Charlie Spargo
Yeah excellent posts from Bob. Maybe with our forward setup there is too much burden on guys like Spargo and Pickett to do the pressure stuff? I don't know, seems a tough one but I'd definitely keep him in there for now.

Charlie Spargo
Sometimes You'll watch him applying pressure and doing nice things but then others you'll check the stats and notice he hardly had a touch. I'd persist with him for now but he has to offer more over a whole game.

VFL to Merge with NSW & QLD State League
How the heck would this work? Where's the money? Some of these clubs have tyrefire facilities and operate in the bright red. Sounds like a bunch of Hollywood hogwash, but there's some reasonable sources here I guess. Edit: After studying the article a bit more I can see how absorbing the NEAFL may work. Think i'd prefer the reserves path but not sure. Would like more info.

Gonna be hard to displace Andrews from FB but he's making a real good charge.

Game plans, tactics and all that jazz
Totally nailed it, Goodwin talks all the time about how we want to be a contested ball team that wants to lock the ball in the 50 yet the ball comes back out repeatedly and when we actually do force a stoppage in the 50 we rarely do anything with it. I couldn't agree more that if this is the kind of side we are then we should be trying to create as many contests as possible, force stoppage after stoppage and frustrate other backlines.

James Harmes is being wasted
I still can't get my head around not making a change and getting Harmes onto Bont, he was gashing us. Would it have definitely worked? Who knows, I'd just prefer to see a coach try some things rather than stand there next to his director of coaching looking like idiots.

Kozzy Rd 11 Rising Star Nomination
Kozzie will have these days early on, he's got all the tools but it will take a bit of time to put it all together. He's still a bit like watching someone in fast forward at the moment, and I'm sure that's how fast his mind is going as well. A bit more structure in his play and ways of working smarter around the contest should help with this. Confident he's on the right track.

Robert Muir
I had to read it in two sittings it was that full on.

Robert Muir
A very difficult but necessary read. Thank you Engorged Onion for bringing it to attention. I'll be reading a lot more of Russell Jackson's stuff after this. Absolutely tragic, I missed his era but saw plenty of footage and always got the impression the 'Mad Dog' name was a badge of honour for him. Hardly. I also vaguely remember the Footy Show spot and I knew there was something slap stick about it but still had lasting memories of Muir's 'outburst'. Turns out that show did him no favours. These are the stories I would like to hear more of, forget what the latest WAG is getting up to on their Hub trip. No-one should ever have to deal with what he went through. And I hope he eventually does come through with the book idea, might actually be the perfect thing.

CHANGES: Rd 14 vs St Kilda
Speed on the outside is critical against the saints and I'm starting to think the Baker idea could be worth thinking about. We seem to do a lot better when there is bit more run and carry as shown from Oliver recently, the quick hack kick and down the throat method isn't doing anything right now.

Tom McDonald
Reading is important, didn't say anything about his tackle count simply when he puts a tackle on they feel it. Was reaching for some kind of positive yes but by all means let's go back to kicking the guys head in and blaming him for a crap all round team effort.

One thing I'll say is that at least when T-mac tackles he tackles hard, wish I could say the same for some others.

The Need for Outside Midfielders
Ok so the issue I have with this throw away line (that the club liked to use early this season) is that Bennell gets dropped the moment he misses a tackle but someone like Melksham can just stand in the 50 and offer zero pressure and get his 1 cruddy tackle for the game and not come close to being dropped. It's just complete and total crap. If we're holding players to these 'defensive pressure' standards then this needs to be a team wide expectation.

The Need for Outside Midfielders
If we were a team that created more contests then that would make sense winning on contested ball alone. There's too many oxymorons about the way we play or how we say we want to play. If we want to be this contested beast team we should just be kicking long to contests and forcing stoppages rather than trying to be a play on team. If we want to be a 'lock the ball in the 50' team then we need to not have an abysmal record at forward 50 stoppages. I'm sure this is the moment where someone tells me our forward 50 stoppage scoring rate this year is not bad or some stat to refute my claims but just get off the grass. We offer nothing from them and we stink at them.

James Harmes is being wasted
There's no doubt he plays his best in the middle and he is clearly our best gut running mid when on song but why do the coaches need to take sole blame for this? I'm sorry but it's getting a bit trite having all these apparent AFL footballers who are playing the game when positions are most fluid who can only play in one position and can't even do a job in another. Yes I'd love to see him back in the middle and would like nothing more than to see it but this lack of flexibility with our players has become extremely frustrating.

POSTGAME: Rd 13 vs Western Bulldogs
Bang average effort from a bang average team. The running required is the standard not something you do when you feel like it. I can forgive skill errors bit not a lack of running, if you aren't willing to get cart your a*re off the ground from exhaustion at the end then go home. Outcoached, plain and simple. Dogs zone was setup well and was flexible and ours was stagnant. They switched and burned us every time. I don't want to hear numps like David King say how no-one wins a flag with plan B. No Einstein they don't but there is such thing as coaching and being able to adjust when a certain situation happens. And teams DO win a flag with that. No forward pressure today, drop in this area 5% and our gameplan just doesn't work. Their midfield absolutely pantsed ours. Our mids might as well have gone up to the goal umpires for their white flags, take a flag each and wave it at every centre bounce. T-mac seriously just, whatever. Our forwards served up the lamb shanks today. By the way I don't understand why taking shots 45 metres out on 45 degree angles is a smart idea in windy blustery conditions. Harmes is just terrible lately. Get nicked.
