all very curious this. I hear time and time again that you are supposed to turn up to play, that you must be out there to play to win. If this is the case then you must take it up to the opposition even when you might correctly suppose they are a little better than you , and probably especially then. If we turn up to play the Catters with the view that its pointless taking on Ablett then why even other to compete...youve concede..youve lost already. Someone must be sent out to hassle him..to dog him..even if it only reduces his effectiveness to 20 posessions..then its a job done. So much of this game is between the ears... if your mindset is already set to why bother..then..why bother

Get real !! the joke isnt that that only 15000 odd turned up..its that is was ever going to much different given the game.. Melb v interstater.. given it was at the arse end ot the weekend..given it was attocious weather. The joke is that any have the temerity to call into question the colours of supporters. What sort of primitive neanderthal existence to some have that the only thing in their lives is attending a football game. I was young once.. I attended everything where red and blue existed.. I had nothingn more in life to look forward to in so much as that was my only interest. strangely as you get older na dfamilies come along and work is fragile and money is called upon to go further and there are other priorities then some folk will ..WILL...decide there are other things with more importance than freezing your arse off watching Circ de Solace !! into the twilight hours. I love the footy.. have had red and lue lood in my veins since it ever mattered..and always will. But like a lot of other people there is more to life. Dont have a go at crowd numbers but by all means lobby for better scheduling. The club has my money.. and I buy silly stuff too. If I or others choose to go or not go that is only the business and concern of those alone. Again..as CB submits..Id be more worried over what the MFC deliverd as footy yesterday

Juice Newton- Criticisms, Comments and Kudos

this is just the prolem..we persist with players that only work on confidence. A well drilled ale and capale player OUGHT to be ale to carry out his JOB DESCRIPTION whether ot not he is having a good or bad day. He/they are there to do a function. Winning teams have players who can still muddle their way through and deliver even on days when things are a bit low.We need to learn this and get these players -

The damning thing about Juice is that as a forward he cant kick a staight ball from a standing start to save himself most of the time. Not a good thing really for a forward I would suggest -
yep..tend to agree CB Folks ought to be more concerned with how a team is developing , playing, building etc than whether or not some loke or other wants/can attend a game. Im more concerned as to why a team of supposedly professional and skilled athletes cant find the goals for asking !!

Pretty much sums it up. He has some skills..and moments..but isnt anything remotely like what you would call a package. He wont be alone at years end looking for work -
ABSOLUTELY SHOCKING CROWD NUMBERS !!!!!
beelzebub replied to True Believer's topic in Melbourne Demons
all things considered crowd was good. Not everyone really enjoys artic weather. Many have other committments at that time slot. Personally im glad i didnt go... that would be 2-3 hours of a life youd never get back !! -

The litmus of a good team ( well certanly one of many ) is that forwards kick goals..rather simple isnt it. They need to be opportunistic and accurate. They need to do this consistently. Juice doesnt..if he can he will be valuale..if he cant..well !!!!!!!!! -
again..for those incapable of reading a complete thread..yes..kicking to a contest can be better. Few contests are 50-50. When in ascendency and numbers prevail you either recoup the ball of force a oundary throw in in your neck of woods.. Somewhat better than the outcome as happened ??

sense Bailey wants to blood Jurrah and Watts ..and maybe a few others in the back half of the season.. Allows more time for preparation as well as some sense of continuity into next season
-
Probably goes to why Jnr was chosen..alas he wasnt on the field
-
at who's cost..Juice's ?? if true of course ...lol

Difference betwen holding position and killing momentum. Essentially Bruce totally misread the situation.. this seems borne out by the visual of his ( Baileys's) consternation and subsequent benching. Bruces incapacity to make many decisons correctly in play is a worry..detracts from all his effort. Good teams.. winning teams take other teams apart when vulnerable..for mine to attempt a innapropriate "icing" of a game is tantamount to panicking. when you have 30-60 secs in a qtr by all means slow it down..ice it even...not when 1/4..(at least ) of a qtr is left.

