  1. Having considered this issue for a while I am on the side of those who feel they were too young.

To be a captain at such an early age you have to be nearly a superstar on the ground first and have no issues about your own game, so that you can help and rally others. When you are not playing well or injured and very young, the task IMO is too much, as it was in this case.

I think both boys didn't play to their ability and Captaincy was one of the factors. That then affects the whole team.

    Very well put.

  2. You have reminded me of one of my footy captain coaches who had a habit of coming up to you in the communal club room showers after Thursday night training with an earnest look on his face to talk to you about the coming game and your selection only to realise he was also pissing on your leg! It was his idea of humour. I think he got most of the young blokes at least once. Same thing but I wasn't wearing a pocket at the time.

    Ewww! Gross!

  3. The glass is always full unless it's in a complete vacuum. It's more a matter of whether it is full of liquid.

LOL. Yes, but now they (whoever they are) are questioning if there is something in a vacuum too. I hope that is explained to me in my lifetime.

  4. I thought this time of year might be a good chance to look back at clichés we've used over the season.

    Some of my favorites:-

"I'm a glass 1/2 full person". (Navel gazer.)

".....taller players take longer to mature...." Sometimes preceeded with "We all know"

I think there's been an "...elephant in the room...". That's a real now expression. I'm just looking for places to use it.

My favourite " ...you have to give something to get something ...". I call that the loser's cliché.

What about ".. Moderators, please lock this ...". I've copped that a couple of times. To use something I think may become a more used cliché soon "I wear it as a badge of honour."

Of course the worst one I heard over the year was "[so & so] defeated Melbourne ..[some scores]"

    Yes, I'm bored.

  5. compare the players who Neeld bought in last year compared to who roos has bought in. Very very different

Every year we take some angle like picking up players to get their on-field experience despite the fact that they are now rejects. Or the year before rushing to get an in-experienced coach that Malthouse praised from a recently successful club. And every year I wonder whether that angle is what we will be damning in a year or 2.

  6. It must be October. The Dees supporters are talking again. ^_^

If I had the time I'd quote stuff that was said a year ago and the year before that. Nevertheless, I don't want to see us double our wins next year - I want to see us halve our losses.

  7. The article does not show more perception than the average Pies supporter on the street would have, which is a bit disappointing from a sports journo. However, it would be remiss of a club in our situation to not apply for a priority pick and I don't think he really gets that.

"Maybe Jackson was still dizzy with his incredible success in getting Roos' signature" - condescending p..k!

As I have metioned before, the real reason they don't want us getting a priority pick is they think we may get it right.
