  1. Jarka, I dont think for a minute Redleg is suggesting that those doing it tough should go beyond their means for the cause and im pretty sure the 'average Aussie' hasnt asked you to be their mouth piece. Everyones individual situation is different and whilst the economy has recently slowed (in some areas dramatically) many have prospered greatly over the last few years and are experiencing some of the highest living standards in the world. Dandeeman for example has been in a position to buy first membership THIS YEAR. This is despite your doomsday paradigm. Clearly, not everyone can do all of those things Redleg has suggested, many probably cant do any, all I think Redleg is saying is for those that have the means to help to do so, nothing more. If times are as tough as you are suggesting then the club will need its supporters now more than ever and I know that when times are tough for me personally, nothing lifts my spirits more than a stirring demons victory. Perhaps our need for eachother will be at its greatest. Keep up the passion Redleg!!!
  2. If I can get back on to Jurrah the footballer for a moment my mate that played with him at Nightcliff also said that in one passage of play he was in the forward line with the ball coming in. There is a pack which he was at the back of. From a standing start he ended up on an opponents back to take a hanger. Must have some vertical leap....
  3. Great post from The Fork! Given his apparent position on this, I can only assume that Rhino is speaking without any significant knowledge or experience in the particular needs of indigenous people within the workplace. He may elaborate on his comments and perhaps they are being misunderstood but the MFC maintaining a one size fits all approach to their players would be antiquated and naive. Saying a player may have particular needs is in no way a connotation that they have any "side issues". We dont have bucket loads of money, that is true, but it would be foolish not to invest appropriately into our resources and ensure we maximise our return. You only have to look at the efforts many clubs are putting into providing appropriate environments and support structures to Irish recruits to realise that this is not something particular to Indigenous players but sound HR policy.
  4. I'm from Darwin. Unfortunately, I haven't been around the AFLNT scene for the last couple of years but I have plenty of mates who are. One of my mates played with him for Nightcliff and had nothing but praise for him mentioning all of those things that are being reported of him...freakish athletic ability, big kick etc. He related him in some ways to Adrian McAdam. Let's hope he sticks around for a bit longer than him though. I have also heard of a very positive report of him from a senior AFLNT person involved with many indigenous players. He said Jurrah is a really good pick up for us and I take his opinion with some authority. There are some risks with this guy, as there are with all individuals and in particular interstate recruits so let's not count our chickens before they have hatched and claim him to be the next masire. But he does give some reason for excitment and I am looking forward to seeing him in the red and blue!
  5. I saw a quick 15 second grab of him playing for the Nightcliff Tigers kicking some goals on the local (Darwin) news tonight. Looks quite good, moves well and looks very balanced. Given I only saw 15 seconds thats prob all I can say but I am kind of excited.
  6. not working for me...
  7. Would have thought Alpha would be all over this by now
  8. Assuming they are fit... Whelan Martin Garland Green Rivers Bruce Morton McLean Buckley Sylvia Miller Bate Davey Newton Robbo PJ Dunn Moloney Jamar Jones Petterd J Mac emrg Warnock, Grimes, Maric If all are fit this is how I would line them up. Many dont have Dunn in the side but I recon he may get a go on the ball to mind Harvey. Unless there are some stand outs in the NAB cup I cant see any of the draftees playing round 1. They will get a go as the year progresses
  9. Well that settles that one.... http://www.melbournefc.com.au/tabid/7415/D...px?newsid=70527

  11. I have to say this is the one im least excited about... Doesnt seem as clean as the others but then he was a latter pick.
  12. Watt 4....Jack Watts kicks 4 goals on debut. Whelan em in...Mathew Whelan to mentor new Indigenous talent. If it aint Brock, dont fix it...Demons to decide to continue a rotating capitan or to name McLean the sole leader. Blease feed me...New recriut Sam Blease ordered to eat up and put on some weight over the pre-season. Speed Demons...Melbourne significanlty bolsted its speed stocks in the 2008 National Draft Suppose I do....Casey Sibosado admits he needs to work hard to impress the Demons on the track if he is to be picked up by them in the preseason draft.
  13. There were obviously reasons why no team called out his name. Though I wouldnt mind him training with us till the PSD so we can have a good look at him.
  14. He may ask for it...but I recon Jack might give him Watt 4...
  15. Hes no buddy...doesnt appear to have his pace....but on the footage below looks a Michael O' type... http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=e630UcTE5fE Would not mind him at all and am surprised he was not picked up...hope the Dees get him down to train with us prior to the PSD. http://www.ntnews.com.au/article/2008/05/1...13_ntsport.html

  17. http://bigpondvideo.com/afl/90216 Good pace, clean hands and looks to use the ball well...
  18. You read my mind.......
  19. They were my first thoughts.....
  20. A good mate of mine is the runner for Claremont in the WAFL (played for them until he injured his neck). He says that Nat is the one to go for over Rich...he said dont worry about his football ability the boy can play...
  21. The Watts/Riewoldt comparison seems fair on many levels, both athletic and can take a grab. Part of what makes Riewoldt so good is that he is an aerobic freak and can work his opponents into the ground. We have heard Watts is great over the 20m so he will do well on the lead but what about his abilty to work around the ground and use his motor to his advantage? Any comparison to Riewoldt should consider this. The good key forwards can also play well up the ground such as Riewoldt, Pav Brown...It was heartening to hear he played well on the ball a few weeks back in the TAC. Does anyone know what he does on the beep test? Or will we have to wait till the draft camp?
  22. At the start of the year I would have thought trading CJ would be on the cards. But this year he has shown what some of us knew he could do. We are light on for backman who can use the ball well to set up play which is becoming more important in the modern game. With Whelan and Wheatly aging and Bartram and Bell not good users of the ball CJ would be a required player I would have thought. I would throw in Bartram before CJ. JL, its interesting you should throw up Frawleys name. With the emergence of Martin, Warnock, Garland and Rivers to return from injury, he is one I was wondering about. Being pick 12 with a couple of years of development in him (still only 19) I wonder what he would be worth. I would rather trade him for a pick than a player. You would think first round surely.... One player I would like to see at the Dees is McKinley....I would trade Frawley and pick 35 for him, though I doubt it will happen....
  23. Sitting at almost 2.7 now ($2695428). 3m by the end of the month will be very close!!! I find it hard to believe those being critical of the Stynes lead board in light of the excelent work being done. They have stood up for this club when it needed new energy and ideas and are making inroads I dont think the other board (no disrespect) without this new invigoration.
  24. Anyone know the score?
  25. The question is what would he cost? With a few clubs interested he wont come cheap. I agree though he would be handy.