Anyone who has ever player up the front end will know that part of goal kicking is natural ability... to some degree you either just know where the sticks are..or youve spent many many hours probably from the time you could carry a ball down the park, kicking and kicking at the uprights until it 'becomes' second nature. After you hone the raw ability..you have to BELIEVE , whilst in a real game, that you can kick those goals; the same ones youve kicked over and over in practice. So there is the confidence/belief aspect. Some people are just gifted.. I wasnt..it took a lot of practice..lots..to make that pill go where I wanted. I think Miller is strangely only NOW starting to beleive in himself and his ability to kick. This in itself plays with my head that guys can get so far into a top level career without this just being a given. In all likely hood the more Miller backs himself and gets the 'snags' then he will become more potent. Conversely if he has the yips for too long then t will al fal lby the wayside. He's not a naturally good kick..he needs a lot of practice still..and a good coach. Actually..who is, if anyone the kicking skills coach at the club ??
-
now we know he didnt just kick a goal.. and we know he stuffed up big time.. but persit with your strain of logic if you wish...it just doesnt stack up to what HAPPENED !! does it ??
-
maybe the most insightful thing youve ever uttered
-
yep the call by Bruce was SOoooo correct he was whisked off the field moments later !!!

Okay...am sure at least Jaded and Queen will smirk... He ( Frsoty ) has stepped up...quite a bit. Lets though not lose sight on the idea that he had to either. But plaudits etc where due. He is playing a much wider game and not so hesistant ( not brilliant yet..just not so hesitant ) to back himslef into a forward movement of his own doing. This addds so many strings to his options and results speak for itself. He is not alone in need ing many many hours in front of sticks with a good kicking coach. Its a vast improvement for sure and he is to be heartilly congratulated for it. I actually liked his left foot poke at the sticks with resultant mark by none other than Chairman Jimma ( that alone ought to be recorded for posterity..a classic piece of imagery !! ) Just keep it happening Miller.. keep applying..keep believing..keep improving... you just never know it might rub off on some others !!
-
The problem with good ol Bruce IS his decision making at times ( many times..lol ) I suppose all of any game is about tthe better options being taken rather than anything leading to a frivolous turnover.
-
nothing wrong sometimes in roosting it along the lime to a contest..pushing it out at worst..thats a lot closer to the goals and puts the defence under a lot of presure. When youre playing with the upper hand you can turn a lot of these plays into opportunities. It further plays with the oppositions confidence and wears them down. There was NO need for any sort of TEMPO at this point..just more pressure..more pressure
-
interesting that we are not the minnows.. ROOS 27288 and streets ahaead of the Pups @ 24528 !! Go Dees
-
we were on a big roll.. confidence and belief at a high. At this juncture we ought have gone for the jugular. Had we plied on a handful more the Toiges would have fallen into an asolute heap. who in the word starts defending a win before half time ?? That Richmond were amssing to make a tilt back was obvious, but WE had the ascendency and it was handed over.. terrible decision making.

There lies the rub.. effectiveness is hit and miss..more fleeting than furtive. He has much to make up for. -
Bartram - a it slow...not afl speed of awareness..kills him...Otherwise hes ok Bate - not the worst game...not his best..seems out of position..not sure myself where to put him though Bennell - ooh... there's an excitement machine in the making here..hope its not flash in the pan..and to think..only likely to get more assured and better still ) Bruce - a conundrum is Bruce..he really does try..and hes very trying too !! lol.. just abysmal decisions !! Davey - welcome back Aaron ( od old ) Dunn - much better...keep going son..you may just have it Frawley - not a bad shutdown effort Green - :( bugger !! Jetta - there are moments..not as poised as his mate..hopefully will become so... Johnson - hasnt found that real urgencyagain, yet.. Jones - top effort Martin - effective McLean - the next captian is putting up his hand Meesen - wasnt brilliant..wasnt woeful..cant make heads nor tails really Miller - confounds me this loke...he played some damn fine footy .took the game on..much better Moloney - Beamed !! Morton - still has you thinking theres more to come Newton - someone teach him to kick properly Petterd - getting his game back Rivers - a fair game.. has some lapses of concentration and prone to a niggle.. youre better than tis Jared !! Sylvia - better...jury still out Warnock - not best game.. a learning experience..he will be better for Stynes...mark of the day !! )hehehe

This it..if he can apply , present, and be effective against a higher calibre opposition then many might start rethinking him. I appreciate you can only play the team that shows up...but they were more a bunch of Snagglepussies as compared Kings of the jungle !!!
