  1. Aside from that super-duper-goal those kick-ins were pure footy enjoyment. I mean how ofter is that going to happen where you just push all logic and gameplan aside and just let it rip !! That was a marvellous present to Wheats I thought...and i enjoyed it too.
  2. but then again..we were the REAL winners werent we !!!!!!
  3. Ive already noted on several occasions my firm beleif that we will trade. will we trade with the betterment of draft picks as its primary goal or just to take advantage of wahtever weather befriends ( or otherwise ) tradeweek. I think DB is looking for 6 new faces.. I have a gut feeling we will end up with 4 picks at draft and exercise one rookie pickup ..this plus a gain from trade will be 6. Im not sure how much we could hope to improve pick 18...but maybe 34 and 50 with judicous addtions can be turned into a mid 20 pick. Pure conjecture here though. Some teams simply need nyouth and more youth in fact almost any youth, they just need numbers... We can look more to quality.
  4. Over the recent journeys of this club some very good players have pulled on the jumper and run out to Demonise the oppositionand yet in recent times we've been ( as a club and its spectators ) starved of that....well many call it the "X" factor...or 'star' quality. We have lacked someone exciting that brings a little bit of football magic to the game. Davey amongst his earlier outings had it but all too soon others worked him out. Jurrah brings this to our game now. No disprespect to Aaron but I dont hink many will have it so easy to negate Liams ability to affect a game. Just too many strings to too many bows. Its as though here's a man who's Dreamtime is shaped as that of a Red Sherrin...not a red rock !! Many observers of the game ( Melbourne or not ) will one day pinpoint the time that Melbourne began its course to Prermiership destiny as the moment Liam Jurrah took to the field as Melbourne player #48. It may well be fired on by others as well..but it started that day !!
  5. Youre right..I noticed from that very first outing he has that bit of a niggle about him. He is very much at HOME on a football field and not reticent to inform others about it...
  6. yes..probaly helps.... I had better get better glasses me thinks
  7. Though yesterday agaisnt the Saints was always really a foregone conclusion it was a lot closer to disaster than the scores indicate. Jurrah was extremely damaging near goal and more the hope this coninues nextyear .. but just as well he was dragged up the ground. Clever move DB.. much the same with allowing Roo some largesse by removing his impediment in frawley. Jamr far too competitive in the ruck..ah yes.. stick him in the goal square. I firmly beleive had we needed to win yesterday...it was ours. I would have thought is reasonable to think we could have amassed 8 games this year. Certainnly expect no less next
  8. he'll be too old for the Rising Start next year.....bugger...hed walk away with it
  9. This years membership record at 31508 is an incredible achievement for so many reasons but we cant rest on our laurels and continue the mutual warm and fuzzy back slapping ad infinitum we have to continue to grow the club and get even more into the paying fold. I dont think 35000 for 2010 is unachievable. Personally I have found the monthly direct debit method of paying the club a very handy method. SO too it seems many others and if you know of anyone , or if indeed it woulod be the difference between your god sleves retaining membership of forgoing it then this is a great alternative to the larger once off payment especially as we're often somewhat poorer after Christmas. A good ploy by the club is that should you have chosen this payment method for 2009 then it will just roll over into 2010 unles yo either tell them to stop by opting out ( and you have to do it ) or my upgrading. Point is you have to cancel..they dont have to chase. Hopefully this will result in retaing a few thousand who might not have coninued on for what ever reasons. I dont think for manyof us that we have genuinely sen so much promise before a season and having it based on realistic expectations instead of lind biased hope. So after the finals...and as the hype of trade and draft weeks build lets see if we cant convince a few more to join our bandwagon. Christmas is coming ..lol.. get in quick
  10. Maybe its just me...but i definitely got the idea that Bailey's quite keen to get two mids with those two picks...he's just being coy about saying it yet just in case some one else makes a move to emulate cream. Well surely the MFC would already be talking to Scully...wording him up.. making a few this'n'that sugestions re diet and gym etc.
  11. That Carlton Melbourne game was touted as the "Kreuzer Cup " from memory as the loser won him !!..tis water under bridge now:) but point taken as we would have had the PP last year. Im not terrible disappointed we didnt get Nic Nat for as he will be quite a something as a player I dont hink he'll end up quite as good as we mayhave first thought. Seems a bit awkward ....hasnt the flunen skills of the 'exceptional "player. Time of course will be the judge. As long as we use this years 1 & 2 wisely I'll be quite content
  12. Dan... you possibly arent familiar with the likes of Magumbwa of Sth Freo.. he has a sort of similar backgound to Daw. and tsut me..hes made up for not growing up with footy. In some respects though he started later Daw has been playing footy since his teens of rht emost part and thats an earlier start to some of these Basketball football converts !!
  13. either youre on drugs.. youve got the wrong bloke..you espied condemned's response to Joey or just incpable of lucid thinking. Might be all. Where do I hate McLean ?? You were at the same game I take it ?? He certainly wasnt amongst our best but thought he did some good things. Care to explain..can you
  14. That ought to prove quite prophetic there Red. He was good today and yet still makes some ugly stuff ups.I too think he'll lift when complemented.
  15. I definitley thought he ( Rivers ) was a lot closer to his old self as compared some of the woefull outings of recent times. He ISNT his former self, but was better. Id still trade him though.
