Again... ..tis is really simple.. What wil lhe gain from playing the Magoos ? what If he serves pennace in front of a few hundred as compared the searing scorn of thousands ?? He can canter at half pace at Cranny and still look like hes trying...there's teh easy out. Chasing an oppo all lday and having to best him... well Rhino Id suggest hed need to be trying a bit harder.. I do agree..effort is the issue. Its accountability he needs \.
-
how predicatable... Rhino say balck to anothers white.. ffs mate..its tiring. You want him up and running.. well in this id agree.. But hes of littel use in teh magoos ..is he.. what effect does he have at the G if hes at casey ?? NONE.. What he needs needs to relearn is accountability. He needs to stick to a task and make it his, He might actually learn somethig by trying to outguess and neutralise the opposition instead of sooking that someones picking on him. he needs to get his head inside the enemies and undertand what theyre doing to him...then he might be cleverer at evadiing and dealing with his own tags. Make the hunted...the hunter.. but youd never get that. so whats your solution bright spark ?? come up with something.. dont sit on the fence forever taking potshots.. thats lazy... maybe thats why you afford Davey his easy out... you know it well.
-
This is it in a nutshell.. He needs to show he can manufacture something.. It may notbe wins..etc.. but he needs to conjure somethng to indicate he has ability. So far its just a show worthy of the most baffling enigmas.

just for the record.. I played with the ladder predicitor I have this as of end of round 12 12 Melbourne P 11 W3 D1 L7 93.9% 14 pp onwards and upwards Demons :rolleyes"

I think its too easy to just send him there. Yep ..you squibbed.. you balls up more than a handful of opportunities...go be the bad boy sookilala in the magoos. In all reality he can do this on his head. Sure it would be notionally humiliating but would he really learn ? MNaking him front up again at teh G..and giving him a truly punishing role ...that might ram a better message through his skull... i.e there is no easy punishment here.. you WILL do hard time. Playing seconds is a doddle for someone like Davey.. thats...TOO easy for mine.. I see it as.. dont let him off th ehook with an easy weekend...make him go out there and do "something " properly... Much harder...ANd by doing so he might earn himself some respect.. and come away with some SELF-respect....That might be more useful in the long run some will disagree... thats OK

Re garding the notion that Bailey didnt forsee the vacuum that is Juniors departure one has to summise ..who did ? We all sat around here lauding the the leadership qaulities of this bloke or that. Our only real disagreement was on who was better ( and worse) etc. Not that there wasnt any !! Quite possibly Bailey was similalrly minded. Weve all been proved wrong. No one is fit to wear that captains cap. Bugger !

I so want to punish thi sguy. I so want to banish his to the archipeligo that would it would seem, going to the magoos. I want him to hurt as much as i hurt when i watch him now. But then that becomes all about me. Possibly the more scolding a punishment and more effective a remedy is to require that he does actually run out for the seniors but that he is made accountable for everything. Let him not hide in obscurity . That might be too easy an out for him. He could run and dance and sing his footy song at Casey. It would be all too easy. Maybe he is very much simply out of sorts. It happens. it happens to all of us in our lives at times. We get into a funk and its bloody hard to get out of it.. He may wel lbe sh!tty about a lot of things. Its all culminating in his onfield performances ( a kind description ) Im now leaning towards the notion of re-inventing him. Instead of labouring him with soome Hurculean task this week give him a much simpler one. One he CAN wrap his teeth around and one he might succeed in. This might become a platform for restablishing himslef. We know he has talent. No...demoting him might be too simple and too easy . Lets play tag the tagger. Lets get him to nullify someone. It might just exorcise his Demons.

You can hear the Carousel that is the Coaching Merry-go-round warmng up even now. Seasons end should prove volatile.

