  1. I'm confused with the whole rookie thing. Can someone explain our current situation please?

Jordie is a rookie who was made "the" player mid season who can play without the need of a LTI.

Spencer has been elevated due to the LTI of Meesen.

Newton elevated due to Petterd's LTI.

That's how I thought it was at the moment, but didn't see the article about Newton being put back on it.

Cheers in advance for clearing this up for me.

Hughes is on for Petterd. Newton was on for Tapscott.

They don't write articles for the demotions, I suppose it puts the player in something of a negative light. Obviously it's documented somewhere for the AFL and Jesse Hogan (Age Journo) tweeted that Newton had gone back onto the rookie list for Tapscott a couple of weeks ago.

EDIT: Oh, and just noticed the other error. Spencer isn't elevated for Meesen. Meesen is on the rookie list too. He is/was elevated for Gawn so with his scheduled return this week we may just be left with Hughes elevated for Petterd.

  2. Was going to mention this in another thread.

Not that anyone here cares since most have written him off, but Juice did a quad training during the week. The list says 2-3 weeks. 7 weeks to go in the season... Is that it for him? My mail is that he was going to play until he hurt himself, too.

Let's try to avoid the "good timing on the injury" smarminess if we can...

Your mail is appalling. As was extensively covered in a number of threads last week, Newton was put back to the rookie list when Tapscott returned 2 weeks ago through Casey 2s. He was and is ineligible for senior selection.

  3. gc draft rules...afl

    "6. 2010 Post-season, AFL listed player access

Gold Coast to have capacity to pre-list 10 players who had previously nominated for the AFL Draft, or were previously listed with an AFL club.

Gold Coast to have capacity to sign up to 16 uncontracted players"

and somewhere there is mention they can take two years to do it.

Here's the link you were after

    They don't get two years.

I think you may just be confused with GWS. They get up to 16 over 2 years. As per this article

  4. Re our Rookie listed players

Not so clear - both are 1st year rookies. Possible we could hold onto 1 or 2 of them assuming we think the Rookie alternatives are weaker.

Oh & I should add if the Gold Coast would actually want them.

However, the ball is in their court if they want to move on else where for more opportunities.

Might also heavily depend on what Junior or the FD decides to do on our Veterans list.

Any footballer available who is physically capable of training is ahead of Meesen. He's shot to bits and nowhere near good enough a player to desperately cling to in the hopes he one day gets fit. Fortunately there wasn't much quality around Pick 38 in that draft so that trade isn't as big a clanger as it might appear.

    Newton I just want gone.

I really can't see any of our rookie listed being kept on the rookie list. They'll either be promoted or delisted and we'll stock up on a fresh batch of projects.

  5. Are you sure about that ID ?

Aussie was rookie listed when he debuted in 08.

He was promoted to the senior list at the end of that season when we drafted Blease.

Aussie has been at the club a year longer than Blease, but on the senior list for the same period of time.

  6. That forwarc arc is starting to get rather popular. They can't all play :( survival of the FITTEST me thinks. Good luck to Wonna though. Adds a bit of dash and pomp :)

We need more than 6 forwards on the list.

A lot of people seem to be fixated on the only players deserving of list spots being in the Top 22. Considering there are 38 spots on the list, this is the wrong way to look at it.

  7. Yawn.

Amazing how desperate people are to make ludicrously early calls on players' careers for whatever reason. Aussie's been on the senior list for the same length of time as Sam Blease. Don't see many people suggesting he will be delisted or is 'on the edge'.

As a starting point, Aussie is contracted through next year.

Secondly, all it will take is Aussie finding some touch and kicking 3-4 at Casey on the weekend while we get beaten at Subi and this thread will be replaced by a "Bring back Wona" thread.

  8. Gee wizz they have given Geelong and Doggies easy endings to the season. [censored] playing Weagles at home on Sat before finals... wow.

Also the dees and kangas screwed on time slot and revenue for us. Low drawing sides potenially not making the 8 on sunday at 4.40 at Etihad. We will struggle to get 20k there.

I hope by some miracle we need to win this to make the 8!!!!

The match-ups and locations were determined with the rest of the draw at the end of last year. Nobody has been 'handed' an easy or hard last game. The only thing that was left open was the time of each game in order to ensure teams didn't have to return from travel into short weeks prior to finals. Which is precisely what this fixture has achieved.

