Lets not forget that we had to TRADE for White, giving up pick 2 and 20 (or something like that). This can happen to any club at any time and we paid a fair price to get him. We will be unlikely to get that kind of return for a fresh faced number 1 pick. Laughable that the editor had to come out justify why such an article was written. Justifying its intent is one thing, but failing to address the numerous flaws it contained does him no favours.

What compensation will we get?

After all the hype I was expecting more...very average. Still they are very lucky to be in a position where they can produce such an add to promote their club.

Age have reported he might miss...also that Morton could be out for 2 months

Last I remember there were changes in regard to B&F and its impact in the formula given it was open to club manipulation and or other factors and a greater importance placed on what GC/GWS is offering as that is a better indication of his market value... Not sure though...
-
What is the formula?
-
That may be the case...it also may not be...there are a number of factors...B&F finish I think is one...but pick in the draft they were taken at...how much they will be paid at their next club is another...and the reported figures alnone may be enough to get us to the top tier... Not saying I know...or agree we should play him at Casey...but not sure what you are saying is fact...

I think at the end of the year when the season has finished and the player is out of contract to have a few nervous weeks where a player may be exploring his options is fine...such as we have had from time with Green, Bruce, Yze etc. But having the situation where a player may have already signed with another team whilst in contract and having this drag out the year is not good...the Ablett situation was a terrible distraction for the Cats and the game more boradly... I can accept that this may just be part of the maturing of our game, but its not part of the culture that makes this game great...and I dont particularly like it...

Signed or not the point is they are approaching and talking to a contracted player...previously this did not happen until the loop hole was exposed by GC...and it seems it remains...
-
What I dont get is that last year it was discovered that there was a loop hole in the rules that allowed GC to talk to and sign contracted players...we knew this last year...why was this not fixed so we are not now going through the Ablett situation all over again???

One of those rare players that even opposition supporters love...I mean I hate Richmond, but I do love the cont!!!

Well Sylvia was supposed to be the next Riccuito... Anyone know what he's paying for a place? -
Can anyone smell the irony here?

Anyone got a copy of that game or some YouTube highlights?

This has more to do with the clubs importance than our own. It's fine that he left, I think it's better for both parties and I have wished him well. How it's played out is where the disappontment lies. Which past players are you refering to and how was their treatment not great?
-
Ok so previously I had wished him well, and I guess I still do. But this stinks. So he knew he wanted out during the season yet doesn't actually walk out till after the trade period is over forgoing any chance we have to get something for him. Of cousre the hawks encouraged protracted negotiations. Though they spin it that they wanted Bruce and the MFC to work it out. He is clearly a more attractive option if he comes to them for free via the PSD. it would not be unreasonable to presume that the contract with trigger points would only be available to CB if he came through the PSD and not if the hawks had to trade for him. At least when McLean felt his opportunities were better elsewhere and left he made sure the club got something for him. It seems CB has looked after CB, which he is entitled to do, but to suggest the club sacked him or treated him with contempt is laughable. He was offered a solid contract for 1 year on good money after being one of the highest paid players in the league despite not performing like in that echelon. If anyone has been let down here it's not CB

The thing is Bobby it's not all about 2011. and I don't doubt that he will be capable of good footy in 2011 and it seems neith does the club, offering him a contract next year on good money. 2012 is another propersition however and a question best considered at the end of 2011. He wanted more security and we didn't want to commit ourselves to soething that could compromise the building of our preimeriship team, it's not that hard to digest.

Just like John Anthony. How could the pies let him go, they should have given him more to stay. Lockyer and o'Bree were good servants of the club they deserved more games last year and a big contract next year... Medhurst had good form in the VFL they should have played him more...

Your unreal! GWS is an issue for all clubs. We are suceptible but none moreso than other clubs. In fact we may be better placed to repel raids due to the room in our cap. And of course you do know frawley signed on for 4 years.

No, you may be missing the point. Yes it's a business...but you are only looking at it from the players prspective. The club also looks at it as a business and their core business is to win flags. Part of that is to develop and focus on the players that will achieve this goal. I think you will find the club will do all we can to keep those that are part of our priemiership plan. Unfortunalty I don't the club and or Bruce thought he was part of that (or at least that was a year to year proposition ) and hence they parted ways. I don't blame him for leaving and can understand why he left. I hope he finds what he is looking for at the Hawks. But I also understand why the club didn't offer him more. We offered him 1 year on good money as that is what he was worth to us. The simple fact of the matter is that at 31 Bruce may not have been part of our bigger picture and quire frankly is not worth 2 years. If he was he would have got that on the open market, he didn't. And like any good business we didn't more for something than it is worth to us. You also brought up white, robbo, yze. The same thing applies, if they were still viewed as capable at the top level after they were cut by us they also would have got contracts, they didn't. The club is well aware it is a business, and the threats that exist which is why we are employing smart business tactics such as pre paying contracts and creating a surplus in our cap to guard against advances from other clubs and compete with them on business terms. The club is making some very astute business decisions. Decisions that directly align with it's goal...to win a flag.

The good thing is if he and Jamar are both in the side it gives us some good flexibility as he can go back and Jamar can go forward. Quite smart.

Do you think we should have left this pick till March?
