  1. I am a little embarrassed to raise this here as it originates on the other thread, but I won't post there, though I think it is an interesting point. Robbie F raised the issue that if you know who doesn't sign with GWS this year, then GWS, as they have offered him a contract can't take another uncontracted player this year.He said that if we signed up everyone we wanted to keep while you know who is deciding whether to leave, they couldn't make an offer to anyone else, until the decision was made. If we secure our boys then no one is available to them to grab this year. I don't think that is correct. I don't think they are limited in how many offers they can make, but only in how many they can actually take under this uncontracted player poaching rule. They are limited to getting 1 player but I don't know of any limit on offers that can be made. What Robbie is saying is that if we sign up everyone we want to keep and then you know who stays, we will not lose anyone to them that we want to retain and that the club may be using the next few weeks to do this. Can someone clarify this.
  2. It was, but if you lose 2 players , like the Crows, did, you are then short 1 player. The rule helps clubs that lose 1 player as only 21 players on rotation are available to play.
  3. Bit unfair. Before Johncock got injured they were 6 goals up and he was their best player. Then they lost another player and played 1 short. You can't win playing short these days.
  4. Can't believe it, we are 172 posts ahead of the new TS thread. That should last about 30 minutes.
  5. Our favourite female TV reporter on 10 news said that Aussie wasn't returning to Melbourne this year and wanted to play for a local Darwin team, the Thunder, next year. He will be delisted if that happens.
  6. Disappointing night for us, Aussie appears to have ended his AFL career and the Bombers come from 6 goals down to win, after Johncock who was starring, went off, Then the Crows lost another player and played one short for the rest of the game.
  7. Noble Game at 12.45. Probably a bit short this one at 2000m but will run again at Caulfield on 30th over 2400m and that will be his day.
  8. My life feels so empty now. Are there any racehorses in the Harry Potter stories. Actually mine won at Geelong today and have another racing at Caulfield tomorrow.
  9. Went for a walk this morning and it was foggy and cold and I was freezing. By the time I was coming back home the sun was out and I was boiling. You have got to love that Melbourne weather, it's so much nicer than the weather they have in Blacktown.
  10. More news in Harry Potter land. The education department has now said that Harry can't receive the gifts even though another school is giving their star pupil the same sort of gifts. Even someone outside the school is banned from giving him the gifts. Latest news is that a headmaster at another school is being replaced by his deputy headmaster but he still wants to be headmaster and may change schools. The president of his school council is running around trying to stir up trouble with all of the other schools so that people don't concentrate on his school. The education department is really stuffing up the education system.
  11. Don't want to shock anyone but I haven't seen a Harry Potter movie or read one of the books. Tonight I taped two HP movies on foxtel but note that they are pretty recent. Will I ruin it if I watch the later movies without seeing the earlier ones? PS. I believe that in one of the books, Harry is made a huge offer by a new school to enrol with them and leave his schoolmates of the last 2 years. No one knows if Harry will leave as he said he will leave it until the end of the school year to decide. His current school has made an offer to keep him, which includes a new desk and bigger food serves in the school tuck shop, but that is way below the offer made by the new school, which includes a chauffeur driven ride to school each day and an exemption from Maths and Physics for the whole year. Apparently the education department is doing everything they can to get Harry to move and it is really pissing off his schoolmates. They have started a blog and are up to 60 pages of posts. The suspense is driving everyone mad. Some people think they know what he is doing while others are insisting they don't. Even the local paper, radio and TV have got in on the act. Can't wait until we find out at the end of the book. PPS. Apparently the new school is in a crap neighbourhood where no one would know Harry and it is far from his family. Now the education department has said they will compensate Harry's old school if he goes with a new library book but the school will no doubt want at least 2 books.
  12. Not sure but I think I started getting bored at about 8-10 episodes and stopped watching. Hopefully you will hang in there longer.
  13. Why thank you. I aim to please.
  14. Yes, now 1524.
  15. We are 1525 posts behind the TS thread. I am getting concerned we won't catch up.
  16. Just a hunch. Depends of course if he is fit. He is a Darwin boy. He can play as a sub and then, when on, play forward which won't require much running, but he could be dangerous around goals. He may give LJ a lift. Playing at Casey in these conditions may not help him and if he plays poorly, does he miss 3 more games as Casey then has a bye and he would need at least a good Casey game if he plays with them. He is a leader and can do some leading by being with the group and part of the team. He will have many people at the ground supporting him and he may lift for the occasion, given he played poorly in the indigenous round. Lastly the Coach hinted that he might play.
  17. Think Davey is a big chance to be our sub in "Brutus the Crocodile" land. We need to warn the players to be aware of midges and put the repellant on.
  18. You have won already, the right to post on this thread.
  19. Think I should have used the bye better and watched some Harry Potter movies. Haven't seen one or read the books. Is there a pointy nosed, redheaded female, who is economical with the truth in them?
  20. I'm finding one of those redheads particularly taxing at the moment.
  21. Any news on any other threads? Must be a quiet news day.
  22. Enjoyed the first few episodes and then I found it started to drag and get boring. Let us know if you have a different view after say 7-8 episodes.
  23. If he is fit and over the injury, why not play him as the sub. That way he gets some game time and can probably play as our small forward, a position we are not covering. Then he wouldn't need a lot of game time yet could still add to our forward line. Don't know what good it would serve him running around Casey if conditions are like they were on sunday. Then does he miss another week or do you play him in the senior team even if he hasn't played well because of the Casey bye. Normally I would say come through the VFL, but the game being in Darwin and with the indigenous factor it might be the best option if he was the sub.
  24. Mentioned today that Flash may play against Port in Darwin. Could he be the sub to ease him back?
  25. Spoke to Jack Viney at Casey on sunday and discussed a few of his team mates at Vic Metro. He is not tall but is strongly built like his father. Can still grow a couple of inches I would think. He is a nice boy and looking forward to his AFL career with Melbourne. I hope it is a very good one. Was very impressed with Max Gawn in conditions that couldn't have been worse for him. His mobility is fantastic. He could be a very good player for us.
