€ball! Finding this post in the Melbourne Demons forum is like finding an anchovy on your meat lovers pizza. Surely it should be in the Other Sports forum (it only appeared here because of some very tenuous link to the MFC’s recent performance).
  4. Smith was looking very good before he succumbed to injury.
  5. Couldn’t agree more! I’d rather watch paint dry.
  6. That was the very first beer I ever tasted (back in the 60's)... at the old Mayfair Hotel in (was it?) Parkville or Carlton.
  7. Yeah, but isn’t he on the long term injury list?
  8. I get the feeling that his mental health issues are in part related to his inability to get himself physically right. I wonder whether there was possibly another setback in his recovery?
  9. DD... the comments being directed towards you have absolutely nothing to do with whether you or anyone else potted Hogan or not; they allude to the fact that you simply say the club got rid of him at the right time, yet not a word of acknowledgement re the personal hell he is obviously going through at the present moment. Maybe go back and re-read a few of the comments that preceded yours and then look at your own comment by way of a comparison... you might understand why you were seen as lacking in empathy.
  10. You are correct, but most of them don’t have their problems put out in the public space and splashed all over social media at such a young age. You showed zero sympathy with your comment re Hogan... I certainly hope you are a little more sympathetic with the people you deal with in your work as a volunteer.
  11. DiCaprio’s in town?
  12. Talking of insensitive... you’re suggesting that I go and check out Big Footy??!!??
  13. Possibly... I have no knowledge of what you’re alluding to, so I’ll reserve my judgement. However, it still doesn’t excuse the insensitive comments.
  14. In which case you should probably have been a little more thoughtful with your post.
  15. Apart from that, he’s been plagued by injury, lost his father after being on the other side of the country during his illness and was attacked in social media over his being seen smoking at a music festival (even lambasted for attending said festival while his father was gravely ill). The kid has been to hell and back... something that causes comments like drysdale demon’s insensitive remark, to make my blood boil!
  16. Empathy is not your strong suit it would seem.
  17. I hadn’t read about any of that (holiday mode)... you’re right (minus the alt) though, the club would be much better not associating themselves with him.
  18. He only got near Roger because he won enough other matches to make it to the quarters! Anyone who makes it to the quarters deserves to play on the Rod Laver Arena. Ridiculous comments.
  19. He’s cooked... about to lose the unloseable...done a Melbourne!
  20. This really is a nothing topic, but I love a good fluff piece. I’m watching The Australian Open on the telly, which is the quarter final match between Federer and some unseeded American player named Sandgren. Well, Federer’s back appears to be kaput and it’s looking more and more like Sandgren will prevail as he currently leads 2 sets to 1 and the 4th is currently going with service. What does this have to do with the Dees I hear you ask? Well, at the beginning of the game they did a brief puff piece on Sandgren that shows him in a signed Dees jumper with a footy in his hand. The interviewer then asks about the jumper and they switch to footage of him being presented with the jumper by Oliver and Salem, on what looked like the ground at the Collingwood facilities. Could this be a sign? PS. Does anyone know when this presentation took place and why?

OD... at least he was true to his word; he said he’d get us Neeld and he did! ?

He’s expecting the Pies’ year to be THAT bad?
  23. Will do... that’s a nice part of the country.
  24. I think Liam’s got a great eye for photography and am incredibly proud of what he’s already producing. I really did mean it when I said thanks for your advice and suggestions. Words of encouragement from yourself and others, are doing wonders for his self confidence; thanks so much.
  25. Thanks mate. We’re both into photography and for the most part do just as you’re suggesting. On this visit to Melbourne we drove down the Princes Highway via my brothers’ places and sister’s place in the Bermagui area (they were all evacuated at one point), passing through the burnt out villages of Mogo, Cobargo and Quaamar and from there to Melbourne we had to divert along the Snowy Mountains and Monaro Highways due to East Gippsland being closed off. The devastation in the Snowys National Park was truly horrific but made for some amazing photo studies. In all my years, I’ve never seen anything like it. We didn’t photograph much of the damage to people’s houses/personal property, as that felt uncomfortably voyeuristic. Thanks for your advice though... I will pass it on and thoroughly support your suggestions. Here’s a couple of my shots from the Snowys...
