That's actually an interesting situation, because I'm sure I read something quoting Neeld as saying there was a possibility Jurrah may be called up for the Hawks game. Not sure if a player's self-assessment trumps that of his coach, but it will be interesting to see what happens.

Have you seen the vision of this incident? I haven't and if you have a link to where we might see it, it would be greatly appreciated. On the Leigh Matthews era comment, as I recall (but I could well be wrong), criminal assault charges were brought against him after he broke a players jaw, but the big difference was that he used a well directed fist to inflict the damage.

We all see what we want to see I suppose. There have been plenty of occasions when the "obvious" free hasn't been paid against us or the "not so obvious" free has been paid to us... the fact that we seem to get more frees paid against us in the opposition's forward 50 would, I think, tend to say more about our defence than it says about the umpires.

Perhaps the umpire, being human, made a mistake? Now, how about relating your umpiring experiences to us? Does the noise from car horns sounded in anger, still cause you to jump?

No, it is very unclear when you consider the number of responses that have been passed since your original post. For example, my last comment was regarding your umpiring experience... perhaps you overlooked that as you didn't respond.

He is simply not putting in, is very slow and often well off the play... he needs to be sent to Casey to find form, just like anyone else in his position.

You were an umpire at AFL level with the pressure of 10's of thousands of supporters screaming at you and the pace of the game at the top level to contend with?

Maybe if we played in front, we might be able to say that one day. With very few exceptions, we get freed through our own poor efforts. Why would anyone want to be an umpire when they have to put up with this kind of hysteria?

Just reposting what I put in the now locked Game Day thread: I always suspected it, but now I firmly believe that our greatest failings (mores than lack of pace) are our "hands"... we just cannot get the ball out of scrimmages because we fumble, we are constantly hand balling incorrectly so it falls short and we are unable to, with just a few exceptions, hold marks. Additionally, I believe that Trengove needs to do time at Casey as does Sellar... bring in either Martin or the Fitz and Couch to get a run. I suspect they will also need to find room for Watts.

You know what one of the worst things about today's effort is? We are all going to think we did well because we only got flogged by 43 points which is a great improvement on last year's 186.
