  1. Morton was edged in the head-to-head battle only by virtue of a couple of junk time goals once Roos gave up on Goodes as a damaging midfield option where Morton was breaking even.

Very little shame in a 3rd yearp player only being beaten late in the game by one of the all-time greats of the game.

  2. 6 - Colin Sylvia

    5 - Clint Bartram

    4 - James Frawley

    3 - Jordie McKenzie

    2 - Brad Green

    1 - Cam Bruce

It speaks enormous volumes of the sensational team performance today that the games of Davey, Macdonald, Jamar and a handful of others couldn't crack a vote.

  3. Almost no doubt in my mind he'll be dropped next week. Sure, he did some nice things here and there, but there is absolutely no way he is going to hold any of McDonald, Moloney or Trengove out of the team.

The whole "he needs to be given a few games" argument is all well and good, but Maric won't be the unluckiest to miss out on a spot when those 3 players come back.

  4. Yep he definitely needs game time...

He definitely needs to earn game time. Can't recall him cracking into the best for Casey at all this year. Shouldn't be expecting much of a pay rise in his new contract.

  5. Why does anyone believe what the Injury Lists say? It's used to confuse opposition clubs more than anything.

Any specific examples or predictions of how this list might be misleading??

Do you think Ricky Petterd is, in fact, going to return to the team this week leaving Sydney reeling and unable to gather themselves to effectively compete??

  6. As such youre right...but there is a caveat as mentioned by another and thats development. We arent going to play in september. We are building a team and in that process we need to get players playing with each other and on the big stage. Bailey will want to see how various combinations gel and I would be rather surprised if Maric didnt get a few games before the end of this season.

This is a fair point, but who in the current senior team should be denied their development opportunity in order to gift it to Maric???

With the massive inexperience in our list, there's pretty much only 3 players who aren't 'developing' every time they take the field. It would be fair to say that really only Junior, Bruce & Green are 'fully developed' at this point.

  7. I don't reckon that injury list is really quite as bad as it looks at first glance. Practically speaking if those players all come through fitness tests it really looks like this:

James Strauss (knee) - 1 week

Jack Trengove (hip) - 1 week

Jack Grimes (hamstring) - 3 weeks

    Ricky Petterd (shoulder) - season

So fast forward to the lead-up to the game v Brisbane next week and it could feasibly look like this:

Jack Grimes (hamstring) - 2 weeks

    Ricky Petterd (shoulder) - season

I don't think that's anything to be too worried about.

  8. Then he must be getting very close indeed

    I should clarify.

"Deserving" a game isn't a simple as being named in the best for Casey. You have to also deserve the spot more than an incumbent player. At this stage, there is no position in the forward line that Maric deserves more than the incumbents.

  9. It's just my opinion of course... much like most of what you find on these forums.

I just don't think Joel is going to get any better and his current level is only good enough until he is overtaken by our kids.

It's not really an indictment on him. Few are good enough to play at the level he has, but I just don't think he's good enough to maintain his spot for much longer.

Maybe it says more about how highly I rate a lot of our kids.

But which of our kids is pushing for Joel Mac's close marking strong defensive role???

I'd say Cheney is the only one really pushing for that kind of role.

  10. Yes it is. Nevertheless it's important.

I like the write up they've done (looks as though it's on the inside left of the locker), which gives some brief insight into the history of each number. As opposed to the inside right panel of all the previous player's to have worn that number.

The names/numbers are par for the course. The narrative most certainly isn't.

  11. Clint Bartram will not be dropped this week

    Quite right.

He could get 30 touches and hold his opponent statless and the same people on here would drop him in this thread. He's the poster boy for the "I don't see him as a Premiership player" brigade.

Did a good job, again, on Alwyn last week and is probably set for Ballantyne and/or Fyfe this week.

  12. Inner Demon... are you another version of me???

Not only do I wholeheartedly agree with you on the (only) inclusions of Bail, Junior and Warnock for the Freo match this weekend... but also the fact that Joel Mac will be playing at Melbourne for maaaany more years - minimum 5 years. He is 26 years of age and will play out the rest of his career as a Demon. Surely.

In fact, Joel is only 25.

  13. Spot on.

But MacDonald should stay in the team for now.

He will not be on our list for many more years to come, but we should not let impatience remove him from the team ahead of time.

It won't help our kids progression by fielding a team with no experience so they end up out of their depth.

Why do people always talk about Joel Macdonald as if he's about to turn 30???

He has years and years of football ahead of him.

  14. Thanks for clearing it up (?)!!!

Here's one to ponder (inappropriate thread I know), but you would assume Meesen is delisted as a rookie, what's the chances of us delisting Bell and signing him up as a mature-age rookie? This will free up a space on the list, and still have Bell on our list. He is playing pretty good footy at Casey, and hasn't had much of a chance to get some consistency in the seniors. Just a thought.

The only way to do that is for Bell to enter the draft and him to fall all the way through to the rookie list at which point we determine that he is the best player available to draft onto our rookie list at that time.

Personally, I don't think Daniel, at 26 next season, will have as much potential upside as any number of 18/19 year olds we could draft in his place.

  15. Also, Jordie McKenzie is on the senior list by virtue of the "mid year rule".

    So it's:

    Spencer (for Gawn)

    Hughes (for Petterd)

McKenzie (by the mid-season rookie rule).

I don't know that there has to be a direct correlation with who goes back on to the rookie list based on who they came on for. I.e. I don't see why we can't send Hughes back to the rookie list instead of Spencer when Gawn returns.

I wonder the same thing Nasher. I seem to recall coming across this same question last year and I have a gut feeling that we can pick and choose who is demoted when injured players return but that is based on absolutely nothing at all rather than a hazy memory.

  16. Gold Coast Stingrays

    Gold Coast Dolphins

    Gold Coast Sharks

The bloody Gold Coast Rollers would of even been betetr then Gold Coast Suns!!!

All of those are nicknames used by American sporting teams, but that's not an issue???

The Stingrays in particular are already a TAC Cup team and the Sharks are the biggest AFLQ team.
