  1. i really want whomever to be thoroughly enthusiastic about it. There will be a lot of money splashed but I dont want it about the money, In the end its nothing about the money and all about the challenge. In a crude way I want the incoming to tear this club a new one ; in the sense i want the players to not know whats him them. Not so much in a nasty way I just want the sheer professionalism and top shelf impetus to hit hem squarely in the guts. i.e This is how we play football...this is how you ( players ) WILL play football.
  2. Im not fussed nor would feel guilty about anything given. Im looking at the perception of others and how that might well colour and form the decision of the League. This is purely footy politics.
  3. thbt... I can see it as a ruse for sure but some things the afl will still need tacit approval for. They arent an absolute law unto themselves (just nearly ) If we hadnt been pinged for (insert whatever it was we were done for ) then it would be an easy sell. It is i all reality a ludicrous situation and hypocritical proposition. In the end , another kid doesnt help us tomorrow.Thats the path/solution/gift we need Somehow getting another ready made. Probaly only one aveneue and thats a mini draft. Efectively somehow the afl needs to find a way that we can snare another good-to-go midfielder. everyone knows thats what we are lacking and thats what any new coach will rub their hands at.
  4. A lot of folk may be getttng excited about another pick and why wouldnt you . I do think however this will be extremely hard for the AFL to sell if its a round 1 bonus. The powers that be are testing the waters to see how this idea might float and at present its been shot out of the water by numerous others. I have the notion that Gil & co will be forced to find an alternative solution. Thats fine by me. I, as it happens, dont think we need a PP. We just need a FD and coach that can develop what we have already and whats coming/going to come through. We arent bereft of talent we just havent much of a clue as to haw to get the best advantage of it yet. If we get one ( PP) then well, thanks. Take it as not but I cant see this being the likely outcome. I think Empire Vlad will need a plan B here.
  5. As I get older I realise theres a lot I dont understand ( a lot I do , just thought Id get in first ) but theres much that happens and in reality you just have to think, well , how about that. So if the AFL in its magnificent wisdom ( or panic of our demise and associated knock-ons ) thinks its a good idea to provide truckloads of folding stuff and to add to that byfurbishing a PP who am I to argue. Not that what I would say would matter. In reality just one word suffices : THANKYOU
  6. I really dont put much currency in much of what the various 'possibles" might say publicly just at the moment. Everyones chasing shadows except for those actually involved. They play it differently. Doesnt suit the media...but why would they care
  7. I think this is partly where some of our efforts have gone awry in the past. Putting carts before horses. For mine we need to get the team playing a good game, from here success and wins come. From a better sporting image will come the memberships and corporate interest. i think Jackson understands this.. i.e get the FD right and the rest flows. I would put memberships and sponsors in a similar place to players playing footy. it will all come from good coaching and dept directions. Whomever coaches I want them there for the footy, not for us, not for the ads etc. Footy first.
  8. Im kinda warming to Williams. I think he has everything we havent had.( for far too long ) Hes an out of the box , left of field operator who has passion andthe abilities to instill it . Who has experienced more than a couple successful clubs and managed to bring that to bear in his own endeavors. He seems to understand how to bring kids on . He seems adaptive and his teams seem to play a good brand of quite disciplined footy whilst allowing 'good instinctive players" to play on those very instincts. I can fully understand the rush to Roos and if its to be Paul, well thats ok by me , but you have asked who I would pick. Chocco currently. He is a bit animated and gets fired up and Id find that refreshing from the 'wooden' types of late.
  9. Nothing wrong with a few people actually wanting the job. Adds to the interest. Whomever gets it is going to need to really really REALLY want to be there. Its going to be a grind.
