  1. I think this is the actual concern for me. Its not so much I think as to whether he will unfortunately suffer any more setbacks/injuries but when. ANd if its an inevitable then for mine Irather just rotate some youth through these positions and give them a taste and idea of what they need to do, the level they need to master etc. As ironic as it was it wasnt til Meesen was given a few games at the top level that he actually found his stride. We need to offer others the same opportunity I feel. This year isnt about winning its about trying to win, that is getting the team into positions of winning via better experience and cohesion. How many times do we hear from players.. "Im starting to feel like I ought to be here"..that takes time and games
  2. This not meant as a Whelan bash..its a stance I have towards logical development of our list. Can someone/ferris/anyone expalin to me what if any is the point in playing any end of career player with limited time left as against players needing time over the paint. AM happy to listen
  3. There ought to be nothign precluding you ( a team ) from having all contracted up and thus precluding any poaching. However it would be possibly a gamble of a higher degree to tie everyone up in such a fashion. The other issue is whether certain players might not want to keep their options open. Thats the reality in all honesty. We may think everyone simply wants to always play for the red and blue but in reality some will be looking towards their own situations and what the future can provide. Such is life
  4. keep in mind..those that dont understand the past will be doomed to repeat it as the future !
  5. lol.. the wink was to infer there is more to the question than appears. Where Im heading in this thinking is : Is it not unreasonable to include any venue that was called upon to host NAB cup matches then or even greater a stratch any AFL sanctioned pre season matches etc. Whilst I appreciate this is probably a stretch to far it might be the sort of ambit posturing that could be adopted in spiteful negotiating etc.
  6. Is an AFL venue any ground that has hosted an AFL sanctioned and fixtured event ??
  7. Ricky's only real problem is as you say hammering nails with his kicking. Im not sure if GC will even utilise a grab from EVERY club. If he goes he goes. The club would manage
  8. that would have been here 3AW Melb/North
  9. Can anyone who actually is familiar with the wording and implications of the contract between Docklands and the AFL please convey whether the AFL is only forbidden to play games at another venue of its own control. i.e a purpose built AFL owned ground . Is this why the Gov is murmurring about another multi purpose footy ground , which of course could be "hired " for AFL games ? If this was the instance is it that as long as the AFL doesnt own or control the ground in question then any field could be used ?? Very interested to know the actual cans/can'ts thanks
  10. must have some competition at the ruck or they can just grab it and do what they will
  11. and a few more 30410
  12. isnt it on record that Watts wont debut til 2nd half
  13. Its a fair observation but consider the context. It was Geelong in a frenetic game. Thats big stage stuff and he had the fumbles. But just as his earlier efforts were a bit ordianiry his later fforts were more demonstrative of his poise and ability to kick. fair's fair a run in the magoos is no punishment for him at this stage of his career, just an opportunity to refine his game and put into practice things he's already learnt from playing big time footy.
  14. bugger.. bugger damn
  15. Im not sure that Vlad sees further than his next big thing. Jackson is an imposter as concerned intelligence. Vlad realises, at least he does this ,that many of the directives in place and past f-ups are costing clubs. And so they , the AFL make easy of it and "bigheartedly" offer assistance. Big whopee do !! Its much of there doing. Jackson is a dill of the highest order. He taught Nero what to do. Vlad is anA1 student of same blarney The unfortunate consistency is that the AFL continues to think for themsleves and fails to cede the reality , or proper respect ,towards the clus that nake the up the league. We are probably a thorn in their side, Imagine how cumbersome it must be that there is a club with more claim to the game than them !!
  16. petjud and others there is a dangerous trend especially amongst the press. That is they for reasons best known to themselves set themselves above many who also watch and observe the game. Somehow they are afforded elistist stauts are far from reuke.Often they are as amiss as the rest of us. Why do I mention this ? Because they will then applaud or call to question the various travels of all those that pass as footy players. Strangely so do we. We here in forums will question the various aspects and abilities of players . In particular we will here call to task those that parade in Red and Blue. Many of us..I expect yourself included may sit in stands and observe and form our own opinions for some its a recent thing , for others its a many generational past-time. Thing is I dont think any of us get it perfect as we are only observing one facet of a die in action. The press is paid . They need to make comment and do it in such a afashion as to make it seem above us. Seldom is this really the case other than they invariably DO watch more games than us and often games we would have no intersest in. Dont be sucked in. Give cautious credence to your own eyes and how you accredit players. We as a Demon whole probably give more time to tearing apart how our beloved are fairing than any who are paid. But we are biased The funny thing is we always seem to see different things . So too do the media. They are only human with same foibles as us. They dont always getit right.
  17. just ponder those words for a moment ... done ? add to that this is a man who thinks a team in west sydney is a goer !! how do you feel now ? just a question
  18. last year they were awaiting the beating hooves of white knights.... strangely they're still waiting.. so I might suggest things arent as you suppose
  19. There are no red roos in Tassie... just grey... and possibly bluish ones...who knows
  20. Im inclined to agree. Its seldom that anyone plays exclusively in one particualr mode or the other. Some are known for their in and unders but same said people might when th occasion presents take an "outside" ball. I feel there is far too much empahsis placed on such "BUZZ" pidgeon holing.
  21. just an observation..make of it what you will. This site is often trawled by some of the media.as believe it or not amongst teh tirades and posturings there is much quality discussion and reasonable debate You would have thought this might have well grwon some wings in the press by now. Cant see boo anywhere yet. Still ..who knows...we certainly dont yet. Might be premature to write his memorial
  22. would they then be POWERADE !!
  23. I would hate to see North leave the comp. Having said that they ( Roos ) rolled the dice and thought they had good numbers appear. It has come to ..well, not a lot. I agree we are far from being in smug psotion. We have much to do to consolidate the good work of many and the trust given. But unlike the Roos the signs are good for Melbourne, granted signs alone dont a given make but if our signs are good, then other than a biased Kanga youd have to think the signs coming from Arden street arent too flash. ( at present ) Theres something very smelly about this Jackson crap...very smelly indeed <_<
  24. North has distinct problems going forward..they are very real. The cavalry they were expecting must have stopped somewhere for a change of horses and then completely forgot where and what they were riding for !! There light is dimming a bit and should they fall into a pit as a result of poor form and unrealised drafting then they will be very much in the land of poo !! They are still careering about like a punch drunk fighter , still not sure of their future. Cracks appearing in team and cohesion of club and coach. Despite the murmurrings of Vlad and Boy Bobbin there may not always be ten teams in Melbourne. 9 and 1 in tassie will work for all concerned. Take it as read ..the next team in Melb to falter..that isnt called Melbourne...might start booking a cabin on the Spirit of Tasmania
  25. yes... they could certainly look back upon this one day and roo their lost opportunity to have survived
