  1. Rose-coloured glasses or not, comparing Naitanui to Scully or Trengove is amazing. Both demons possess wonderful football brains and execute (almost always) their skills efficiently, whereas Naitanui (as some have said) is patchy with disposal, decision making and many other facets of his game. Being a brilliant athlete won't necessarily cut it for a decade at this level. He will have to improve his know-how, execution by both foot and hand, and keep himself involved in the game for longer periods of time. By comparison, Watts has all the skills, the decision making and will have the midfield at his disposal to forge an exciting career at the MFC. Do I regret we took Jack instead of Nic? I'd take Jack ten times out of ten.
  2. Hmm. If we could kick 15 goals we'd be winning every week. We consistently keep opposition totals below 90 points.
  3. I'd agree with the tag call, but I disagree with the second. So often (particularly over the past 2 or 3 seasons) it's been painfully obvious that he's the only one creating and that all his team mates have needed him to spark them. He's not playing behind the ball like he did last year. It's simple really. He's spending the majority of games in the forward half, where he doesn't necessarily have the room to be as creative (hence his little dinky passes). I'd try starting him on a wing next week.
  4. So incredibly overrated though, it's infuriating. He's certainly exciting to watch, but he does one or two things all day and doesn't touch the footy anywhere else around the ground. Taking him pick 2 was such a gamble. If I were West Coast I'd have taken Hill.
  5. Sums my thoughts up exactly.
  6. He absolutely killed us. When a bloke like that plays well on you, you know you're in trouble. And who the [censored] was on Rosa? He had plenty of time about 7 or 8 times to pin point a pass inside 50. So many easy possessions today.
  7. The umpiring was horrible as usual, but we didn't help ourselves a lot of the time.
  8. Perhaps some of JB's disposal was slightly off, but whose wasn't? I thought he was probably in our top 5 or 6 still. He gave a contest, chased, tackled and harassed.
  9. Once again we started poorly and it really cost us. But really, we didn't work hard enough all day. We didn't use the ball well, make the right decisions, all in all an ordinary day. Even more disappointing than the North loss.
  10. I thought Jack played a decent game today. First game back, his hands were really good. I sit at the other end of the ground, but can anyone tell me did Watts dispose of the footy cleanly when he was tackled in the first quarter and rolled one through? From where I was it looked like he dribbled it through, just before being pinged.
  11. Yeah, he certainly still reads the play well, but he was shown up for pace early on today.
  12. Agreed.
  13. He was certainly horrible today and has been quiet the last three weeks.
  14. Actually, I know Jack's sister and she told me a few months back that he is 198 cm now.
  15. Personally, I see Colin as a midfielder, who can pinch hit forward. He's generally tough over the ball, beautiful kick, good decision maker etc. Rest him up forward, but don't regularly start him forward, IMO. He certainly has an ability to play forward for an entire game, but with the forward depth that we've arguably built (none of them can get out on the park together though), he's a midfielder for mine. When Tapscott comes on and Morton, there will be a real competition for spots. We're starting to see it already.
  16. Fantastic news. Let's get about another 15 signed up now. And Jesus get Scully signed up.
  17. I wanna know who gets dropped for Morton's return? Bartram?
  18. Agreed on all accounts. If he'd been a second earlier then perhaps he might have had a chance in the contest.
  19. I disagree. If Newton had a similar return he'd be considered for selection. I don't think it's a necessity for him to be dominating the VFL. In the next couple of weeks it's time to get him into the AFL to give him some more AFL experience. That's the only way he's going to begin to dominate and I don't expect that this season. I think at the moment it's just a question of fitness and developing his engine for Jack. If the FD feel he's sufficiently fit enough to carry out a full AFL game, then they should pick him. Are any of the Essendon young key forwards ripping up the game yet? No. And they've played quite a few more games than Watts. West Coast at the G -- I couldn't imagine a better start for him this year and I won't be surprised if he is picked this week.
  20. I didn't have a problem with it as such. In wet conditions he was merely avoiding injury to himself or avoiding giving a freekick away, as there is no way he would have been able to tackle the bulldog without plunging into his back.
  21. Wasn't it Hudson too? Not a small bloke by any means.
  22. Agreed. Absolutely redundant, it seems.
  23. The umpiring was terrible last night, but it's an equally terrible excuse to use for not going to the football. The umpires aren't going to decide every game we play and there will be some that they may even help us win (although I haven't seen this for a while).
  24. Bruce was fantastic last night, he made an occasional error here and there (mostly ineffective disposal by hand), but he really did play a brilliant game. Set up numerous attacks from the back, with creative use of hand. He needs to continue this and cut out the missed handballs that he often commits across half back and the wing. Last night showed he still has an important role to play.
  25. And quite a few more games on free to air next season.