I was wondering when any focus would return to Bailey. I genuinely feel sorry for the man...as a man. Hes really on a hiding to nothing right now. Id hate to be in his position. But a lot of it must also be of his own doing. The Ralph peice aside, for it really only skirts the things we already know, the one singular question that holsters all others is still the one without an answer. Can he coach ? No one knows. I find that amazing really. There is one line that Jon writes that in reality is Dean's damning. " Tactically, Bailey has been trumped by his rival senior coaches" Unfortunately I tend to agree and when all things are said and done we cant afford to have a Coach who 'll be consistently outsmarted. For that is just plain dumb. Deans cause isnt helped by the fact that his most senior players are letting him down left right and center but at this I also wonder whther he is at all instrumental. is there some sort of revolt, or is it a malaise thats hes allowed to build ? Short of a miracle he has to be a dead coach walking. Unless there are upteen Lazarus's lurking in the lockers I see it as a long shot that this team can get itself off the canvas and give any respect to the colours. Bailey's been cruelled by injuries (possiblyunfairly ) and this limits his options. But this will be his Trafalgar, his Waterloo.... his bunker Hill. It will be the HOW in terms of what he does not so much the WHETHER he wins, that wil count toward some explanation of the original question. i.e Can he actually Coach ? I still wonder about the constituent enquiries iin all of this as well.: Why cant Melbourne run out week in week out with a positive attititde ? Why cant we string 4 qtrs of decent footy together ....ever ? Why do we seem mentally soft ? Why arent basic football skills invoked from the outset.? Why are we seemingly going backwards ? Why does it require a game , any game to seemingly need to be our "line in the sand " before we give a sh!t ? Why do glimpses appear of a 'real footy team" only to sdisappear as quiclyr as they materialised ? and Dean why does everyone still laugh at us ? Can you coach Dean ? I Mean REALLY Coach ? Show us..its all in your court. I dont expect to win every game but I want to see if you can take what littel is left and orchestrate a rout or two. To see if you can outfox an opposing coach here and there . You need to show us that you really have some Footy Smarts. I hope you can and that you do. ALl we at Melbourne want in terms of a coach is someone who can. it can be you as much as the next man. But if you cant...there will definitley be a NEXT man !!

snoozing...or in denial...or berating others for the temerity to utter the truth...or espousing repetitive rhetoric about needing to stand up ( whilst lying down )

irrespecctive of what occurred moments befoe or after...that pic does sum it up really. Pres...not happy jan.. Coach...looking like a beaten man. I sort of feel sorry for him...his charges are really letting him down. But is he complicit in this to begin with ? anyway as a 1000 word image..it was apt -
Well the Land Rovers in the garage... Skis in for a wax and sharpen. A pleasant chill in the air. Can't wait for QB lol Ffs well be lucky to win too many games for rest of season, let alone those 3. In the words of Zachary Smith.. "Oh the pain!!!!!"

Bit early for rock bottom. Give it another 3-4 weeks

Rivers isn't untouchable.. He's just plain untradable. Now !! Ought have unloaded him years ago but most of you lot wouldn't hear of it. Told ya so !!!

Similar thoughts there RR lol beat me to it

Wonder if we can trade Davey, seems to have lost any real value being out there in red and blue. What was that Aaron about no one giving less than a 100% ??? Hmmm ? A shadow of his former brilliance. Seems ability runs inversely to paycheck

You know , sometimes youre just plainly foolish . If you'd bothered to read most posts you will have read I suggested Scully to exactly that ; sign a one year extension. But please maintain your ignorance, most befitting.

Brock who !!
-
Yep...his value as a 'follower' outstriped even his more than handy Rucking. He would bob up everywhere and often play the 'post' in a link up play often through the middle. Actually Whitey did similar things. But it was as a leader of men he truly excelled. Never the Captain, but youd follow him through thick and thin as you knew he'd NEVER give in.

With respect to the OP ( as much the rest of the thread has gone tangential) . Am I happy enough to get sponsorship money for the club from Deesbet ? YES Am I compromised by this ? NO Do I think it would make any difference in the great scheme of things if DeesBet didnt exist ? NO...ppl would just go elsewhere. I agree with Jaded ( sorry ..lol ) We arent the moral compass of society. We can educate our players in many things, responsible gambling amongst them , but thats really as far as it goes.

in answer to the poll.. I marked C...the AFL doesn t give a rats...it probably didnt think all sceanrios through in the first place and doesnt really care now its happened etc. They are all about franchising.. Its business to them. They want to broaden the horizons and collateral damage to established clubs is just too bad for them. Vlad just wants to win the p!ssing contest !!
-
Now...this is just a hypothetical...I do preface the following with that qualification. Could there be anything to support the notion that instead of chasing Scully ( over a cliff) we actually take the compensation ( picks ) and the money saved and put that towards securing other emerging stars and future funding those that are imminent such as Viney , etc ? Or will we really have enough in the kitty and under the cap to retain all we want to anyway ? This sort of pressure is felt amongst some clubs...are we immune ? Might I politely ask some to engage brains before shoving the boot in Despite what some may think is my stance..Id rather that he stay. But if it were to become all too hard....or all too ..just not equitable , nor fair to others..then this might be a plan B approach ... emphasis...MIGHT thoughts ?

The obvious difference in all of this with Collingwood is their players were happy to come to the table now. In so doing it ends any speclaltion ( for this year ) . Quite different I would have thought.
