We need outside midfielders with pace and small forwards to lock the ball into our forward line and crumb. Gryan Miers would be perfect as a small forward, but might go before our pick now after his 7 goal BOG grand final performance. If he's there at our picks, he's a perfect choice and could play AFL seniors quickly if he gets through preseason. He's got skills, hits the scoreboard regularly and is a smart ball user who brings his teammates into the game with quick hands too. Matthew Ling would be a decent option as an outside midfielder. He's got good pace, puts in defensively and has decent skills. His weakness is finding ball and consistency. In an AFL club environment he could be taught where to run to get more ball and thus build consistency. If he's available at any of our picks I'd take him. Petrucelle is another quick midfielder and definitely has potential, but his kicking is all over the place and I'm not sure if it can be fixed. Ed Richards has scope to become a good quick midfielder. He's played more down back as a rebounding defender, but he has good pace and kicking skills and could develop into a midfielder. Would be a good target.

Bulldogs did well to land him. He's a pick 2. Obviously a big talent. Get him back to Victoria where he is around family and friends and is comfortable again and he will blossom. Trading 2nd round picks in a weak draft is easily worth that risk.

Disappointing we weren't able to upgrade some of those 2nd round picks. Multiple clubs have done picks swaps near the end here. Tigers traded pick 15 down to Brisbane for similar 2nd round picks. That should've been our trade right there. Could've gone to draft with a first rounder or passed on the first rounder for a decent player or prospect such as Schache. As it stands we hold multiple second round picks in a weak draft. Not much chance any of the players we pick there will make it. Disappointing result all up, but good to land Lever.

Love where he keeps the ball alive by bumping his opponent over the line the gathering the ball and firing off a quick handless to a teammate. Also love how he smothered the ball over the line to lock it in their forward line and prevent the rebound. He's got footy smarts and goes when it's his turn.

Love he said his aim is to play afl seniors in round 1 2018. Didn’t give an answer about building up or consistency or anything, he’s said he’s gonna train hard and aim for round 1. Love the confidence. This kid has talent and could wind up a good player for us. Definitely feel he is more talented than a lot of depth we’ve had the last few years.

Great get for pick 66. As I said in this thread yesterday, if he can stay healthy and have consistency in his life, he could become an asset for us. Welcome to the club Harley!

Paid overs and let quality go for unders. The late pick shuffling are irrelevant unless tied to a player trade as they will produce speculative kids at best.

Best of luck to Jack at Port. He deserves better than the club gave him from the start. Had far to much pressure placed upon him, didn't handle the media correctly at any point, and then had his development thrown around and never got to settle in a position for more than a year or two. He's an obvious talent who the club mismanaged. He deserves better, and I hope he flourishes at Port. Good luck Jack and thanks for the memories. Must've watched that Queens Bday goal 50 times over!

The club better be packaging that pick 31 up with some other stuff to advance ourselves in the draft or land another quality player, otherwise it is a poor trade and we've been robbed this trade period.

He's obviously had some issues with struggling to be away from a close family back here in Victoria. What doesn't get mentioned as much is his serious wrist injury. He would've gone first round if it wasn't for a wrist injury that limited his underage campaigns. When he got to Freo as a 17/18 year old, he had to have surgery again to clean it up and couldn't touch a footy or lift a weight for 8 months. This meant he couldn't build his body up properly in the gym and would have lost touch not being able to handle a footy either. It was a very serious injury that robbed him of 2-3 years of development. Once he got past the injury and actually played, he shone in WAFL footy and was decent for a debutant player in his few games at AFL level too. With time to develop, he could definitely be an asset for us. He's similar to an ANB type, but more natural talent. If he can work hard, stay healthy and continue to develop, he'll become best 22 IMO. For a late pick, there is no downside with this trade.

This kid obviously has talent if he went pick 2. He seems very similar to Weiderman, but slightly bigger. If all he will cost is a second round pick, then it’s a risk worth taking surely? Could become a solid key forward for us, spreads the pressure and expectation between him and Weid, and removes the pressure to be the number 1 key forward straight off the bat as Hogan already holds the mantle. Seems a good option for a 2nd rounder?

Not surprising and seems like a logical formality. He signed up for coaching role with the club during the year. Considering he has barely played at AFL level for 2+ years, likely won't get another AFL game anywhere ever again, and has a coaching gig already in place... makes sense he retires from playing and focuses on his coaching gig. It would be a good result for the club to get him to retire from playing to clear up a spot on the list for the upcoming draft. Garland can then properly commit to coaching for his future.

Harsh but fair assessment. He’s a small forward who isn’t very quick, has average skills and just lacks magic and intensity. He barely finds any ball and doesn’t hit the scoreboard often. Hen he can stick a tackle it’s a decent tackle, but he just runs around aimlessly and barely gets near the ball or man with the ball. He’ll need to improve dramatically next season to retain a place on the list, but I’m not holding my breath.

Reported today that we are considering giving up our first round pick this year AND first round pick next year. If we cave and do that trade, I'd be disgusted with the club. We hold all the cards! Adelaide have an OUT OF CONTRACT PLAYER REQUESTING A TRADE ONLY TO MELBOURNE FC. If we somehow overpay, despite having them over a barrel... god I'll be ropable. Have some balls Dees!

Schache comes across as being a less intense version of Weiderman. Similar size, similar build, similar ability, but less intense at attacking the ball in the air or laying a tackle. Thus far he has showed bugger all at AFL level, and seems to not have the mental temperament to cope with AFL as a lifestyle. I wouldn't bother with him unless he came super cheap. Looks like a bust of a draft pick IMO.

I thought the same thing and was terrified! He had the eyebrow twitch going and delivered a lacklustre speech devoid of passion and just demanding people give. Was not great... If Watts is going to nominate Geelong, hopefully we can get pick 20 out of them. Maybe need to shuffle a late pick with them to seal the deal. Pick 33 is not worth the trade and I'd be disappointed if the club caved and gave him up for that.

PJ didn't speak. Bartlett did and was quite good, gave kudos to a number of people who don't otherwise get recognition for their hard work at the club. He also gave a shout out to Jesse Hogan for showing such resilience through extremely trying circumstances. Goody did speak for a few minutes before presenting the awards for the top 5 players. His speech was fairly lacklustre IMO. The message he was drilling was we are on a journey and need to work hard, but we have heard it all before and he delivered it without any passion or vigour. When compared to say Roos, it definitely felt lacking. I actually think Goody appears to be a great football brain and great planner, but doesn't come across as a great motivator. Wondering if he can improve that with further experience but it worries me a tad.

Reportedly is down at Geelong today and has been in a meeting with them for over two hours at this point and it seems very positive. Looks like he is off to the Cats. They have picks 20 and 33. Can we get pick 20? Trading him for 33 seems like a loss to the club. 20 is acceptable.

Could we try Watts plus a 2nd rounder for Z Jones? Jones has pace and mongrel and would fit in perfectly with our young list IMO