Oh, and we're at the MCG. Rich v Port is at Etihad at 2:10. That game will struggle to get 15K, whereas there is some chance one of North or Melbourne will be playing for 8th. Our crowd will be fine.

  9. Front runner - your kidding. Several in front of him- if indeed he plays and doesn't retire on a reasonable high.

The players have voted him the Vice Captain for the last 3 years.

Just because everyone here like Moloney & Grimes more doesn't mean a thing. If Cam Bruce wasn't highly thought of as a leader amongst the playing group who hold sole responsibility for nominating the captain, vice-captain & leadership group then he wouldn't be VC.

  10. Looked good at training last Saturday. He's an athletic looking guy, more of a triangular shape than just a beanpole. Slightly awkward kicking action, but it was effective enough. Unsurprising I suppose given the ball has to fall about 5 feet to get to his boot!! Very smooth mover though, doesn't have that baby giraffe gallop a lot of guys that size have.

  11. That's because our red looks pink NOT red. Watch the replay. The blue is still very light. I think, according to Schwabby, both will darken next year. This will make it more diffiucult. But agree that i did not notice the clash. Having watched the replay though, the commentators made constant reference to it. I had no issue. Wish pour red was red though. First time I had noticed it. Can anyone confirm whether we have sacked Reebok as our apparel sponsors? and New Balance will take over. This rumour floated on another thread and was never confirmed and there was no source

Why watch the replay?? Any distortion TV cameras might have on the colours is irrelevant. I sat on the fence all game and had no problem, and most importantly, the players didn't appear to have any problem. This should really be where the discussion begins and ends.

On your other question, I understand we have been negotiating with New Balance and I know we haven't been happy with Reebok. Even if this deal has already been signed the club obviously can't make an announcement until their existing contract with Reebok expires.

  12. mate, nobody in here is arguing the fact that we deserve to be playing on a sunday, that is obvious

the part that a few of us are peeved about, its the 4.40 shithouse timeslot.. can't see a single reason why they cant have it at 2.10 (or even 1.10!).. broadcaster is free, ground is free.. what else do you need for a game?.. i dont care when the other games are played, but there was no need for 4.40

Nothing wrong with the 4:40 slot. In fact, I think I almost prefer it to 2:10. Frees up more of the day to do more things.

  13. The idea that we can just freely move players we're not sure about to the rookie list every year is very misguided. It worked with Meesen & Newton because no other clubs in the comp had any interest in them. If we make a practice of delisting contracted players each year and subjecting them to the uncertainty of the draft, particularly with the prospect of being moved to GC or GWS, we will lose the trust of our playing group.

Furthermore, I can't fathom where the idea that Cam Bruce would want to move Clubs to 'extend his career' comes from, considering he'd be a frontrunner to assume the captaincy next year should Junior retire. Fantasy stuff.

  14. There's a falcon that patrols at the G for an hour or so one day during the week.

They didn't seem to arrive until midway through the last quarter yesterday, I'm not sure how you stop them arriving at a particular time.

  15. I know I'll cop some flack for this, but I'd love to see Hughes in this week. I think he fits into the plan with our forward line.

Rather than having a direct target with a few smallers guys around, our forward line is based on having medium marking players leading up to the ball. Such as Green, Bate, Sylvia, Dunn and Petterd when not injured. Hughes would provide another target and can take a strong grab.

    Therefore. In - Bail, Hughes.

    Out - Cheney, Watts.

Considering Hughes hasn't played in weeks due to injury and hadn't been in the best at all prior to that and Gawn is scheduled to return this week which relegates Danny to the rookie list I'd say your flak copping is pretty justified.

    Mind bogglingly bad call.

Still not as bad as the calls for the return of an injured Spencer to somehow 'nullify' Sandilands?? I'd love to hear how a rookie-listed project player who has years of development ahead of him in any way whatsoever could be credited as a nullifying factor on the best ruckman in the league.

    In - Bail

    Out - Cheney

  16. Rich v Port is played earlier because Port have to travel. On the off chance they got hot out of nowhere and pushed for finals the consideration of having to travel on the Sunday is what gives them the early timeslot.

Incidentally, what's so bad about the 4:40 Sunday slot??

You can rest assured that if one of the 4 Sunday teams got into 8th they would be given the Sunday arvo finals game in Week 1.

    Non-issue.
