hit a nerve there i see..... your post is however quite true. i live very near plc and regularly drive past on many sides. the building development there in the last few years is staggering and the sports and other facilities there are second to none. the size of the campus now rivals a university and there is still plenty of open ground left. the majority of students are now asian who undoubtedly are providing the funds for all the development. parents are buying up all the nearby real estate just to be close to the school. having deakin (in a similar development frenzy and clientele) just across the road adds to the attraction.

red, you know the vfl comp is run like a joke. look at the draw with all the byes, go to their web site (often wrong, misleading, not up to date etc). the old vfl (i.e. vfa) was better run with honorary staff. afl-victoria is full of paid professionals living the afl high life

you know afl/asada/wada/cas et al don't do themselves any favours by taking so long to make decisions, in some cases taking years it's just not good enough. they need some new mechanisms or powers. we seem to be going backwards in some (many) areas

Greater Western Sydney (a dynasty to rival the Hawks)

i don't mind in the least if gws win a flag this year or next. would be a pleasant change and good for the game in sydney what i don't want to see is a top 4 side raking in top 10 draft picks and getting top class academy picks for peanuts for the next 10 years the draft is supposed to be an equalisation mechanism, but there are now so many loopholes in it -

i think most clubs would be interested in hogan if he was genuinely interested in exploring the whole market so far, there is only a suggestion of a go-home, family-related interest -
it only had a little impact though, biffo

knowing the mrp, red, i wouldn't be bold enough to predict, other than to say any outcome is possible -
repeat after me, clint. "the mrp does not look at precedents, each case is evaluated on the best interests of the afl"

that's right. you only have to look at uk sport funded by the lottery to see what money and professional talent spotting with elite development academies can do. the uk success in recent olympics is ample evidence. -
one maybe, definitely not two. my pick if it came to it would be nds

so? that (an academy), was still an option not available to other clubs. yes, it was a good idea in principle to foster new talent in greenfield areas, but there are no limits on how many academy players these clubs can have first preference over. also, the academy geographical areas include non-greenfield areas like the riverina. -

if he went it would be for home reasons. that leaves a 2 club choice, so i can't see the "super high demand" as if he was on the total market. we are not in as strong a position as some think. that's not to say we couldn't do quite well if it came to that, but let's be realistic -
yes, we know that, but that only explains why they agreed to the formation of new franchises but what specifically in the way of actual concessions did they agree to. did they agree in all details to all the individual concessions granted or just more to in-principle concessions?
-
correct, and i still scratch my head over this not so much the principle of giving a decent kick start to the new franchises, but the sheer extent of the concessions. I do wonder exactly how much the clubs actually signed off on and how much the afl conned/threatened the clubs, but i guess we will never really know