  16. Bailey couldnt afford Jurrah up front all day !!!
  17. Bartram - Good,Bad,Average Bennell - needs another preseason Cheney - showig a bit Davey - a quieter afternoon Dunn - a confidence man Frawley - not too shabby Jamar - like to keep Jetta - needs more work Jones - not too sure ( hows that clanger count ) Jurrah - just bloody amazing McDonald - nearly specky legend !! McLean - a quieter achiever Miller - not his best Moloney - go Beamer go Morton - more of this Rivers - much nearer self Robertson - thaks mate...sayonara Sylvia - better earlier, handy Wheatley - supe -er GOAL !! Whelan - thanks McKenzie - he'll be ok Spencer - look to 2010
  18. It was the best of times..it was the worst of times.. A tale of two cities ?? No, just one and two of its teams, strangely not as far apart as some seem to think. On a Sunday afternoon with clouds occasionally threatening to remind me why I should have remembered the wet gear ol' Bub and his turncoat daughter ventured to the G for the annual Dady/Daughter Dees- Saints fest. All the way in I was reminded of our lowly status on the ladder, of how it was going to be a painful afternoon of how the Saints were going to go marching in. Well at quarter time the daughter wasnt saying a lot, Dad was worried and the bookies must be licking their lips at all the money thrown at the Sainters for a flag !! Is this the mighty Saints I asked her ?? Here we had two teams playing for two very different outcomes. But someone must have swapped their scripts because it certainly wasnt going to anyones plan. Any newcomer to the city watching their first game would have been mightly confused had they been told it was actually the Demons who were the bottom side as they were making a mockery of the Saints claim to the minor premiership. The two teams and indeed their respective followers will have left the ground with possibly quite diferent views to their teams as compared to that which they might have held prior to the game. Melbourne is full of promise and StKilda is full of questions. The Halo boys will have thought their date with destiny was all but booked this September but coming away from yesterdays game they might be checking travel bargains instead. It was a very unconvincing display from them. But for some late game junk goals there was nothing to get excited about. The Demons on the other hand had a day of opposing emotions. It was farewell, au revoir, auf wiedersehn goodbye... to three great champs of the club. Each had moment in the sun ( what there was of it ) . Wheels turned the clock back a little and who will forget the rousing cheers as Wheats banged his boot from the goal square sending the Sherrin towards the middle...or Brocky's handball to Robbo giving him the open goal. !! You had to be there. If that was a little taste of what was then we had more than a sample of what is to come. Morton ruled that ground for a lot of the game, someone must have forgotten to tell him that Melbourne were 16th. Liam Jurrah., i'm laughing trying to find words. Was it the nonchalent kick over the shoulder, was it the 'hand of god" mark was it the defensive pressure or was it the rousing congratualtions as he came to the pine ?This guy is X Y and Z factors all rolled into one and I firmly believe we havent seen anything really yet, he's just warming up. Give him some support up forward and we are potent. It wasnt all plain sailing. There were some silly mistakes, a lot of over-handling at times. But if I were to ever tend to the cynical was some of this simply 'insurance' Did somewhere at some moments little switches flick and remind players of what was at stake ?. We could have won that game and any scouting observer would have been returning to his/her respective lairs with valuable intel, the Sainters are stuggling. I believe Copperfield consults Bailey these days Im not sure how many times the "Grand Ol' Flag" played but Im not complaining. Funny I predicted we'd lose by 7-8 goals cant wait for 2010
  19. His "hand of god" mark must be a contender for mark of the year.. Was so sublimely elegant ..and how simple..to think ..all you do is stick you hand up to where the ball has al but passed you and steal it from the opposition. Even he was a little surprised..but not totally I noticed.. :D
  20. Borck makes better decisions ( in the main ) than Jones to date..thats Jones's major shortcoming..he does stuff it up magnificently sometimes.
  21. dead right my bad.. Didnt see that one when looking up previously....bugger must admit that changes teh landscape a bit doesnt it. We're really going to have to do our homework. pick6 ..hmm
  22. the bastard...doesnt he have any original thinking !!
  23. yep...fist pick at everything
  24. quite possibly..am not privvy to the real thinkings of Sydney ..lol.. but Miller might fulfil some role for them. Im not actually sure that he was touted for his forward(ness) in going there back a whiles. He can present..he can mark.. he doesnt fall over terribly often nor get injured that much.I will say this for him he does give 100%...just not sure what that accomplishes ;)who knows ona smaller ground ( in the main ) he might not have much option but to kick for sticks !! Really was offered up only as an option/suggestion. Who knows.. Barty might intrigue them. Melb might think Jones (or similar ) is a man too many in the middle with others..trades/picks/developers coming in etc. Roos might see something in taking a punt on Newton for a 3rd round ..or part of a package.. he might like the line breaking Buckley for all I know. He saw something in Shaw ..and look how he's blossomed....all but fav for their b&f.. So again.. there are things we dont know that always seem to arise come trade time. Its not often the obvious that happens in that week .
  25. What the tribunal has effectively advocated is that seemingly efforts that result in head injuries will be penalised irregardless of intent or opportinity etc. The tribunal itself rules the bump was reasonable. I.e it was fair play .But he got hurt. Well heres a newsflash..its a contact game and you might get hurt. Could even die. You could be attempting a smother and get kicked in the head.. So what does that become ?? You take( or not ) a specky and land awkwardly on your neck head..and thats you...never walk again. Am not trying to be glib..just emphasising how quick and easy fortunes can change. Someone coathangers you.. thats bad.. thats reportable. deserves everyhting... you bump someone fairly and youre disadvantaged because you just might be taller than your opponent...wtf is that ?? So whats next..we line up all the sub 6 footers at one end..give them a ball..all the talls down other ..give them a ball.. ?? Its football. , its a fast hard contact sport with bodies crashing all the time. There are rules to direct with regard to intentions and play. You can never predict or constrain accidents. SO ..its al Buddy's fault for running that way..and not Cousins ?? Yes the whole notion ins nonsensical isnt it. The AFL have created another Catch 22
