Correct. http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2017-11-22/taylor-has-list-of-names-ready-to-go States no rookie picks and will use 4 picks in the draft.

Saw him play mid year, was match against Peel. He would've had maybe 7-8 touches, kicked a run of the mill set shot goal and doubt if he laid a tackle. Wouldn't have even known who he was if it weren't for the chatter surrounding him as he'd booted a ton of goals to that stage of the season. He was seriously unremarkable that day. Based on that match I saw of him, he'll be a rookie pick at best and likely never make it AFL level. He has seriously poor work ethic. He refused to work up the ground when it wasn't working up forward, he didn't chase or put on any pressure at all when his opponents won the ball, he stood around hands on hips and not bothering to lead if a defender went anywhere near him. He makes Jack Watts look like Nick Reiwoldt on steroids in terms of work rate, effort and hunger. Not surprised to read Pennant St Dee's post saying his club Subiaco had to send someone to pick him up or he wouldn't rock up to training etc. I'll be disappointed, shocked and disgusted if the club drafts him after weeding out players with poor attitude and work ethic over the past few years. He's already 21 too, so as a mature age player you'd hope he had developed that work ethic and desire to make it.

He has average speed, offers no defensive pressure and offers bugger all around the ground. He has a great leap on him and is a decent shot at goal, but he lacks far too much in other areas. He’s worse than other similar types currently on our list. There’s a reason he’s been overlooked in the draft before and a reason he’s being spoken about as a late pick or rookie pick. There will likely be a big go home factor with him too so I hope the club doesn’t bother with him to be honest. There are other better, well rounded options for us to target.

He doesn’t put on any defensive pressure or work hard for his team. Hats why he was overlooked. He ca kick a bag if given space, but likely won’t have much impact at AFL level IMO. Will be a late pick air most likely a rookie pick to a WA club.
  5. Hopefully we win a flag by 2918! I’d like to see one in my life time, and preferably not have to find a way to live 900 years for that to happen
  6. Love where he keeps the ball alive by bumping his opponent over the line the gathering the ball and firing off a quick handless to a teammate. Also love how he smothered the ball over the line to lock it in their forward line and prevent the rebound. He's got footy smarts and goes when it's his turn.
  7. Love he said his aim is to play afl seniors in round 1 2018. Didn’t give an answer about building up or consistency or anything, he’s said he’s gonna train hard and aim for round 1. Love the confidence. This kid has talent and could wind up a good player for us. Definitely feel he is more talented than a lot of depth we’ve had the last few years.
  8. Great get for pick 66. As I said in this thread yesterday, if he can stay healthy and have consistency in his life, he could become an asset for us. Welcome to the club Harley!
  9. He's obviously had some issues with struggling to be away from a close family back here in Victoria. What doesn't get mentioned as much is his serious wrist injury. He would've gone first round if it wasn't for a wrist injury that limited his underage campaigns. When he got to Freo as a 17/18 year old, he had to have surgery again to clean it up and couldn't touch a footy or lift a weight for 8 months. This meant he couldn't build his body up properly in the gym and would have lost touch not being able to handle a footy either. It was a very serious injury that robbed him of 2-3 years of development. Once he got past the injury and actually played, he shone in WAFL footy and was decent for a debutant player in his few games at AFL level too. With time to develop, he could definitely be an asset for us. He's similar to an ANB type, but more natural talent. If he can work hard, stay healthy and continue to develop, he'll become best 22 IMO. For a late pick, there is no downside with this trade.
  10. Reported today that we are considering giving up our first round pick this year AND first round pick next year. If we cave and do that trade, I'd be disgusted with the club. We hold all the cards! Adelaide have an OUT OF CONTRACT PLAYER REQUESTING A TRADE ONLY TO MELBOURNE FC. If we somehow overpay, despite having them over a barrel... god I'll be ropable. Have some balls Dees!

Good endurance runner, good pace and agility, average decision making and skills. He does suit our needs and would be good depth if we could get him cheap. He comes from a good successful environment and has a few years in the system now. Depends if the Hawks are just looking to off-load him cheap or wanting to get value out of him. Wouldn't offer anything higher than a 3rd rounder.
  12. Come across as?
  13. He's worth nothing more than a token late pick. He's a pick 38 from two years ago who hasn't developed for a number of reasons, so his value has only dropped from there. If he nominates us, we trade pick 60+ or just get him for free in the draft etc. Anything more and we've caved for no reason IMO.
  14. Could add depth to the list and become a decent player, but holds bigger all value to Freo in a trade sense. Token late pick from whichever club he decides on.

