  1. Yep, agreed. And the Blues will continue to stockpile B/C graders. They're never going to win a flag that mob. They're also going to miss out on a high draft pick this year. SOS has to get everything right in the next few years and looking at his golden access to GWS and all those misses, I wouldn't be too confident if I were Carlton. This might sound a bit strange, but I just wonder how heavily Melksham will feature in plans next year now that we've found Hunt. Hunt is a better spoiler and quicker than Melksham. It'll be interesting to see how that works. I wouldn't move Hunt off the half back flank unless the opposition find a way to blanket him (like St Kilda did) - in this instance, I'd move him forward (like we did). The more I think about it, the more I think we should play Melksham off half forward and utilise his speed in our press. I just wonder if Goody's plans have changed with Hunt's emergence. And I actually think our backline has some really good balance if you add Hibberd to Jetta, TMac, Frost, Omac and Hunt. A nice blend of pace, height, better kicking and solid one-on-one play.
  2. Can I please have them both, Grandpa?
  3. Sell the farm? Who mentioned selling the farm? One first rounder is hardly selling the farm.
  4. On the back of stronger offers from Carlton and Richmond.
  5. I think we're viewed very differently within AFL circles than supporter commentary and the majority of journalists would suggest. You only have to read a few articles or listen to a few media pundits talk about our players/list. I don't rate Terry Wallace, but he is clearly a fan. As is Wayne Carey. The majority of the media and opposition supporters (and some of our own) won't give us any credit until it's earned (fair enough), but our list has dramatically improved and the only other young list in the competition I'd take over ours at this stage is GWS'. As McCartney has said before, we're 18 months behind the Bulldogs, but what must be factored into this, is the base we're coming off. The Bulldogs had a bunch of leaders who had played in multiple prelims, who led the way for their young talent coming through over the past 2-3 years. We had pretty much nought, without being too unkind to Jonesy. It may take another season or two before we're taken really seriously, but I DGAF. As long as we see progress and continue to strengthen our list. Which we will.
  6. I saw that too. What a rubbish post. I sometimes wonder what people are doing when they're at the game. Are they watching it or do they only become involved when goals are kicked?
  7. I can hear the press conference at the end of this year. Prestia: "Melbourne have a really good young list and I want to be apart of that. I grew up barracking for Melbourne and I want to make sure they're back up the top where they should be." During December, Weitering decides he too wants to go to Melbourne, the club he supported as a kid and does a handshake deal with Mahoney to come over at the end of 2017. Who says romance in footy is dead?
  8. I reckon Prestia will choose us and I think he'll take less. I don't think we'll overpay for him. The club is run professionally these days, despite the St Kilda result.
  9. So we have a mediocre list now do we? Righto. I'd choose Melbourne over Richmond every day of the week and take a $100k less to play in a team on the rise.
  10. No, I saw it. He was a lot cleaner and more desicive in tight than he was earlier in the year.
  11. I'd go Mackenzie personally, but he is 28, so Brown is probably the cheaper option in that age bracket. That said, Mackenzie isn't getting a look in at the moment.
  12. We kicked our last goal against Freo at the top of the last too. I've watched "All the goals" on the MFC website most weeks and I've lost count of how many times we either don't score a goal in the last quarter or we score one. I think it probably comes down to a lack of leadership, concentration and inexperience. We still don't know how to bury a team.
  13. That's not entirely true. He played midfield when he came in this year. I felt he struggled.
  14. Roos' job was to come in and improve the list, training standards, build culture and morale and you'd say he's ticked all those KPIs easily. We were never going to play finals this year with such an inexperienced team. GWS with all the talent in the world showed it takes time to play four quarters consistently. I don't like wheeling out the youth card too often, but it is a legitimate reason for our inconsistency. It's not like Roos is still playing the same team from 2013/2014 and we're wildly up and down still. This is a vastly different team. Finals was aspirational this year, but if you're not aspirational as a footy club, then why the hell would you bother? I also suspect that aim was solely to placate the fans. The FD and board would have known with the majority of our players having played under 20 games, we were never going to give the finals a serious shake. I think what's helped us stay relatively close this deep into the season, is the evenness of this year's competition. This makes it more frustrating when we get beaten by teams that are eminently beatable and are on our level, at least in terms of ladder position. Our major shortcomings will be rectified over the coming 22-44 games, both in terms of new blood on the list and improved output from those currently on the list.
  15. And it's now 2016, 26 years later. Time to move on, guys.
  16. ANB is no Tyson. I'm sorry, Steve. Tyson is a natural ball winner who had an extremely ordinary game. ANB's best game was in a forward pocket against Geelong last year. Outside of that he's shown little capacity to win clearances at AFL level. I'd be bringing Oliver in though. For who, I'm not sure. Probably VDB.
  17. Poor post. You can't blame supporters for being gun-shy having seen so many failures. What's more, you can't lampoon a poster for saying Gus won't be elite because he's only played 20 games of football and then in the same post say he'll be a star based off the same output. That's farcical.
  18. What is intriguing about this is that I'd agree he seemed off the pace on the outside, but on the inside he probably played his best game for the club. So how can a guy get the job done in the clutches, yet struggle on the outside? Unless he has poor peripheral vision. And then those concussions add up...
  19. DE is a rubbish stat, but his kicking over the last fortnight has actually been really good. He set up a number of forays forward yesterday with his attacking kicking. When he hits his targets, it opens the ground up big time. There's just not the greatest margin for error, which is probably why the ground opens up so much when he does make them.
  20. Doesn't get it enough yet, but yesterday was arguably his best game in the jumper. I loved him last year, but struggled (albeit due to injury interruption) early this season. Wasn't entirely sure whether he would make that elite category or even stay on the park, but yesterday's return has me excited again. Viney, Brayshaw, Oliver, Petracca, Tyson, with outside support from Stretch and further inside and outside play from Prestia ( ) and we'll have a seriously exciting midfield. They'll certainly know how to win a clearance. It's refreshing to have guys that can win clearances.
  21. Losing yesterday will not be a deal breaker.
  22. Supports what I thought I saw then. Didn't realise how many clearances he'd won. That's elite.
  23. Thought he played his best game for the season yesterday. The speed caught up with him a few times on the outside, but he was great in close.
