  1. Hi everyone,

One of my close friends is a Carlton member (please don't judge me), and we want to sit together at the game on Friday night. We are both club members and so are both able to get tickets to sit in our respective club members area, however is it possible for us to get seats together somewhere using our memberships?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'm hardly a superstitious person, but if we win this year's flag, I might believe that the curse is/was real.

How long has it been since we won our last premiership - 57 years

How old was Norm Smith when he passed away - 57 years

    Spooky...

Interesting as well that Norm Smith coached Barassi, who in turn coached Blight, who then coached Goodwin. It's as if Norm Smith passed his coaching ability down the line and it has finally returned home to Melbourne.

i feel like the guys could've got around him waaaaay more than they did after that goal.. bit disappointing, but seems to be a thing that MFC isn't really great at (apart from the harley love-in last weekend).

I think it's something we do pretty well. I remember noticing the same thing during the game, but it was because of channel 7's coverage rather than melbourne players not getting around him.

If you check the video in the link below you can see many more melbourne players come up to him and I suspect even more came up to him after.

The most interesting thing about training apart from who's in rehab is which groups players are training with - backs, mids, forwards.

It will be very interesting to see which groups Jones, Petracca, Jordon, Hunt, Fritsch, Sparrow, Petty, C.Wagner, Lockhart, Smith are training with.

Surely Petracca trains with the midfield group all preseason

  5. Very sad to see him leave from a sentimental standpoint, but getting May is huge and I think gets us closer to a premiership in the next few years.

Can't blame Jesse for wanting to move home after what he's been through and hope he doesn't get booed for it. Who knows after his 3 year contract he might decide he wants some success and try to come back as a free agent?

Got there late - Nev was there so was JV and Lewis

JSmith and Hunt doing drills with the backline group

TSmith working with the forwards?? And Hannan

    didnt see AVB

Who was Fritsch training with the backs, mids or forwards? If he wasn't training with the backs, it probably means hunt or smith will come in.

  7. Hearing the richmond supporters scream "yellow and black" at the Anzac Eve match every year even makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. We have our own war cry that over the last decade of mediocrity has fizzled into non-existence. I think this Friday would be the perfect chance to bring it back and would give the players goosebumps hearing 50,000 melbourne supporters scream "what do we sing" as they ran out onto the field for their first final in 12 years.

As a collective, does this forum have what it takes to bring back our old war cry? Are there members of the demon army or perhaps the debrief who could help spread the word to make this a reality on Friday night?

Nicely handled by the captain:  Managed to give Viney a message ("The scuffle...came about after Viney broke a crucial unwritten rule: don't smash your teammates in training) and downplayed the episode at the same time! ("At times, it's a split second decision and accidents happen.")

Our captain gets better by the day!

I believe that's the author of the article saying that, not Nathan Jones. If you look at the article there are no quotes around it

Full contact training is a necessity at times & in our case we need to make sure the soft is well & truly pushed out.  If we had of lost a player for the next 2 weeks 'sore',  then its worth it to instill the hardness that's required & been missing in the red & blue for such big chunks of years,   since Smith the Red-Fox got tossed on his ear..

so I hear you fear of losing a player to injury thru rough contact at training...    I say so what,   sow toughness,  is what.

No problem with losing a player 'sore' for 2 weeks (though I'd still rather not). The big problem is losing our CHB for the year when he needs a shoulder reco.

I remember being at that game, his third quarter was exceptional (capped off with tat mark and goal) and he was one of the main reasons we were able to break even in that quarter

He's bought property in Melbourne, his girlfriend lives in Melbourne and he's spent years establishing future career options in Melbourne (with his post-football career).

For all intents and purposes, Melbourne will be his home once his time at Gold Coke Suns finishes. He will be the Treloar of season 2016.

Yeah I have heard all this, I just find it hard to take an article seriously that gets simple facts wrong

  12. Last bit of discussion on this bloke was close to a month ago and he is almost certain to go in the top 10 and possibly to us at 3.

Why? Are we too focused on type and not enough on genuine footy talent? Seems to tick the boxes of competitor and has skills.

You've got to admit it would be a bit funny if he ended up at pick 3 and we'd ignored him for weeks.

It's a fascinating draft. I love the suspense. I'll be a bit sad on Tuesday when it's all over.

I agree with everything except this last sentence, I can't wait to be put out of my misery!

On Francis when I first found out we were trying to trade up for pick 3, I was convinced he was the reason why- just because his competitiveness and size exactly fits our drafting profile under Roos.

  13. For me, what seems obvious is that there IS a big gap between the mids, but that there is little between the tall forwards, and much more likely that there will be a better KPF left at pick 7 than a high quality mid.

I'd happily take Parish at 3, then wait for whoever is left of Curnow, McKay or (hopefully) Weideman.

I see it the other way around. I'd much rather get Weideman than Curnow or McKay, but I would be more than happy with one of Parish, Oliver and Francis.

  14. It's been a common misconception for a long time but I can promise you James Kelly was the most likely pick if not Molan. ND asked him for the toughest KP player in the draft so Craig didn't really focus on top end smalls but when I asked him about Dal Santo he said he had others in front of him.

The other interesting thing he said he'd have taken Robert Murphy with pick 5 if we had retained that in 1999. Disappointing because Murphy is my favourite non MFC player.

Yep Utah, I was always a fan of Neale. Great man and so much better than he was given credit for, particularly at the time. History will treat him kindly although life hasn't.

Dissapointing for you, probably not murphy considering the career he would have had if he came here

  15. After watching the first half of the u18's academy vs Werribee, I would be more than comfortable taking this bloke with pick 3. Two things stood out to me, while he may not have the best 20m sprint time, he does have extremely good acceleration. Twice he received the ball flat footed with a Werribee player bearing down on him, I was certain he was going to be tackled to the ground, both times however he was able to turn, take a few extremely quick steps and buy himself enough time to find a target. Extremely impressive. This brings me to the next thing I noticed about him, his speed of decision making in tight and vision are exceptional. Nearly every time he won the ball in tight, he was able to flick out a fast handball to a team mate in a better position.

I still worry about his size when coming to play afl, but if he can bulk up enough to play in the middle I think he will become a very good afl player. If he is always too small to play in the middle, I think at the very worst he will become a very capable outside midfielder, who is also capable of winning his own ball.