Close this thread and re-open it in 2 years when he becomes a free agent
  16. Sad end to the career of Trengove. His first few years were great and showed such promise, to the point he was made the youngest AFL captain in AFL history. He was neck and neck with Dustin Martin for the first few years, but then injuries ruined him. Supremely talented player, cross between Jimmy Bartel and James Hird. A friend of mine who's currently an assistant coach of another AFL club said he was viewed by most clubs as one of the best young talents in decades, leadership, skill, bravery, he was the full panache. Shame to see his body let him down and prevent him from fulfilling his potential. Thanks for all the hard work Trenners.
  17. With us signing Frost and also rumored to be interested in Jackson Trengove from Port, does that indicate we are out of the race for Lever? If not, then it should just be pick 10 for Lever and move on.
  18. Reckon he is going to Collingwood and we're chasing a mid like Gaff now.
  19. Our lack of killer instinct has just cost us finals. How predictable and disgustingly pathetic. We got 30-40 points up against multiple teams during the year and just took the foot off the gas. We let teams lowly teams dominate us for patches (Pies 1st quarter, Freo last quarter, Brisbane last quarter, North last quarter etc) and just expected we could show up and play for 10 minutes and get the win. I'm [censored] sick of it. The club needs to get serious in a hurry. The club publicly stated it was aiming for finals in 2016. It failed. The club publicly stated finals for 2017. It failed. Next season we obviously MUST make finals. Top 4 should be the pass mark. If we lose a game where we are heavy favorites, the players and coaches should have to forfeit their match day payments. We cannot keep failing and drastic measures need to be taken if we do not meet the minimum requirements of finals football. Get serious you [censored] soft [censored]!
  20. I was one of the few on here defending him earlier this season. He's been a whipping boy for idiots in the past, but the club knew what they were doing when they traded him in. He's got talent and experience. In the past he has played his best footy as a half forwarding rotating in the midfield. He had a top 5 BnF finish in a team that played finals when playing that role all year. The coaches tried him at half back and it didn't work out. As soon as he was moved away from there and has been given roles up forward or in the midfield he has excelled. He's done some good tagging jobs on the likes of Pendlebury and Zorko when needed. He's accumulated a lot of ball in the midfield when given license to roam. He's one of the few who currently goes for kicks more than handballs, which makes him valuable as a link man heading into 50. He's also chimed in with multiple goals repeatedly when playing up forward, including kicking important long goals under immense pressure to give us wins. His long kicking for goal from 50-60 metres is probably the best at the club alongside Bernie and Petracca. I also reckon he's laid the most bumps of anyone in the team this year. Love that he asserts himself physically without giving away bad frees. A few of our players could learn from him there. He's definitely best 22 and his finals experience and maturity will be valuable come September. PS The following statement from the MRP gave me a smile. "Jake Melksham was also charged with misconduct for pushing an opponent into an umpire in Sunday's clash against the Brisbane Lions." Glad someone is trying to do something about the umpires. They are beyond incompetent and bordering on corruption this year!
  21. It's always a worry going by recent history, but the trouble for the Hawks is they have nothing to give up. They gave up anything of worth to get Jaeger last year. They're without first and second round picks this year I believe. They don't have any stars young enough to have currency for trading. It'd be a miracle if they somehow landed him for Bruest and a 3rd rounder. We're in the box seat now for Lever if he is coming back to Victoria. We have the picks to trade, and decent developing young players who we could trade also. No-one like an Oliver or Petracca, but guys like Neal-Bullen, Harmes etc who could be added as a sweetener and play a role for the Crows. Exciting times ahead regarding this situation!

Won't leave the Saints but he's an obvious talent that could fill a need for us. He's got outside class and has proven he can win ball and stand up in big moments. He's had a great year and would offer a lot to our side... but he won't leave the Saints.
  23. It's not a problem, yet. Our percentage shows we haven't been able to put teams away. Lots of our matches have been close either way this year. We're able to compete for the most part, but we're not able to put teams away when we should yet. Yesterday was similar to the Port Adelaide game. We absolutely dominated play but didn't convert that into scoring. We recorded 22 inside 50s, and statistically it was the second most dominant quarter by a team all year. Despite that dominance, we were only 30 something points up. Then the second quarter we were still in control but not taking our opportunities again. We should have legitimately been 60 points up during the second quarter, such was our dominance. The fact we weren't meant the Saints were able to build momentum and come back. The game should've been over in the 2nd quarter. As I said, it's not a problem yet at this stage of our development. In the future, we will need to build that killer instinct to keep the foot down and make sure our dominance converts to scoring. Like other good teams, we should be able to end games by half time against lesser opponents. I think with more maturity and synergy between young core players we will start to win by bigger margins that more reflect our dominance in games. At this stage in our development though it's good we are managing to stick tough and win close games. In 2018, I expect improvement in this regard though. First of all, we need to beat teams like North. The fact we still drop games to teams like North, Freo etc is definitely a mental application issue which needs to be addressed. I also expect us to start winning bigger next year. No more hard fought single digit wins against teams like Carlton. We should be able to put the foot down and have the match over by half time.
  24. That was his best game for the club. He's been one of our best players in every game for the past month. There was a hard ball get he won in the last quarter when the game was on the line that possibly won us the momentum and match. He can smell finals action and is playing accordingly now. He might not have had as good a year as some were hoping, but he's come good at the right end of the season and is showing his leadership and maturity now. Bring on September!

You'd hope so but our name hasn't been linked to him at all really. That's either good (we don't have any leaks at the club) or bad (we aren't a chance to get him). He'd be perfect as our most pressing needs are a quality outside midfielder and a quality key defender.