  10. A very considered pov. I think theres a very important aspect that you highlight , that there are nuances of differences and that there are times and places where these occur and apply. All separately and together at the same time. Often observers and commentators attempt to paint things with too simple a pallette.. It wasnt this, or that...or on and on as you might imagine. There are always two sides to a coin and there are two sides ( at least ) to any moment of play. One team has the ball , one doesnt , but that can change in an instant and therefore the mode of play might change, might. One instant the ball isin traffic the next its switched to an open piece of paddock. You can see a pattern, or lack of really.. The game is a kaleidoscope wrapped in a patchwork quilt. I often feel too much training focusses on too many set plays and strings. You have to have these as subsets of any game plan but ive often considered the best teams, the most accomplished and successful ones have one thing in common. They have players who embody the essential skills of the game together with an inherent understanding of how to utilise them in the game as it swings from one play to another. I see it too often , especially with our lot is player X gets ball moves it towards player Y ( in the prescribed and written manner ) only for someon e to upset the applecart and then the next bloke, lets call him Z looks like a very close cousin to a stunned mullet as hes all lost at sea, All because the practiced scenario has come unstuck. Golly, who'd have ever thought this would occur. Good teams have more than a handful of good football brains on their playing list. They compensate some others who are a bit lacklustre but are good worker ant types. I want Craig , in his remaining weeks , to sow some seeds and from these I want the players to start thinking and playing more from instinct and common footy sense . You have to have a framework to a gamestyle but I think weve attempted too regimented a gameplan. Most gameplans start unravelling after 10 mins.
  11. AFL website has nothing really...rehashing yesterdays rumours and suppositions. And that may well be as its organised i.e to just keep it ticking over without any real news or substance.
  12. As has been noted elsewhere by a number of others , nothing,NOTHING will become official ( for anyone ) til the board is in place and the funding sorted. I think it was Old Dee that suggested an August date for any coaching "announcement" and Id think that would be quite appropriate , all things considered. note however there is a difference between announcing something and organising, nutting-out, aggreeing-to-terms. PJ and what remains of the Melbourne hierachy have shown a new ability to keep stumm . There is a new air about the MFC...its called keeping mum. There are a lot of lines to read between, some feint, some bold. Itll be smoke and mirror by design until the powers that been deem it otherwise.
  13. WJ i suspect a few chooks have come home to roost as a result of the warts and all approach of the new caretaker regime.
  14. Our best "other" jumpers were based on Red. Tending towards ; stuff it, just play in our normal jumpets. It worked for years...even in the mud. Yes Martha , they once got dirty
  15. unless youre essendon apparently
  16. you werent/arent alone. Cam certainly seemed to have the soul of the club at his heart but I fear it was more a case of worrying about the wallpaper and not so inclined to see about the cracks in the wall.
  17. And I do tend to agree to a degree. The thing then is that despite any efforts by CS to do some you beaut holistic approach to this area of the business. It wasnt done in a successful way.. i.e it seems it got somewhat buggered up. Im not so much about the intent...as the result. As with many results to do with the business oat the MFC it seems not much went according to the plan. Yes the La Rue stoush is old. But the building of bridges seems new. One is always wise to treat media reports with a decent degree of "im not too sure about that" but the underlying currents are there , like it or not .
  18. Melbourne sponsors backlash over Demonsmore dirty laundry unearthed. We really werent particulalry good at a lot of things. Thats what Im unfortunately starting to realise and yes Im fully cogniscant that many of these items were brought to the attention of us Demonlanders. As mentioned in the article, its a good thing that we're overhauling this club.
  19. prior to a certain persons departure I commented to the good lady ( upon her questioning ) that I didnt think wed probably win another game for the year. We still might not , but my thinking is we just might now. Today being a case in point. A littlel ray of sunshine...has come into my world !!!! ( well we can give it a whirl !!! )
  20. id be happy to take the 4 points......by......4 points !!!
  21. Indeed ....some are quite odd not you nor I of course..lol
  22. Theres theatre here. Only at the end of Act1 currently
  23. and yet almost the most encouraging aspect. Most of this is between the ears stuff. That can be addressed; It can be changed.
