  1. I'll see your curse and raise you one... When I first moved to Sydney and took an interest in NRL, I followed the Newtown Jets... club folded. Next, I moved my alliegance to the North Sydney Bears... club was merged with Manly Sea Eagles and moved to the Central Coast... not too long after, central coast initiative abandoned, manly Sea Eagles reinstated as the Manly Sea Eagles, North Sydney Bears?...club folded. Still reeling from that, I switched to South Sydney Rabbitohs... a few seasons later...club folded. (the happy ending there was that after much lobbying by luminaries such as Russel Crowe and Andrew Denton, they were reinstated a few seasons later and last year won the premiership). And through all of this, I have supported the MFC since the late '50's.
  2. Well, your forum name would seem to be appropriate... a comedian. There is a very big difference between being a defeatist and being a realist. The fact that he is saying we expect to play finals next year (without discounting this year, by the way), would indicate that he expects our climb up the ladder to start this year and so there will be plenty for supporters to hold onto in the mean time.
  3. I think you might have a different perception if we happened to be winning more than not and playing finals.
  4. Of course I'm guessing DC (we are all guessing)... my guess is based on my personal budgeting over the past few years (as I clearly stated in my comment). I give $50 a month for a kid in Mongolia via World Vision... now I know that that $50 will not keep that child and her community going, but collectively all of the contributions from all over the planet quite possibly will. My view on these kinds of things is that if you do nothing, you can be sure that nothing will happen and nothing will change. However, if you do something, then there is a chance (even if it is slight) that something will happen and things will change. I know which I would rather be doing.
  5. Well, individually I think it is... if I buy a cup of coffee and a newspaper each working day at $5.50 a pop, that's $27.50 per week or over a $1,000 per year. So, I'm happy to forgo a coffee every second day, read the news online, have a couple less beers every week. Give up smoking (if you are a smoker) and that saving goes up massively with the added benefit that your health improves and the cost to the public health system is greatly reduced. I doubt very much that carbon taxes and their impact on other goods and services came to that much at an individual level (well, certainly not that I noticed in my budgeting).
  6. There have been two reports today... one that 2014 was a new high for average global temperature and that it is now 14 of the 15 years in the 21st century have been the warmest since records have been kept. The other report related to the melting glaciers and the impact on Iceland and volcanic activity which in 2010 cost the global economy $5 billion. Is it really worth the risk to sit back and do nothing all for the sake of a few dollars out of the hip pocket?
  7. hang on, 10 of the warmest years on record since 1998... how is that not an indication that the planet is still warming? It seems you like to take an each way bet... the IPCC are worth nothing when predicting warming, yet all of a sudden they are experts when they agree there is an hiatus?
  8. You keep asking that, but can you in turn explain why globally, the 10 warmest years on record have occurred since 1998, which I believe puts them right in the midst of your hiatus.
  9. As someone who has had the pleasure of meeting TDI and his lady, I would suggest that some of the snipers get along to training and introduce themselves and know the person... it might do wonders for their perception of the man rather than the poster. I know most of the comments are said in good humour, but there are a few that are definitely beyond the pale.
  10. One of the best goals I can recall seeing... not the strike, but the effort to put it in that position. Astounding!!
  11. Very lucky to be leading though... S Korea have had a few very near misses and most of the play. Perfect timing though, going into half time with the lead.
  12. And even more remarkable is that he has been dead for 35 of those years!
  13. That would be one of these I suppose...
  14. Yet isn't it you who is placing so much importance on the 12 year (or however long it is) hiatus?
  15. Seems Roos isn't the only one with a cherry picker... many of the skeptics use one to get at the pieces of info that suit. Anyway, if I'm not mistaken, Ben is back as the wrecker.
  16. I would have thought that as he has not yet played an AFL season game yet, Hogan should possibly be included in the list of new recruits, despite the fact that he is not really "new"?
  17. And I never once suggested you did... it was a comment on why the thread starting post was rubbish; tonatopia is possibly the only poster to have given enyaw a run for their money.
