  1. No it was at the Junction Oval. I was on the wing when he hit his first Demon. Graham Wise was our ruckman who was a bit shorter than Carl. That same day Baldock in the mud did something I have never seen repeated. It was just in front of me. He ran to the boundary with two Demons behind him chasing the ball. He reached the ball near the boundary and slapped the ball into the ground, it bounced up to him, he then turned and baulked both Dees and ran into CHF where he bombed it into the goal square, where a saint marked it. It was breathtaking. Baldock was about 180cms and played CHF. A genius on the footy field. "It is 50 years since he burst on to the scene as a 17-year-old from East Brighton, making a breathtaking debut against Melbourne in the opening round of 1963. Amazingly, Ditterich had been to only one VFL game in his life - to watch his beloved Geelong play St Kilda at the same ground the previous year. "The thing I remember most about my first game was just running through the race and on to the field with the rest of the players," Ditterich said. "It was at the old St Kilda (Junction) Oval, a magnificent ground and the place was packed. And just the roar of the crowd. "I started off in the ruck. It's all about confidence. If you can get a couple of early tap-outs and a kick here and there, your confidence grows." Ditterich was best afield and the legend was born. "I was absolutely buggered after the game. The nervous tension drained all of the energy out of me and I was that tired that, about an hour after the game, I had to go and have a lie down on the carpet in (club secretary) Ian Drake's office."
  2. Would bring in Toumpas or Blease.
  3. Col Garland played for Casey reserves today.
  4. It is simple really. If we finish low on the ladder, no one behind us will nominate him. That makes him a 2nd rounder at best. If the recruiters think he can play AFL and is worth that pick, he is ours.
  5. Agree, you can take it to the bank. Mr. Reliable was a fantastic rookie pick. He is rarely beaten one on one.
  6. I watched Watts closely the last 3 weeks and he is incredibly soft. It is inarguable. However his skills are sublime and he creates when he has the ball. He will always be picked for those reasons. Roos has also smartly created another goal avenue for us. Watts plays as a mid and therefore his opponent is also a mid and usually much smaller. When the forwards lead out, Watts will occasionally drop in the hole and outmark his smaller opponent, as he did twice yesterday. It is working well and hard to stop, as you cant throw a tall defender to a running mid.
  7. ATM I would give Dunn our most improved player award. It's funny to reflect back a couple of years where several Demonlanders wanted Dunn and Jones out. In fact some wanted Dunn out at the end of last season. I reckon Dunn is currently second in the Bluey.
  8. He doesn't play and we win. Hmmmm!!!!!!!!
  9. Finally after 12 losses and we picked the right team to beat.
  10. If he can play good football though, he will be in the minority
  11. Salem was also ill pre season and didn't do all the work. It is therefore prudent to allow him to gain form and confidence, before throwing him to the wolves. I think it is fair to say all clubs make mistakes in drafting/trading. The problem with the MFC, is in recent years, at least up to Jason Taylor commencing, it appears we got hardly any right. To make matters worse 2 of those we did get right, in Clark and Jurrah, have now gone.
  12. The real tragedy for us is that Kelly wasn't the number 2 pick when we took JT and JT was this year's.
  13. Now we are getting belted over not taking Kelly. I suppose when Tyson retires next year from a mystery injury and Salem quits at the same time, wanting to prusue his life's dream of collecting native flowers in the amazon, we can agree. ATM I am still ok with the deal. My mail, as I have said, is that Salem will be special and I think Tyson has been very good so far and should get better, as the team does.
  14. New teeth would be good to eat those hard, double fried, banana fritters.
  15. We are not alone on this. For example Deledio was fine at training, then would miss one week, now misses another and yesterday he said he was now unsure of when he would return. Kreuzer had a similar story, starting with he was fine and ending with 12-14 weeks out and an operation. Clearly injuries are a very inexact science.
  16. Yes she was a great racehorse. Think she even ran in the Japan Cup. A New Zealand mare like Ethereal.
  17. Heading to 10000 replies and 200000 views first.
  18. Well if it is a price of $850k per year and on the other hand using that on other players and getting pick 2, I wouldn't be fighting too hard. PS. Don't mention Suarez and Frawley in the same breath. One is a champion of the world game and the other is not a champion of our domestic code.
  19. Not future tense, past tense. I have gone bananas.
  20. I agree with that completely. Both my children, a son and daughter, now adults, are fanatical Dees, like their parents. I also find the worst thing about our situation, is the look on their faces. I have now come to grips with our situation and am trying to not let it hurt me, but I can see it hurts them. As my son said to me recently, I just want to see us playing good football, it has been bad for so long. He goes to every game in Victoria and even to Geelong, which I swore off going to after 186. It is very hard to remain passionate about the Dees, but and here I go again, I can see a light at the end of the tunnel.
  21. Wow that looks inviting, with some banana sauce on top and washed down with a banana smoothie or banana thick shake.
